Didn't know either franchise really had that many supporters left.

tekken 3 was the best, tekken 4 was lame and tekken 5 was equally as boreing, fighting games need some new ideas, i love kicking people through windows etc in DOA
DOA is still fun but doesnt take itself as serious as tekken thank god

DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is the best fighting game out

Tekken is old and outdated, and both DOA4 & VF5 are lame

They need to take a few notes out of the DBZ book, 2D fighting is so 1990

I believe VF5 beats DOA in almost every aspect if even by a small margin. But, DOA Hands VF it's A$$ in Level Design and that little fact alone makes DOA that much more fun to play then VF. IMO.

DBZ: Budokai 3 is better, The Tenkaichi series kind've made it lame.

Admittedly DO4 has been out ages, but so has vf5 in the arcades (ps3 is exactly the same) and vf5 blows doa away. Way more advanced texture bump mapping and lighting and just way better game play mechanics. Doa games do have flashy ring interaction and more of a Tecmo 'cartoony' look, but they are also cheap and not as intuitive as VF games. You all know those 'hammer the reversal button' noobs in doa games.

Anyhoo my vote goes VF over all 3d fighters...easy.
I am a hardcore fight fan btw, I love 2d aswell. (which btw are still the best fighters around)

2 features that give DOA the win from the start.

and enjoy more 'realistic' fighting than VF5 will win hands down. I'm just comparing the fight mechanics. With VF4, they went back to their roots and VF5 is a major visual upgrade from VF4.

The DOA series has been about over-the-top fighting with major reversals. Couple that with large interactive backgrounds and you have a completely different fighter than the VF series.

Admire the comparison ... but two totally different fighting games. Also , I agree with the other comments on this site. They really need to remove/modify the ring-out concept. Although it does add another dimension to your fighting gameplan ... it has been used and reused for 5 iterations.

But to put it plain and simple Don't play DOA4 before VF5 or Tekken. It will feel like a step down action wise trust me.The Impact on hits in DOA sh1ts on the other 2 games hard. I play all of these games and every year VF become more and more Tekken-ish. Characters use to seem like they put effort into thier attacks now when i look at VF sarah kicks effortlessly and unrealistically and moves like Hwaorang if this is supposed to be a non over the top game. the only reason VF is so called technical is because the Gravity is less permitting the than the other 2 games so juggle have a more strict timing.Never to take anything away but what that to mean about Tekken? The juggles in Tekken take timing and know how also. I love all 3 games but I enjoy DOA more than the VF and Tekken series just cause of the hits alone (But the Moment a new Fighter's Megamix comes out Good bye DOA.). Last but not least Ring outs is played out.Sega Fuk up the moment they made the backgrounds flat again in VF4.

BTW DOA is 1 1/2 years Old and still Hold it own against a So called visual behemoth.

Anyhow nothing Beats SOUL CALIBER from a perfect ARCADE FIGHTER translation POV. Dreamcast Started it all.

Plus if you think Battle Arena Toshinden is great, then you haven't played much fighting games. Only the great ones stand the test of time.

yes soul calibur is awesome kilik and raphael are my two favs although if you know how to change up nightmare or ivy's stances in the second one they can be fun as hell

to me tekken is the best fighting game and has the best story. DoA has the sexiest girls (Christie/Ayane).

tekken is garbage, you cant really mix up combo's its to strict, you have to enter specifically that combo and thats it. the animations are stiff, and the game is slow., i still happened to play tekken 1, 3 and 5 tho lol. man i hate the delays in the throws in tekken lol.

virtua fighter is alright, yeah its stiff and the graphics aren't that good, only lighting, because everyones hair that's a light color looks like plastic and barley moves. also sarah seems to float off the ground a bit. the game is my 3rd fav 3d fighter. it just gets boring after a while since theres not many characters, and UGHH the level design is HORRID, flat and boring, theres only 3 types of levels in that game. no gate and big, medium and mid gate, and small n huge gate.

Soul calibur, now thats a good game and im not sure how namco made that game so fun, fast and exciting yet they made tekken?? wierd. theres nothing wrong with soul calibur except its not as fun as doa4 in my opinion. luv the create a character!

Dead or alive 4. this game has gone thru huge steps in each sequal, especially 4, the combat is fast, fun and pretty to watch. the lighting isn't over done like it is in VF5, and i like the anime look. counters are fun, and while easy to pic up, if you master it no noob can beat you. enviorments all look and feel different, with danger at every turn you have to always be on guard. just hope DOA5 adds counters for grabs

all games fun except tekken in my opinion, DOA4 shudn't really be compared to VF as VF is realistic, and DOA4 isn't, doa is more animish. VF is only allowed to be compared to Tekken. and VF is definatly better than tekken

I'm not a fan of either series, but from watching that video DOA looked better. And the gameplay of VF looked pretty stiff, while DOA's fighting looks way smoother.

One thing, but if a game these days misses any online support, it's last gen in my opinion.

Things like: "we can't make it online, too much lag", really is bull

DOA4 has online, FNR3 has online, many sportgames and other games that need to run with as little lag as possible have online.

Too bad, take another shot with VF6 and some online then!

VF5 audio in punches and kick still sound the same as part 4 will low cheesy quality. As far as the combo's go yes your still beating a person as about a inch off of the ground on damn ner every combo. Just because a game is slow don't make it technical. VF5 is stale and the fighting is the same as part 4 with the dodge of part 3. I think it Is Bogus.I have gotten a boost on my Cable modem that power it up 50% more than normal so that mean the coding can be optimize to allow the host give out more Data in a broader amount (Besides Comcast,Cablevison and plenty others service offer the ugrade so this is not a problem for future games that need more uploading from the host. Especially since im uploading 4.9 MBs instead of 1.2Mbs. this can uprove online gameplay 50% also.)
I've played VF5 and believe you me the timing on combo's can be adjusted online to be a little more user friendly (Remember "Game Experience my change online"?) Anyway Sega needs to add the online Mode to give this game more replay value cause ain't nobody really checking for this Sh1t anyway. People act like they want it but could really care less.I for one Love the VF series but still thinks the fighting megamix is better and Combo timing is a little overated to be able to not work online.

i have ps3 and im dissapointed that VF5 runs at 30 frames per second. (sega's lazy, not ps3's fault) the only reason i think the game is ok is cuz its my first virtua fighter. but as i heard their weren't many upgrades at all. while DOA4 has a bunch of upgrades. i know when DOA5 comes out for both systems its going to stay at 60 frames per second like always.

I never knew that since they keep claiming it was 60 fps. If this is your First VF experience you should have Played part 3 on dreamcast to understand that they went south after it.

DOA make significant changes in every installation and not just movelist updates were talking major gameplay elements. Anybody whose ever played all three would know that DOA is the only game that you cannot put down and Pick up weeks later thinking that you will still whoop @ss. Tekkeni can leave it alone for years pick it up and continue where i left off.

VF is overated period (And i love it to death mind you.) But Sega is known to shorthand sh1t for no apparent reason. Basically about the online bit it can be achieveable without a doubt so all of you PS3 faithful must deal with the short end of the joystick.

Both are superior to the other in their own ways.

I agree with you buddy. They are both Great games. I have it for the ps3 and I intend on buying it for my 360 Elite when its released. From my personal exprience the games tend to run better and look nicer on the 360.

But, both games are Great Fighting games. In regards to which looks better in the video....I would have to say its close. But, in my house, on my 1080p tv, with my ps3, and my Elite hooked up via hdmi....I would have to say that honestly Dead or Alive Looks better than Virtua Fighter...But, I really don't care. I play them both and enjoy them both.

This is a solid list and I would love another Def Jam game (or at least on Xbox BC) after the abomination that was Icon. Fight Night unfortunately has been canned in favour of those UFC games which imo are quite lackluster.
