Metroid Prime Trilogy forces motion control on gamers

ARS: Metroid Prime Trilogy brings all three later-generation Metroid games together in one package, and adds motion-controls to Metroid Prime 1 and 2. It's a good package for $50, and for those gamers who haven't played the games, this gives them a chance to get the entire experience in one package. One minor annoyance, though: you can only play using the motion controls.

The game landed on our doorstep a few days ago, hot off the presses, and I couldn't wait to find out how the first two Metroid Prime titles played with the motion controls. The results were pleasantly surprising-look for a more in-depth review early next week-but I was taken aback when the instruction manual noted that the GameCube controller wouldn't work on any of the games.

Umm...you can already play Prime 1 and 2 with the old controller on Wii.

"Why remove the option?"

Because the point of the boxed trilogy is to give the other two games the control scheme out of Corruption. Duh.

Otherwise, you'd be paying $50 to put the OLD control scheme on Prime 3.

Agreed, and I'll add that since you can play both the gamecube primes on the Wii anyways, what's really the issue?

Pent up angst! imo

Have you guys played Metroid Prime 3 with the motion controls?

I haven't...I was waiting for this - I loved the first two on the GameCube. How does the motion control layout work for Metroid 3? Is it similar to the first two where you had to get the target reticle near the enemy, then you could lock on? Or is it more like a real FPS with no auto-aim kinda thing? Also, if you guys don't mind answering - can I use my pistol and nunchuk layout on this, or will I need access to the buttons on the wiimote?

Thanks in advance!

NexGen, this game still uses the lock on I believe, but its not necessary anymore since you can freely aim on the fly, means you can aim while walking and stuff, something that wasn't possible on gamecube, that makes the action much more fluid and enjoyable, the MP3 controls are incredibly intuitive you won't want to look back at old FPS anymore after you try it, it must be the closest you can get to mouse-keyboard configuration.

I highly recommend you to get it.

NexGen -- You'll need access to the buttons on the remote.

There is an auto-lock on the advanced setting, but it's more of a screen/camera lock. It's not an auto aim. Your view gets fixed to an enemy, but you still have to aim the Wiimote to where you want to shoot. And, of course, you could just leave that be and free aim the whole time, if you really wanted to.

Prime 1 was awesome and Prime 2 was very good. The 1st thing I thought after playing 3 was," Good God I would love to replay these with Wii controls." And look, dreams do come true. Disregard this stupid article and pick the damn thing up day 1. I beat all three on hard at 100% and am looking forward to doing it again. The Conduit can't even hang with the likes of this. At all. The original Prime was probably one of the best games I've EVER played. If you've got a big screen, surround sound and cool neighbors, color yourself happy. Good times are ahead.

That's why it got a trailer last year

Maybe it will happen after Metroid Prime 4 launches. Put Metroid Prime 2 & 3 on Switch and Switch 2.

Metroid Prime: The Story So Far - Everything You Need To Know Before Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

"Metroid Prime Trilogy, the Wii compilation of Retro Studios' first-person take on the Metroid series, launched in North America on 24th August 2009, exactly 15 years ago.

In honour of that sparking release (well, a little less sparkling than the originals in some places due to a few missing effects), we're taking the opportunity to recap Samus' story so far in the Metroid Prime games while we wait for the fourth numbered entry..." - Ollie Reynolds | NintendoLife

my most anticipated game.
just started playing the Trilogy on WiiU again (love the motion controls with wiimote)
amazing series!

Neonridr630d ago

if they aren't going to remaster all 3 titles prior to 4, it would have been nice if they just gave us a bare bones Switch port of the Wii U Trilogy. Thankfully I own that so I can still replay all 3 before 4 comes along.

all 3 titles remastered would be awesome.
i would still miss the motion controls though :(
