Mass Effect 2 tech upgrades impress

Digital Foundry writes:

"Last week BioWare demoed a short 15-minute sampler of Mass Effect 2 at gamescom, and the overall impact of the game is hugely positive, with a far more confident and impressive implementation of the Unreal Engine 3 technology in place.

The litany of technical issues found in the Xbox 360 version of the original game is expansive. For instance, the game had clear texture-streaming issues whereby gameplay would slow down or even freeze when the DVD drive was unable to keep up with the demand for new data - an issue that an NXE hard disk install would only marginally improve.

There was also the sense that original Mass Effect was somewhat too ambitious for the Unreal Engine 3 technology that powered it, with some serious frame-rate issues both in the cinematics and during gameplay."

It doesn't look even close to U2 calibre, sorry.

@skeletonss:
Massive =/= Impressive

@omega:
I was talking about U2, you weren't on the same page. It sounds a bit ironic but U2 is AAA and ME2 is AA this time around.

kk

skeletonss6105d ago

having played mass effect 1 and uncharted , the mass effect is far deeper than uncharteds world. Graphically is a different story.

Omega46105d ago (Edited 6105d ago )

You do realize that U1 isnt even AAA while ME1 is right?

Edit: Sorry but ME2 has a much better chance at being AAA than U2 especially if you look at previous installments

Sarcasm6105d ago

I disagree, I'm playing ME1 and it's just as "AAA" as Uncharted. Though yes it had some technical issues, but the story elements is engrossing and the overall design is magnificent.

In ME2 it looks like they're really trying to fix these issues and have a smoother experience. Which I'm in for.

Never have I felt like pre-ordering a game and ME2 is it. Bioware deserves the money.

leila016105d ago

What does this have to do with Uncharted?

My most anticipated games:

Modern Warfare 2
Left 4 Dead 2
Mass Effect 2
Dragon Age : Origins
Final fantasy XIII
Bayonetta

I just need an X360 (modern warfare of left 4 dead bundle) and I'm set ;)

mrv3216105d ago (Edited 6105d ago )

How about you use your opinion to decide which is best.

But oh wait you probably haven't played Unchart... and even if you have your bias will tell you it sucks.

Uncharted 1 in my mind is a AAA game.

EDIT:

AAA= 9.0-10

http://n4g.com/PS3/games/g-...

LOL.

http://n4g.com/Xbox360/game...

They have the same score. woops.

Pennywise6105d ago

Omega, you are so off base it makes me sick. It is shocking to think there are actually people out there that believe what you just said. Why dont you take a time out in the elevator and think about what you just said while it loads.

Uncharted was the unfortunate recipient of the negative journalism that surrounded the PS3 at launch. UC is the best gaming experience I have had to date this gen. UC2 will clearly surpass that.

Anyone with a brain with an independent thought process knows Uncharted is AAA.

Ashriel6105d ago

what the f*ck? Why do sony fanboys have to compare every game with ps3 exclusives? it's pathetic.

Oh, and Uncharted 2 is not even a RPG, fyi....

Omega46105d ago

@Pennywise

Well thats YOUR fanboy opinion, I think its better to go by peoplse opinion who actually have a job to review games. Since I can say I believe BK: Nuts and Bolts to be AAA but it didnt get AAA scores and i bet you dont think its AAA either.

You can either go by fanboy opinion or professional journalism your choice :)

Pennywise6105d ago

BK AAA... lol. Thank you and goodnight.

Yeah, just because they work for a website doesn't mean they aren't biased.

CrazyOrange6105d ago

did you play banjo?

im playing it now, its really good, beautiful ,fun ,addective and very creative.

i think people hated it because they expected it to be same as the previous one?!

Omega46105d ago

Just cause a sites opinion doesnt agree with yours doesnt make them biased.

Oh and Uncharted 1 AAA!? LMAO

Go play BK:N&B and then make an opinion which will actually be valid

StanLee6105d ago (Edited 6105d ago )

Look at all the insecure PS3 fanboys in here. Uncharted was a medicore, 8 hour game with amazing visuals and not much else. To even compare the game to Mass Effect is absolute fanboy idiocy at it's best. PS3 fanboys need to piss off!

@ FlipMode

PS3 fanboys are the ones that are ignorant. The game had a transparent story, generic set pieces, platforming and puzzles that offered no challenge and little replay value. Let's keep the argument about graphic because as a game, had it not have the impressive amount of polish it did, Uncharted would be nothing more than another run-of-the-mill shooter.

WMW6105d ago (Edited 6105d ago )

didn't UC 1 sell more then ME 1 and only has few points lower then ME 1 on sites like metacritics also UC 2 won more best of e3 and best console game awards then ME 2 so if you don't think UC is aaa then i don't see why you think ME is

FlipMode6105d ago

"Uncharted was a medicore, 8 hour game with amazing visuals and not much else"

PURE ignorance

mrv3216105d ago

Ermm right I hate to do this but let's just look shall we

You classed Mass Effect a AAA game, it recieved a average score of 9.0,
Unchart: Drakes Fortune which you DIDN'T class a AAA recieved a average score of 9.0.

And yet he's the fanboy?

They are both great games, different games but great anyway.

http://n4g.com/PS3/games/g-...
http://n4g.com/Xbox360/game...

So ermm I guess both games are equal in their own rights? Oh wait Uncharted is PS3 only and thus sucks or something?

Mr_Bun6105d ago

How did you go from ME to BK?...I didn't think it was possible for me to think any less of your opinion. I suggest you play Uncharted before knocking it...it has amazing graphics/gameplay and has no loading or installs, which is more than I can say for your beloved Elevator Action (Mass Effect).

You can check out my profile to see that I finished ME and while it was a good RPG, it had many flaws...Anyone who complains about the length of the movie scenes in MGS4 has never played ME

Omega46105d ago

@ mrv321
Sorry but you sir are wrong, ME average is 91 while U1 is 88. N4G doesnt count since it is full of fanboy blogs.

@ Mr Bun
I've played uncharted and sorry but gameplay where shots to the head dont kill, a story which seems so similar to Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider its not funny (i mean crazed zombies come on) and a final boss fight which is just a bunch of QTE. That aint AAA in my eyes not by a longshot.

Masamori Sumimura6105d ago (Edited 6105d ago )

^^^^
Omega is right. 88 is Not AAA while 90 is AAA

@the guy who said ME sold less than Uncharted

If I'm correct Both ME and UC have sold a little bit above 2Millions Each.

mrv3216105d ago

Maybe you review aggragtor is just 360 fanboys or PC fanboys.

Crazed zombies? Oh you mean the well explained monsters you fight. Your fighting monster because of a curse which is explained need I add, it changes the way the game is played and is a nice change of pace and pretty scary. And how about those 'zombies' in Gears 2 which are pretty close to Uncharteds what are they then? What about the covenant are they just Zombies to?

The end boss fight being QTE? Are you sure that's not Gears 2? Actually yeah I check it is Gears of War 2.

I like how you discredit N4G but post on here a lot.

Omega46105d ago

@mrv321

1. Aliens=/=zombies
2. Yes cause riding on the back of one of those things (cant remember the name) and chasing it down while SHOOTING is entirely a QTE battle.
3. Im note discrediting N4G just the PS blog sites which try and up PS game averages

ShabzS6105d ago (Edited 6105d ago )

... you guys are ruining every 360 news article with nonsense.... uncharted 2?? wtf does it have to do with mass effect? ...

mrv3216105d ago

But you see the creature I'm talking about in Gears 2 are those mutated human things while the creatures in Uncharted 2 are mutated humans as is explained in the cutscene.

Also, the final boss in gears 2 is you pointing at a monster and holding fire down monster dies, you only get to control where you shooting and when to shooting.

In uncharted your chasing a dude down and shooting at him with control of his movement.

SO expalin to me why Unchart is still a QTE?

And finally, to get an average you must

Add up data and divide by the number. To get the most accurate score you must add up most data, Meta Critic uses far less data than N4G for both ME1 and Uncharted so N4G is a far more accurate. Although the sauce may be bias but how do you know that you are assuming the sites are biased for giving a game a high score, surely one can say by giving a game a lower score it's also bias?

likedamaster6105d ago (Edited 6105d ago )

Comparing a pretty action/platformer to the best RPG this gen? You've got to be kidding me.

PS3 fanboys couldn't be more delusional. How bout them Mods!

skeletonss6105d ago

agree that mass effect is WAY better than uncharted. In mass effect you can actually get a feeling for your character, not some guy who looks liek hes on an add for the show LOST all the time. Or a redbull commercial.

N4PS3G6105d ago

WTF? How does an unreleased game beats an unreleased game?!?!?!?!

Sarcasm6105d ago

I disagree. Because nobody has played either to make any judgments.

Oh who am I kidding, logic doesn't work here.

*moves along*

Ashriel6105d ago

lol, how about WAITING FOR THE DAMN GAME TO COME OUT, what the f*ck is wrong with this people....

morganfell6105d ago (Edited 6105d ago )

Well many of us have played the Uncharted 2 beta. It has Multiplayer. It has Co-op. Remember Co-op? Yeah, that was the feature used to damn Killzone 2 despite ME1 and Bioshock getting a pass having none of that. Not to mention Multiplayer.

I am not buying into any of Casey Hudson's bullcrap this time. He made extravangant promises last time about exploring the galaxy. That was a lie. What did we get? A small piece of low res texture world on one planet out of several solar systems. RPGs should get beyond reading text about some planet you can't visit.

I also find it odd that so many civilizations believe in building their worlds underground. That's a worn out trick from 1950's Sci-Fi films to save on matte shots.

He made wonderful overblown claims about a living game. That was a lie. Try talking to the random character. Get in their face and keep walking into them. It's like you are Bruce Willis in the Sixth Sense. Far too many of the conversation trees, despite the choices had responses that were all too similar and certainly had far too little impact.

We were promised all of that time we spent exploring ever crevice, working through multi-plays would be rewarded as a characters carried over. That was a lie. Don't tell some ridiculous Revan style loss of power is going to fit. It's only worked in one game ever and that happened to have a string of novels whose final work supported such a mechanic.

No I am from Missouri this time and all of the promises amount to nothing until I see it actually working. Not in a video, not in a preview, but running in a final retail copy.

Sarcasm6105d ago

I'm going to kindly disagree MorganFell. Sure, we could look at the faults of what ME doesn't have. But then we'd miss the things it does do well. Which IMO, was sufficient for me. Though of course, having paid $15 for a used copy might have skewed my expectations, but nonetheless I'm enjoying it very much. To me, it stands as one of the best 360 games ever created. Clearly my opinion of course.

What the f*k does this have to do with frikin uncharted?!?! Amazing how you let that poor soul derail this whole thread in 1 second.

ThatCanadianGuy6105d ago

Same here, still haven't finished the first one but i did enjoy what i played of it.
Good to know the issues are being ironed out for ME2

Liquid Ocelot6105d ago (Edited 6105d ago )

Mass Effect 2 looks and plays 10 times better then both uncharted games but then both Uncharted games look like up-scaled Ps2 games.

@below no i wasn't being sarcastic.

Sarcasm6105d ago

Yeah definitely looks like upscaled PS2 games

http://www.psu.com/media/un...

I hope you were being sarcastic.

FlipMode6105d ago

Whoa sarcasm that pic was nice
I am really looking forward to uncharted

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine519d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast519d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman519d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave767d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan767d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave766d ago (Edited 766d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
