Quantic Dream's David Cage has defended the scene in Heavy Rain in which player-character Madison Paige strips for a nightclub owner, arguing that during its E3 showing it succeeded in its goal of making the player "uncomfortable".

Whoop-de-do!!

Don't stifle the mans vision. This is a game for adults. I'm sure we can handle it.

creeping judas6092d ago

I mean the game is not targeted at young people. This is going to be one the 1st real games for adults for a console (IMO). And most of us that are adults are able to handle a lit bit this type of game play. I mean if it advances the story and has a reason for being in the game, then let it be.

Like what if the strip club owner has some information that Madisson requires in order to find what she is looking for. And the only way the strip club owner will give it to her is if she dances for him. Thus creating a moral dilema for Madisson. If she doesn't dance then she doesnt get the info she needs, or if she dances (which she obvioulsy doesnt want to do) she gets the info.

Hell yeah, bring it on!!!!!! Cant wait.

jmare6092d ago (Edited 6092d ago )

In the game the player has the choice to have her strip completely. At least that is what has been implied if not explicitly said when the scene was shown.

@ DEEZNUTS: The reason people are getting upset is because you will be able to strip her down completely. They just havent shown footage of it yet.

EDIT 2: "Asked whether videogames perhaps have to learn to walk before they can run when it comes to difficult adult events, particularly given the potential for the situation the scene describes to become sexually violent, Cage said that he would not censor himself in order to avoid controversy."

Notice that they acknowledge the scene has potential to become sexually violent.

SupaPlaya6092d ago

I think it adds to the realism. I mean if I was the nightclub owner in the storyline I'd ask her to strip for me too.

Lfmesquite6092d ago

I hope there's a shower scene.

deeznuts6092d ago

What is wrong with our society that a man has to defend a strip scene. A non-nude, video game strip scene.

This is some bullshiz!

Lightsaber6092d ago

"succeeded in its goal of making the player uncomfortable".

I find that funny cause I seriously doubt it was there goal. More likely they never gave it any thought or they are just pervs. Who cares

Carl14126092d ago

Yeah, they obviously didn't put any thought into whether a woman would be uncomfortable doing a striptease in order to get information on a murderer.

Obviously.

Blaze9296092d ago

who the hell is even attacking?

Raz6092d ago

"..if you intend to do an adult experience for a mature audience, then there's nothing you can't do, and you should certainly not count on me to censor myself, and say I can't do this or don't want to do that because it's too sensitive or too controversial or whatever.

"I do whatever it takes to tell my story, and I hope people will enjoy it, but I'm not playing safe things here, I'm trying things, I'm exploring new ground, and I hope people will appreciate that."

This man is brilliant. I'm buying this game based solely on the above quote. It's about time video games grew up - they should get the same creative freedom that movies have.

It's not like she's naked and doing something blatantly sexual..

Godmars2906092d ago (Edited 6092d ago )

Isn't it suppose to lead up to a rape? You trying to figure how to get the character out of the situation she's in before it goes any further because she doesn't want it to?

Not that I'm not looking forward to dealing with that level of drama in game, hope it is handled well, but still.

SupaPlaya6092d ago

I don't see how that is a problem other than for censorship's sake.

54percent6092d ago

Oh..... what are they thinking? I can't have boobs on my ninja gaiden 2 but the PS3 users can have strip chicks?

what a world.. what a world...

Please stop comparing video games to movies

"Many video games catch not only great commercial attention but remarkable critical attention as well. We have seen games like Heavy Rain, The Last of Us Part II, and even entries in the Metal Gear series described as fantastic interactive experiences, even heralded in the same way as Hollywood's greatest films.

I would suggest that not only is this an unfair comparison but also a harmful one. Video games, by their very nature, are an intricately different medium and should be weighed against one another rather than another form of media," Phillip writes for GF365.

Yes, please stop. They're better than most hollywood drivel nowadays.

BLAKHOODe1994d ago

I think Hollywood films will becoming increasingly more like video games in the future, especially as the world embraces the "new normal" from the pandemic. It makes sense, as games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales showcase just how realistically we're reaching in graphical capabilities, as well as showcase extreme action sequences in spectacular ways. And as time goes by, it'll get easier and cheaper to produce such "art", as well as create new star "actors" that never age, never die, never complain, never gets involved in scandals, etc. Technology is amazing and we're only just getting a taste of what it'll eventually be.

sourOG1994d ago

No. Some games are like movies.

medman1994d ago (Edited 1994d ago )

No. For the money spent, a quality game provides far more entertainment value than a quality movie. Especially when looking at what is going on in the world, and how a studio can attempt to pilfer from consumers by charging 30 dollars for Mulan via streaming. Ridiculous. There is no comparison....games all day.
