Did Sony Do What Microsoft Should Have Done First?

Should Microsoft redesign the 360 and why haven't they yet? The PS3 came out an entire year after the 360 yet they got a redesign before the 360 and the 360 has several technical problems that the PS3 does not. Has Microsoft failed their consumers or do they have other plans?

im guessing 1 of the reasons is the hard drive they have out now i mean if they redid the 360 to be slim and small the current hard drives would be useless

like don't both the ps3 phat and the ps3 slim use the same type of hard drive

but then again i really dunno i just thought of this a few minutes ago

FlatulentGhost6096d ago (Edited 6096d ago )

"like don't both the ps3 phat and the ps3 slim use the same type of hard drive"

Both of them, PS3 and PS3 Slim, can be upgraded with standard off the shelf 2.5-inch SATA notebook harddisk.

Gue16096d ago

Good thinking @qface64. I think you hit the nail on the head with that...

BrothaDave6096d ago

I don't care if it's slim, I just want it to be more reliable

slave2Dcontroller6096d ago (Edited 6096d ago )

Its not the redesign thats the focal point. Its the PRICE! Hellooo. Furthermore the 360 has a tendency to overheat with the size that it is so why in the hell would they want to make it smaller? So the heat heat could spread more distant at a faster rate?

They have released the Elite and Jasper with different chip sets and apparently its still an issue.

BrothaDave6096d ago (Edited 6096d ago )

But that was not my point, my point is if Sony can do it then why can't Microsoft? Say what you want, and yes I agree the price is the key here, but if Sony can come with a redesign why can't Microsoft when their console has had the most problems?

Upgraded chipsets didn't do it so they need to go deeper into it and redesign it unless the new xbox is really coming out in 2011, then I guess it doesn't matter. If it is going longer than that they need to do something.

Eddie201016096d ago

From a hardware design point the Xbox 360 is a complete disaster, everything in the Xbox 360 creates lots of heat, the CPU, the GPU, and the DVD drive (Which at 12x speed creates lots of heat and noise) all of that in a case that has no real way of getting rid of that heat(doesn't have proper air flow or ventilation). Also a proprietary hard drive which serves two purposes, one is to guaranty Microsoft makes money from the sell of hard drives, two is for security purposes, and on the second one I'm not sure it helped much because the Xbox 360 is probably the easiest console to hack out of the current gen consoles, probably because it so closely resembles a PC. All of that and a huge power brick that has only gotten a little smaller than what the release consoles had.

Probably the main reason they have not redesigned the console is due to the use of a proprietary hard drive.

BrothaDave6096d ago

The proprietary hard drive is a good point but I never said it had to be slimmer, I only asked why they didn't redesign it. I don't care if it is slimmer or what, they should just make a new enclosure, update some of the things that they know are a problem and release a new model. Hopefully when Natal comes out they will do something like this otherwise 360 sales may go down, price drop or not.

slave2Dcontroller6096d ago

From what you guys are saying, sounds like the only redesign that would be logical is to make it bigger and that wont happen. I would loooove to see them jam that power brick inside a 360. XD

BrothaDave6096d ago

there are quite a few things they can do such as improve the fans, use better quality parts and redesign the casing. They don't have to make it bigger necessarily, they just need to change the position of the things that are inside or improve the quality of the materials that compose the 360.

at the end of the day it's broke and they need to fix it, but I guess if they were going to do that they would have already.

slave2Dcontroller6096d ago (Edited 6096d ago )

In the real world what you said makes plenty of sense. Unfortunately we're talking the world of business here. Better parts mean higher manufacturing cost which is obviously off of Microsofts radar.

The failure rate has had very little impact where the 360 is concerned. I bought one(Arcade Jasper SKU) knowing the situation. People love the machine so much that the concern for them isnt the fact that MS sold them a faulty piece of hardware but rather how soon can they get they get it back after it bricks and its sent off for repair. In ALOT of cases its wash, rinse, repeat. This is a trend that MS is clearly aware of and they know they dont have to fix a damn thing, just ship out another box and all is forgiven til it happens again. Mine has never failed but that probably due to the fact that I beat Gears 2 and havent really touched it since but I put it back in the box so it remains in tact.

MS has found a loop hole in successfully selling faulty products this gen just as Sony found a way to do it last gen. The only difference is Sony opted to fix it whilst MS prefers to pretend that it doesnt exist and if their own fan base isnt being vocal about it then why should they? Mention RROD around your average 360 gamer and see how defensive they become. Go figure.

-Edited.

yeah I guess you are right, it's a useless argument if most people don't care. Just send me another one when you get the chance ok, lol

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle2d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga10d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199210d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga10d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box10d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion10d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7210d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7510d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit10d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14910d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7710d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
