Both the Slim and regular PS3 are 2 different types of hardware, so this is not really surprising.

Despite the headline, Batman Arkham Asylum actually loaded FASTER on the PS3 Slim, so there's really no telling of the PS3 Slim is "slower" but a few seconds of loading difference is nothing to complain about because both the old and Slim PS3 play games and other media exactly the same.

I would rather have it slow down in videos than slow down in games. It's actually faster in games, which would be more important to me. It's a misleading title on the website, but not 100% false. Just 50%.

Like some people already noticed, the title of the topic is misleading because the Slim is faster for gaming but slower for movies. And we are only talking about loading in the menu of course, not lag...

So they removed it from the slim. Update 3.00 will remove it from the older PS3s.

since the hardware spec are still the same, I would assume that this is a software issue, since the slim support Dolby True HD and DTS HD through bit stream, which is a need feature might have cause some of the issue. Notice in the video the Batman on slim load faster, this most likely because of the faster HDD, because higher capacity drive has a bit higher seek speed.

Even if the Hardware was the same a one to two second difference could still be found. What a waste of time.

How could it be slower? A slower drive would completely break the capatibility with older titles aka Sony can't use a slower drive. If anything, it's a placebo effect from the removal of the "playstation 3" boot screen removal.

The Slim's probably running a different firmware.

I for one wouldn't accept Youtube videos as proof of anything.

Having said that, it was reported somewhere that Sony actually had to go with a slightly cheaper Blu-ray drive to reduce costs, which would explain slower load times on dvds/Blu-ray disks.

I would imagine that all of those mandatory installs would level the playing field, or better where some games are concerned, allowing the slim to have an edge when the data is loaded from the hard drive instead of the disc. Maybe that could explain the slim doing better with Arkham Asylum?

PS3 Slim is much faster but put next to the old BC PS3's, well they get one thing over the Slim and that is the 7,200RPM in the HDD. The lunch models came with 7,200RPM, kind of the reason why it overheated the most and why that is the only PS3 model that even comes close to starting a fire.

I own the new 80GB model that isn't BC an it loads games an all slower then the older models, my friend ask me why it took so long to do MGS4 and that is because it wasn't doing 7,200RPM. But as for now I'm packing over 500GB/475GB count FW in my PS3 an it runs alittle bit more faster but not close to 7,200RPM and its just the stander RPM that the PS3 runs.

another factor regarding start up (which has prob been mentioned but i'm not searching through fanboy comments) is that the slim has fm 3.0 installed. i wonder if when the 80GB has 3.0 installed it takes the same time... cus it wouldn't surprise me if it took longer to load with the new features (and it has a slightly different start up screen)

my point is, it's not the same start up cus it's diff firmware. not the best comparison but it would be like having 2 same spec pc's, 1 running vista, another running xp. I wouldn't expect them to load in exactly the same time. Diff OS in this case but u get my point

It will never get slower than the loading screen that I encountered on my Xbox360. I hope they made a mandatory installation so that I don't have to face such problems, but then again I got no hard disk, yet another problem arise, it's getting frustrating.

Nothing unusual, the console is just as fast with some slight differences in OS Setup which will sometimes be for the better and sometimes be for the worse with games and movies, but nothing that's really noticable when you're not holding them next to each other.

I could build 2 PC's with the same parts to the same spec and there'd be a difference in boot time and launching applications. The difference wouldn't be much though.

Batman loaded faster on the slim. Tbh first and foremost my PlayStation is a games console and then i use my Blu-ray i don't give a flying f**k how quick it gets to the start screen on a movie a second more to get comfortable and watch blu-ray whoop whoop. These tests are f**king stupid. The slim is value for money it will do the same stuff as the older system and by the seems of it. The main thing playing games is that bit faster.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.
