What to Buy

IGN:

"All right! You've decided to get a Wii. Now what? It's easier than you think so don't sweat it. We've listed everything you'll need, from the system to extra controllers and yes, even Wii Fit and the Balance Board for those of you who have exercise on the brain. While Nintendo's console is cheaper than most of the competition, it can still cost a pretty penny once you add extra controllers and other accessories, so you'll need to decide upfront just how much you want to spend and what is your highest priority."

I just don't get it. I could have sworn they cut development costs down to 240 bucks?

Edit: Read it and I still don't get it. Jamesy is losty.

Speaking to the Times Online, when Hirai was asked about selling each unit at a loss, he responded, "If you're just talking about the hardware alone, the quick answer is yes." Nevertheless, Hirai is confident in the PlayStation business as a whole, and the traditional razor and blades business model. He continued, "That makes good headlines, but I don't actually know that that's the true nature of the business that we're all in, whether it's PlayStation, Xbox or the Wii. I think the better indicator is to look at the business as a whole platform, to ask: are you profitable in terms of the hardware, software and peripherals. And the answer to that question is yes on a gross profit level since the last fiscal year."

Bankrupt morally and financially Sony has been unable to effectively reform and change its business practices to be competitive in the 21st century. Facing endless quarters of losses with no turn around in sight whatsoever, coupled with dwindling cash reserves the Sony empire slowly but surely moves towards bankruptcy.

The PS3 Slim is representative of everything that is wrong with Sony's business model, and for that reason it will be the last PlayStation ever released.

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

This game along with Rogue Squadron got me into to Star Wars. The release of special edition VHS Star Wars collection was perfectly times on top of all that. 😆

Because it is.

Please re-release this.

SimpleSlave75d ago (Edited 75d ago )

But it wasn't. Although I do agree that some of the tie-in media, like the novels and comics, were pretty good.

Still, games like Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Rogue Squadron, and the space sims were peak 90s Star Wars. Shadows fell flat because of the abysmal controls and unimaginative levels. And if you wanted to really experience the seedy side of the universe, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 was peak, and it wasn't even close.

Regardless, and much to my dismay, we got the better version thanks to Ubislop in Outlaws, which is what Shadows should've been, albeit at a smaller scale.
