Xbox 720: No Time Soon

Are you dreaming of the Xbox 720? Or are you waiting patiently for the next round of consoles to drive down the price of that shiny new Xbox 360 you've been eyeing for quite some time. For godsakes don't let the price hold you back . Because regardless of which of these categories you fall into (if either), you shouldn't see either anytime soon.

It seems the 720 test models just don't overheat, but spontaneously combust.

Nitrowolf26112d ago

dustgavin6112d ago (Edited 6112d ago )

We'll be seeing a Ps4 before we see an Xbox720.

Mainly because the Ps3 isn't selling while the Xbox360 is.

FlipMode6112d ago

Ps3 sells the same as xbox, even though its more expensive.

FAIL

FlipMode6112d ago

Shadow man you can spin that all you want but the retail price of an xbox is less then a ps3

spartan112g6112d ago

were you burned twice in one day?

FlipMode6112d ago (Edited 6112d ago )

I think its hilarious you think I am getting "burned".

^^^^ Not only that Flipmode, but it sells at a faster rate than the 360 did on the year by year basis. If the arcade wasn't enough to completely outsell the PS3 in 2008 and it only sold .1 million in 2009, then yeah Slim will come and takeover.

Do we have to keep approving these articles? Do they count as news?

Oh well.

FlatulentGhost6112d ago

These articles do make the false assumption that ever will be another Xbox.

It should be clear from Microsoft's actions over the past few years that isn't going to happen. The Xbox 360 was green lighted with the guidelines that it wouldn't rack up losses like the first Xbox. That is exactly what it ended up doing.

After 8 years and 8 billion dollars in losses and the massive drop in revenue and profits Microsoft has been experiencing has squashed any chance of Microsoft wasting more billions on new Xbox hardware.

The days of blowing billions like was nothing are long over. Back when the first Xbox was conceived Microsoft's stock was still rising, revenue and profits were growing, and they weren't having to spend 10s of billions of their cash propping up their stock like they are now.

Big layoffs, cutting projects, the massive money pit the Xbox has been no longer has a place at Microsoft.

Recycling the old Xbox 360 hardware with motion controls tacked on is really their only option other than just pulling the plug on the entire Xbox mess.

At least when Microsoft's motion controls bomb it won't be a multi-billion dollar bomb but only a few hundred million bomb.

They may then wake up and turn their focus back to the dying PC gaming market. As it dies, one of the major reasons to stick with Windows and not switch to Linux or a Mac goes away.

we've heard this from delusional pachter before that "this is the last gen of gaming"

Trust me, the ps4, and xbox 3 will come out 2011-2013... most likely 2012. Fact: Unreal Engine 3 is due to end in 2012, by then Unreal Engine 4 will be out for the new consoles. I assume they and a bunch of other companies will start developing 2010 for release in 2012. My prediction is that the three companies will use the same architecture with upgraded specs for the next generation, so the game companies won't complain about this gen ending too soon, and it would be easier to do backwards compatibility.

josuttis6112d ago (Edited 6112d ago )

Anyone who actually believes Microsoft is sticking around in the console market is off in fantasyland.

They've been closing down first party studios like mad over the past two years. They are now down to only three: Rare, Lionhead, and Turn 10. Bungie is done with the Halo stuff.

Microsoft was already in bad shape with fist party developers at the start of this gen, they would be even worse trying to launch a new console with such a joke lineup of first party devs.

This is it. Microsoft has finally had enough of the losses. 7 to8 billion in eight years was the limit. All that fanboy talk of Microsoft willing to spend any amount on the console market was obviously fanboy pipedreams.

Tacking on their EyeToy style motion controls will be a way for Microsoft to keep the suckers paying 50 bucks a year for another year or two as the 360 dies off in the market.

But Microsoft wasting more billions launching new Xbox hardware again? You have to be joking. Look how much they've lost on the complete junk Xbox 360 hardware. With projects and teams being shut down across the company and thousands of people being let go, no one in Microsoft senior leadership is in any mood to let the guys who have nothing to show for eight years of work and 7-8 billion in red ink.

"Michael Pachter predicted"

That tells you everything you need to know I dont think this guy has ever been right about anything

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
