what is it good for?
absolutely nothing

Gaming has been built up around conflict. Be it good vs evil, Red vs Blue, Hegs vs Vehktains, or everyones favorite... us vs them. So it is no surprise that gamers have gathered around their console's banner, ready to "debate the finner points of ownership". It's in our nature.

Mankind's history is a war torn tapestry of pain and glory. From Cain and Able, to Sparta vs Persia, to America and Britain, to Axis vs Allies, to Ali vs Iron Mike. We all have warrior's blood in our veins. Thank heavens for gaming to let us vent out our aggressions, or else we'd all make the 6 o'clock news within the first 28 days of withdraw (now you know the real cause of the outbreak).

Thanks to gaming, I can unleash the chains and become a God of War, destroy Flood ships the size of cities, or annihilate an entire alien species before it literally sucks the life force from the entire galaxy... all before dinner.

The console war comes in handy for those times when we are not gaming. It allows us to still compete in an orderly fashion that doesn't involve broken jaws, pulled muscles, or decapitation. Yes, it can still get ugly on the front lines, with insults flying left and right, and inevitably many a pride has fallen on the field of battle. Yet at the end of the day, we all sit down and eat dinner before catching a good nights sleep.

So to all the FBs out there keeping the flames of war burning, I only have one thing to say...
... You guys certainly know how to make me laugh.

Keep up the good fight and Game On!

You may be over thinking things a little. Your relating contexts that have less to do with each other than your making them appear.

Gamers fight one another because they have the material to do so.

The question isn't why do they fight it's who supplied that narration and the material. Usually the answer is one and the same.

Actually, I'm just having some fun playing devils advocate with the topic. Too many people take it waaaay to seriously and until we learn to laugh at the whole mess, we will never make any progress. It will remain a heated and sensitive topic that no one wants to face, and thus it will never end.

If we can laugh at ourselves for being fanatics from time to time, then we can let go of any hurt feelings and get back to whats really important...

I have seen so much hatred towards the 360 from some of the more rabbid ps3 fans. While I have also seen it go the other way I have noticed a slight trend lately. Some of the more vocal 360 fans have stated their interest in getting the ps3 when it became cheaper and now it seems likely they will be doing so.

Not that it will change anything mind you but you have to respect them for at least being the bigger gamer to put aside the difference and pick up the console they once so opposed. I myself was like that until last year when I got the ps3. It is a great system but not perfect as others make it out to be. Neither is the 360 and I was never one to say it was. No console is without its faults but the biggest fault is the gamers who are so one sided to not even acknowledge and respect the choices made by others to further the same cause we all are part of.

It is one thing to be a loyalist to the cause but keep in mind it is the same cause the so called opposition is in favor of too. Great games and having fun playing them! I have a good friend who he himself is starting to realize the error of being such a one sided sony fan. He has been spending more time on his cousins 360 latley that his ideas towards it are changing. He can see there is good to being a gamer from a general sense instead of being restricted to just one console/company.

I wouldnt be surprised if more 360 gamers bought the cheaper ps3 and became more neutral in this so called war. Maybe voicing an opinion or two in regards to the multiplatform games but most enjoying what each system has to offer. I also believe there are some ps3 gamers out there who are interested in the 360 and have been putting it off for similar reasons (price, games, potential backlash from other ps3 extremists). There should be no reason to fight and bicker like little children over the same cause both are speaking so loudly about.

In conclusion I feel that those who are getting the ps3 and have a 360 will not be disappointed in what it has to offer. The same holds true for those ps3 only players that have an interest in the 360. There is great potential in both systems (maybe the wii too for kicks and giggles) and if you put aside the differences long enough you will see that I am right.

A good laugh, and to see how much effort someone can put into defending their brand instead of something more constructive

this networking feature seperates dony from xbox without this their isnt legs for 360 fans to stand on when you pose the arguement which is better ps3 or 360. this is the reason for the console wars and its what fuels them until sony relases a firmware patch to fix this the war will continue once this happens i believe you'd have to be from mars to pay for something that is completely free. Actually without this feature the psn outshines the xbl in every way.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle32d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

jznrpg38d ago

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree37d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai37d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
