No matter whay you guys think rumble is important, if it wasnt, then ps1 wouldnt have included it, and they wouldnt have included it in the ds2, even though you say you wont miss it, when you finally do play with the ps3 controller you will notice a difference.

Rumble feature to me is not needed but definetly an added bonus, on the other hand I am happy that we now have a different way to use the controller, it's about time these console companines tried to give us something new. I don't know if I will miss the rumble til I get my PS3 but if motion sensors lives up to it's potential then rumble could become an afterthought. Only time will tell

Sony decided to not go with it, which I think is a mistake. But I find it wierd that Immersion would be pushing an informal poll to try and egg Sony on. It's a done deal, Immersion. Pray that you get your royalties from the lawsuit.

Immersion sounds like a baby about the situation trying to poll people. Here are the questions:

1)I would definitely not purchase a PS3 without rumble.

2)I would be more likely to purchase an Xbox 360 with rumble.

3)I would be more likely to purchase a Wii with rumble.

4)I would buy a PS3 anyway, but I'd be disappointed [and] It would not affect my decision at all.

Why would they think everybody will be disappointed they need to get a grip and move on. I buy systems if the games are good not because of rumble. Is having rumble in the controller a good thing? Yes. But I could live without it.

Sony messed up big when they decided to not to have rumble in the ps3 controller. I agree with paul that sonys fuk ups along with this could be the last straw on whether or not to get a ps3.

No rumble is a huge loss, saying any different would be lieing. It's simply not next-gen if the video world can't cross over into the physical world. You Sony fanboys are liers. How do you want to play a FPS and have to know you're getting hit? You're feeling it with rumble. Without rumble you've to make the screen flash red?

Rumble is good in FPS games but I could live without it. Its just an extra to me. I would give it up anyday for tilt sensors.

When you hear a gunshot and it hits you, the screen and character both shake and you might see blood. When you hear a gunshot and it doesn't hit you then you just hear it. Rumble would be good to have but its okay if the PS3 doesn't have it, in other words I can live without it.

Every one knows that rumble isn't necessary. But not having it does suck. I turned my vibration off on my 360 just to see how would it be for ps3 users. But the truth is i had alot of fun with graw with it off. But that was a choice, see not having it at all. Is really a step backwards. All this blu fish technology and all that with no rumble, its just weird. But not the end of the world.

I'm sorry gametime but that tilt controller sh!t is G@Y as hell and has nothing to do with Sony it's stupid and like i said if it was for 360 and DEV's did'nt give you an option to turn it off i personally would toss the console. Um...the tilt and the Nintendo Wii are far different in how their played, the Wii is kinda cool...I personally think the tilt would make your wrists tired after a while...and the wii probably too...I just think the wii's aspects of jabbing and slashing and how their into the gameplay is cool, the tilt is just moving the controller around, think about it on day one are you going to be playing warhawk and moving around your living room and not feel like a dork if your wife, mom, dad, sister, roommate whatever walks in? Wii is a party and family console and is differernt than PS3 so i agree with you, Wii is a complete interactive console.

you know when your getting shot in a game like say halo or killzone, those red dash things come up and shows you the direction its coming from, that tell you ur getting hit or you could just look at your health, is everybody retarded when it comes to games damn. whats so wrong with bring something new to the table then just having rumble for 15 years and running, so thats how youll now your getting hit with out the rumble just look at the damn screen hmmmmmmmm thats to hard i guess, sony copied that as well didnt they, idiots bringing your trash in here

FPS's shines the most on PC's and they don't use the rumble feature. I mean how dumb would it be if your mouse was vibrating?

Has anyone here actually tried tilt or the wii's controller yet? I don't understand how someone can come to an conclusion about how something sucks without ever even trying it? I'm not saying rumble isn't good, I personally think rumble is great, but things get old. Motion sensors bring us a new aspect to gaming and is something I am very excited to try out.

All this talk about "how will you know when your shot" is ignorant. PC players have gone without rumble and if you really "need" rumble to know when your being hit then your using rumble as a crutch. Lets not make rumble into something it is not gamers. Yes it's a nice feature but it's about time we gamers have got something new to utilize.

Dude, it was an extra feature, really fun to have, but it wasn't necessary. And ok, the Wii controller is impressive, but Sony isn't Nintendo. They ain't that innovated. The Wii is all about the controller so that was more worked on, Xbox360 was more of the Live, and no body hasn't given a duck's ass to what the PS3 is all about except for the Blu-Ray which is a crapshoot.

on one hand, they can just eat the cost of the lawsuit and then pay Immersion again for the rumble license. while on the other hand, is it worth it all just for that rumble vibration ability? they're already in deep debt. oh and Immersion's logo is hand(what a coincidence) so which decision hand to take. hmmm...

Immersion is polling to try to get sony to see the importance of rumble and they are trying to get sony to pay up instead of taking the easy way out of the situation if somebody owed me over 90 million dollars id be on their ass about it too

Sony caught lying again, and refusing to admit they were wrong (Again!) When Immersion sued Microsoft, they looked at things, realized they were wrong, settled with Immersion and bought stock in their company. Sony, on the other hand, refuses to admit they did anything wrong even though they lost the court case with Immersion, and instead add some jacked-up tilt feature to the PS3 and leave rumble out. All of a sudden, it is "unnecessary" and "won't work with the tilt functionality." BULLSH!T. Sony knows it will eventually lose its appeals against Immersion, and is only playing for time. When they eventually play out these appeals, it is a distinct possibility that they will have to pull the PS2, all dual-shock controllers, and most games that use rumble from the shelves as part of the judgement against them. Does Sony care? NO. By then they hope to have the PS3 on the market, and this will only help them sell more $50- $60 dollar wireless controllers and more $60- $70 dollar PS3 games, since PS2 controllers won't work with the PS3 AT ALL, and gamers who missed some good PS2 games won't be able to add them to their backwards-compatible collection. The funny thing is that Immersion realizes that with no rumble in PS3, or any PS3 games, they will lose a LOT of licensing money. They have tried to negotiate a deal with Sony, even developing ON THEIR OWN technology that allows tilt and rumble in the same controller, and offered to show Sony how it is done. A deal with Immersion would be the best possible scenario for Sony AND gamers, who could then have tilt AND rumble. Sony, however, who will never admit to wrong-doing, would rather screw gamers and, in the long run, screw themselves. THEY could have polled gamers and asked what they would rather have, but Sony's way is to TELL consumers what they want, instead.

You idiots don't know anything, tilt controllers are not new, microsoft created on in the 90's the sidewinder something or other, you can go on ebay right NOW and purchase one that will work on a playstation 2, from an after-market vendor.

I would definatly chose rumble over tilt any day. Without rumble your hands dont shake when you fire a gun or shake when you get punched in the face. Explosions in games mean nothing without physically feeling something. No rumble means boring and unfulfilling games. Dont get me wrong i would like tilt too. I would love to see them both on the ps3 pad because that would just be awesome and i know sony can do it they are just being sissys and avoiding immersion. But if i had to chose one or the other. I personally will apologize for the "how will you know when your getting shot" comments but while rumble is not entirely neccessary for gaming, it's the biggest part, running around in a war game and having it shake in your hands by gun shots, bombs, ETC. is not the same game without rumble no matter which way you slice it, it adds to making you a part of the game. So while it's not entirely necessary, neither is the Blu-ray, Wi-fi, and bluetooth controllers, so this is one thing Sony should have implemented.

Well, I am not a MS or Sony fan, I am a gamer. I love my 360 and I can't wait for my PS3. But I do know that for me rumble is very important. When an enemy is close or you get hit with a zinger that you did not expect .... the rumble helps make you "WAKE UP" and say "CRAP .. where did that come from"

I really hope Sony get the rumble back into the controller. Just something about chopping down your enemies with a chain-gun and feeling that controller rumble away.

Once again we have gamers using the rumble featue as some sort of crutch for FPS. PC gamers do not have rumble and you don't see them crying about it. Rumble has been a good feature but that technology is 10 years old people..... I personally give props to Sony and Nintendo for making the tilt feature real and giving us a truly Next-Gen controller. I think it's due time that controllers have been upgraded with new technology and not just repackaged/reshaped PSone/PS2 controllers. Rumble has had it's time and now because Sony (for whatever reason) hasn't included it people are overhyping this feature into something it can never be. Rumble is a game enhancing feature and tilt sensors are a game changing feature. That's my 2 cents

As for the Wii and the PS3 motion stuff, I am not super hyped about flipping around my controller to play a game.

Game + swinging my arms around for 2 hours = No So Good.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
