BioWare doesn't deny PS3 Mass Effect

CVG writes: "BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka refused to rule out the possibility of a PS3 version of Mass Effect during an interview with CVG at Gamescom last week even though we kept pecking.

When quizzed on why the developer chose not to bring the series to PS3, Muzyka said: 'I think a more accurate way to frame it is to say we've announced we're developing Mass Effect for 360 and PC. Right from the beginning we said we wanted to deliver Mass Effect on the 360. Right now all we've announced is we're working on 360 and PC.'"

This is why I keep thinking it will be coming to PS3 (maybe timed exclusive?), because they never deny it, they just fail to mention it every time. Doesn't really matter to me because i have a high-end PC and a 360 as well, but would be good for PS3 only owners to experience this game.

Sarcasm6087d ago

IMO it's worth it. PS3 owners should be happy if it does. It's like if Uncharted went to the 360 (not saying it will, but they should be happy too)

StanLee6087d ago

We're almost 2 years removed from Mass Effect on the XBox 360. I would think a port would have already been announced if it was going to happen. Even if Mass Effect 2 was a timed exclusive that would make no sense. Why would PS3 owners wait 6 months or a year for the sequel to a game not on the console? What incentive would there be for the install base to embrace the game?

Dread6087d ago (Edited 6087d ago )

well, if true, then congrats to the "true gamers" in the Sony camp, i know that they will enjoy this game. (the sony fantards that pollute N4G can get stuffed though)

The Wood6087d ago (Edited 6087d ago )

lol +1 for honesty

and if it does come to the ps3, ill give it a try maybe they'll even give it the 'sigma' treatment

andron6087d ago

A deluxe edition with the whole trilogy on Blu-Ray would be sweet...

morganfell6087d ago

The reason they are waiting Stan is in order to finish DA and ME2. Then they will release ME 1 and 2 for the PS3.

ChozenWoan6087d ago

I've played a little bit of it on my friend 360, it truly is a great game. The setting, story, char developement. ME truely is a grand jewel in the 360 lineup. Almost makes me want a 360 just for it... almost.

LONEWOLF2316087d ago (Edited 6087d ago )

I guess they have all their man power working on ME2 thus is the reason WHY there is no PS3 ME BUT im sure news on it will hit once ME2 is out the window! It would be freaking awesome if ME for the PS3 would run on the ME2 engine. Id buy it in a heart beat!

6087d ago
Unicron6087d ago

Yes Dread, because EVERY PS3 owner has a PC.

I got ME1 on PC. It's great. Conversations rocked, sidequests kinda sucked. I anxiously await ME2.

Of course, just saying that will automatically make me a fanboy, because getting a PC edition MUST mean "I hate the 360!"

IdleLeeSiuLung6087d ago

You know, like Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. Add content to the game and call it a different game?

DeadlyFire6087d ago

Just a matter of time. I say PC/X360 get ME2 early 2010 if its coming Early 2010. Most big games get slapped down to Winter dates. While PS3 gets ME 1 or 2 or both on Blu-Ray PS3 disc Fall 2010.

whothedog6087d ago (Edited 6087d ago )

lol well DREAD if it comes to two platforms than yes its not exclusive and usually regardless of what the other platform is, the PC version is usually better... PS3/PC games and 360/PC, that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

Who decided not to count pc as a gaming machine anymore?

Pandamobile6087d ago

So getting the PC version of a PC/360 game makes me a Sony fantard?

Great logic.

Persistantthug6087d ago (Edited 6087d ago )

If I buy Mass Effect (either of them), I will have fun with it, I'm sure.

On the other hand, if I don't buy it and it doesn't do particularly well, kinda like Bioshock, then that will help drive a message/point home.
That message is, if you do TIMED/TERMED exclusives, said publisher runs the likely risk that said game will sell SIGNIFICANTLY less copies than if you would have released the game equally and at the same time.

I personally think that's a good message to send.

mastiffchild6087d ago

It's more likely now than it ever has been I guess but that doesn't mean it's a definite does it?

Bioware have been saying many good things about their DA dev on PS3(even though it seems to be shipping an indeterminate length of time after the 360/PC versions)and that should also stand them in good stead for a port if one was to occur.

If it's to be made it makes most sense just after DA and ME2 are out for their respective current plats and the boards are more clear-if a disc with ME1 and 2 were to release on PS3 I think it would do pretty well as it's a great game and one PS3 only gamers should be very pleased about getting the chance to play shoukld it ever happen.

Thing is Bioware are being vague but maybe they just like to keep the game in a position were it's constantly talked about. There may easuly be zero intent of porting the game.

Christopher6087d ago (Edited 6087d ago )

Only problem is that if BioWare was 100% on the PS3, I'd probably have no excuse for my 360. I'm very happy to see Dragon Age: Origins coming to PS3 and have it on pre-order. If Mass Effect 1 & 2 and future sequels make there way to the PS3, there is probably one game a year currently that I'd get for my 360.

Edit: And, honestly, if you're a PS3 only owner and really want other BioWare games on the PS3, then support Dragon Age: Origins right out the gate and get it. The more sales of this game on the PS3, the better chance we'll see their other games on the PS3 as well. Money always is the biggest talker in business; not the only, but the biggest.

Beast_Master6087d ago

Is it me or is Mass Effect a little out dated when compared to the RPGs of late like Fallout 3, Borderlands and even Dragon Age. I am not trying to put it down just saying ME was one of the first of it's kind of Western RPGs but now all Western RPGs have built on what ME1 did and now they do it better. At this point is seems like a PS3 release would be just for noistaga? Just talking about the first game not the second. Plus wasn't the first game real buggy?

Saint Sony6087d ago

they don't say it's going to happen either.

MGSR THE HD VERSION6087d ago (Edited 6087d ago )

"Right from the beginning we said we wanted to deliver Mass Effect on the 360."

i think you will see konami making an mgs game going multiplat before you will see a mass effect game on ps3.

.......i don't know if that's accurate it's just a hunch :)

edit, it's been like 3 years since mass effect 1 came out, you know, the world is turning.

ChozenWoan6087d ago

While ME has been out a while, it is still a great game. While most RPGs are set in some mystical past or some steam punk future, ME has that "Star Wars" feel. A hi tech future with dark secrets surfacing which could destroy the entire galactic society.

Personally it reminds me of the Wing Commander series with dialog options that effect the outcome of the story as much as the action parts do. The only real difference is while the action was in space for the Wing commander series, in ME it's more Third Person Shooter. Both are still great games which will easily stand the test of time.

That is why it would be great if it was on PS3 as well, if not ohh well. I've already got ME downloaded and all I need is a better video card to play it. I'd rather play the console version, but I personally can't justify the cost. I'd have to pay at least $200+ for the console and the games vs getting a new video card for $50. If they come out with a PS3 version, then I will be all over it, if not then I always have Plan B on standby.

I will say that every gamer should play ME one way or another, it's that good.

Chubear6087d ago

Interesting to see Wrex Avatars walking around in HOME lol

Redempteur6087d ago

it's not going on ps3 unless they do like bioshock and add a bunch of stuff ( and right now they are working on mass effect 2 )

I hope people feel comfortable in six month exclusivities, because I wouldn't.

KingME6087d ago

Geez, PS3 owners are seriously on MASS EFFECT's nut!

Damn people let it go.

WMW6087d ago

kinda reminds me of all the crying and whining xbox fanboys did for mgs4 the only difference is the xbox fanboys based that rumor off of what they wanted not any facts there was nothing that showed there was ever a 360 version were as this does have things to make it seem true like one of the biggest multiplatform developers owning the ip and bioware not denying a ps3 version also with dragon age you see they aren't exclusive to ms so this rumor is based off of facts and not out of envy like the xbox fanboys were with mgs4

The_Beast6087d ago

thats EA is money hungry and it will be released on ps3... since EA owns bio ware and its not exclusives to microsoft

El Botto6087d ago

There is no such thing as a 360 exclusive.

And 360 hasnt had a good game to play with for over a year. Before that last holiday season (before Gears 2) the xbots had to wait a whole year as well.

Those who are not blind can see how sad the state of things are on the shiatbox. What kind of console is a console where you have to wait a whole year for one good game (answer: gamecube and 360).

And when a good game does come along, its automitically also on the PS3.

whothedog6087d ago (Edited 6087d ago )

Of course its going to be on the ps3, why wouldn't it?

Godmars2906087d ago

Either paying them off to keep it off the console if not the prior contract obligations that are certainly there.

TenSteps6087d ago

Remember EA now owns the Mass Effect IP they can do whatever they want maybe a contractual agreement to keep the Mass Effect trilogy timed exclusive but I'm pretty sure EA would eventually get it to the PS3

Bubble Buddy6087d ago

Ahh but the EMPIRE has cometh back with a cheaper PS3.

The Emperor will be pleased >:D

Bordel_19006087d ago

Bioshock was the last game I bought that was a timed X360 exclusive. Any other game in the future that isn't coming first or at the same time on the PS3 is a no buy for me.

Dread6087d ago

why

if its good, I would buy a Sony game that later came to the 360 .

Mass Effect - N7 DAY 2025

Bioware writes: "Like you, we’ve heard the rumors lately. You’ve made it clear you care deeply about what’s next. So let’s start by setting the record straight: the next Mass Effect game is in development, and EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe."

I expected nothing and I'm still disappointed

Like with Fallout, it's starting to feel studios are using TV / Film adaptations when they have no game info to talk about.

toxic-inferno169d ago

I feel the same way.

I mean, how difficult would it be for them to release SOMETHING of substance? Another short trailer? A couple of proper hints? A short story set during the original trilogy, but focused on fringe characters?

Hopefully they're working so hard on the game that they don't have time. But still, with every passing year and so little to show, the franchise will be slipping further and further from people's minds.

Profchaos169d ago

Yeah agree it's almost a cop out since Dev times are 5 to 10 years just throw out a few seasons instead you get them done in a year

jznrpg169d ago

I still haven’t beat Andromeda. I am waiting for a lull of good games in my backlog

P_Bomb169d ago

So the TV show will take place after the OG trilogy. I wonder which ending they’ll use?

Rebel_Scum169d ago

Should’ve just posted a picture of an Elcor saying “regretfully, we have nothing to share.”

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast503d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine503d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast503d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman502d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave751d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan751d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave750d ago (Edited 750d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
