PCGH: Starcraft 2: Hands-on test reveals performance and texture problems

At Gamescom, the guys at PCGH had a hands on test with Starcraft 2. While physics and animation were rock solid, some of the textures looked futty according to the preview. Also, heavy usage of physics caused stuttering. Hopefully, the Blizzard guys optimize the game further on.

all i know is that i plan to spam 500 zerglings, just to stress test my cpu

jdktech20106102d ago

Haha, you should spam 250 banelings and make them attack at the same time.....if your computer can handle the exploding effects, then zerglings won't be a problem

On a related note, there's 8-12 months before release in all likelihood.....it's not gonna be perfect for crying out loud...it's not even in beta stage

People are way too critical too early these days

Nihilism6102d ago (Edited 6102d ago )

yeah it's not even at beta stage although it should be close, and once they have all the content/story finished, i'm sure they have a bunch of guys that optimize all the code etc

i have faith, if there's one thing that can be said, the engine will at least be waaaaaaaaaay better than the supreme commander engine, anymore than 20 units selected at a time would kill that game.........but i suppose that's what you get when you run 16qaa and max settings in an rts game :D

Optimization and performance is usually the last thing on Blizzards mind up until the later stages where the product is booked for retail to manufacturing.

Then again it's blizzard, stunning cinematics, poorly designed graphics otherwise.

Programming is done pat, the developing.. ehh could use work. Reminds me of Rockstar.

However they do it, I've never played a bad blizzard game (wasn't a huge fan of Diablo 2 but I'm really drawn to Diablo 3 for some reason...maybe it's the pretty graphics...I don't know)

Bioware and Blizzard are the two game companies I trust to pull things off because they've given me no doubts in the past......Starcraft 2 looks simply amazing

One of the reasons the game was delayed was because of performance issues.

In Hindsight, Starcraft 2 Had The Best Gaming Community Out There

DS writes: "Like many people who grew up with their eyes glued to their TV screens and monitors, in my youth, I used to think that playing video games for a living was the best job in the world. Little did I know that getting to the point where you can earn decent money playing video games takes a tremendous amount of work and sacrifice, and there’s a good chance you’ll fail even if you give it your all."

Every Blizzard Game Ranked From Worst to Best

BLG writes: "In a little over a decade, Blizzard went from a company that could seemingly do no wrong to one embroiled in an endless stream of controversies and scandals. Unfortunately, the quality of Blizzard games suffered greatly as a result. But while it’s easy to criticize the current state of Blizzard Entertainment, it’s safe to say that many of the company’s games still hold a special place in our hearts. This is why I decided to take a little trip down memory lane and reminisce about all the Blizzard games put out over the past three decades. Yep, we’re going all the way back to the beginning with this one."
