Microsoft's Xbox 360 Is Looking Good

Seeking Alpha writes: "All three current generation home consoles are about to or have had substantial price cuts. Sony (SNE) has been forced into it by being ridiculously overpriced, Nintendo (NTODY.PK) is doing it to counter a huge slump in Wii sales and Microsoft (MSFT) is doing it because they can and because they want more market share.

So let's look at the current state of the Xbox 360. Firstly, for every three Sony Playstation PS3s in the world there are four Microsoft Xbox 360s. A considerable success considering that this is only Microsoft's second machine and that they entered a market dominated by Sony."

As per usual, one fundamental piece of info missing.

"Firstly, for every three Sony Playstation PS3s in the world there are four Microsoft Xbox 360s. A considerable success considering that this is only Microsoft's second machine and that they entered a market dominated by Sony."

They entered the current gen market 1 year earlier than Sony, that is why there is a lead. Check the figures, and see what happens if they launch at the same time.

Funny how articles always neglect to mention this fact.

prunchess6146d ago

Thought you'd stick some 360 news in the PS3 section. Feel like a bit of flame baiting?

deadreckoning6666146d ago (Edited 6146d ago )

Well, look at it this way. Sony dominated the market for 10 YEARS and 360 only had a ONE YEAR head start. Ur telling me that ONE YEAR alone can erase 10 YEARS of dominance??? If so, then thats pretty sad. Don't get me wrong, I own a PS3 myself and its the best console I own but I thk too many people blame that ONE YEAR head start M$ had as PS3's downfall, when in fact that shouldn't have mattered since they had previously ruled the world of gaming for a whole DECADE.

Edit: Actually ur right, anazagi, 360 didn't get a head start its just that Sony released their console to the public too late. Personally, Im happy Sony waited to release a "finished console", but from a business standpoint, M$ has shown that releasing an "unfinished console" to get a one year head start actually works. So ur right, that ONE YEAR headstart did make a huge difference and it shows that the average consumer will buy anythg if theres no competition for it.

@people saying its a flaimbait article- OKAY, the only people who make an article a flamebait article are u guys with ur comments. If u guys call it a flamebait article, then it will become a flamebait article. Simple as that. U don't know what this guy was thinking when he wrote this. If the open zone begins with "54.2%" or "xbot", then its the users themselves who start the flamebait

PirateThom6146d ago

Rome wasn't built in a day and Sony didn't shift 100m units in a year.

Trollimite6146d ago

why this is in the ps3 section is beyond me! but i do know that its intended to start a flame war! so im not gonna fall for it!

It's Bruce on Games. Why would you even bother reading his "article"?

yess6146d ago

And the ps2 continued to sell up till today;-)

You sounded like you could use a tube of this....

duplissi6146d ago

dont read, its an article written by bruce from bruce on games

callahan096146d ago (Edited 6146d ago )

Anybody note the clear-cut bias in this paragraph?

"All three current generation home consoles are about to or have had substantial price cuts. Sony (SNE) has been forced into it by being ridiculously overpriced, Nintendo (NTODY.PK) is doing it to counter a huge slump in Wii sales and Microsoft (MSFT) is doing it because they can and because they want more market share."

The PS3 was "ridiculously overpriced" -- that kind of statement has no business in a serious article. Right, Sony and Nintendo are doing it because they're forced, but Microsoft, oh they're only doing it because they can and want to! Hahaha. That's funny. Why is everybody always giving Microsoft the benefit of the doubt, giving them the free pass? It's just craziness.

Sarcasm6146d ago

^ Because Ken Kutaragi pee'd in all their cups. That's why MS gets away with murder. Murdering people's brain cells.

morganfell6146d ago (Edited 6146d ago )

Are you really bruce on games? I ask because just like him you omit facts. Microsoft had a 1 year head start in the US and Japan but in Europe they had an 18 month headstart.

And that head start wasn't for the over all total of every console ever. It was the total for this generation.

After all, it is 360 fans that pretend the PS2 doesn't exist, they pretend Sony isn't still making millions of dollars off of it when the xbox is dead, and they pretend that it doesn't occasionally sales wallop the 360 in one country or the other.

EDIT - An 8 million lead with millions of dead units isn't an 8 million lead. And the lead that exists only counts if the race ends today.

Cold 20006146d ago (Edited 6146d ago )

Spin it as much as you want to.

360 has an 8 million lead on the PS3.

EIGHT MILLION.

Wii = 1st

360 = 2nd

PS3 = 3rd : in other words last.

@sarcasm: MSFT claimed passing 8 million a couple of months ago, like January. Better get your head out of Sony's ass once in a while if u wanna stay up to date.
And common sense and basic maths tell me that the PS3 is last and 8 million behind.

Sarcasm6146d ago

MS claims to be at 30 million while Sony claims to be at 24 million. Basic math tells me that it's not 8 million.

Common sense tells me that the 360 had one whole year of a head start in the US and a year and a half head start in Europe.

Let me guess, the PS3 is doomed!

rockleex6146d ago (Edited 6146d ago )

How many units of their consoles do Sony and Microsoft sell, on average, in a year?

9-10 million.

The 360 has a one year head start over the PS3. Which, normally, would result in one more year's worth of sales. Hence the 8 million lead.

Obviously. -_-"

It would be sad if they DIDN'T have one year's worth of sales lead on the PS3 even though they had a one year head-start.

morganfell6146d ago (Edited 6146d ago )

Now I know from where 2 of my disagrees came. First deadreckoning666 PMs me. It wasn't pleasant or informative so I block him. Then he continues in another PM under the name of plum30. Same guy, same 4th grade grammar and spelling. He just created the account. And we wonder who is ruining this site with multiple accounts.

IaMs126146d ago

Too be perfectly honest if they launched at the same time with all the stuff they have now, they would probably be pretty darn close. As someone stated the 1 year head start gained that 8 million lead. Therefore cut that out and they would be equal. They are pretty much the same. That head start got MS in the lead, no one is doubting that and they BOTH made stupid mistakes. And considering how MS RRoD they are doing extremely well for that hardware failure. You got to give them that. Imagine if they didnt have that failure, maybe they would have more first party studios.

cryymoar6146d ago

You want to add Sony's 10 year dominance?
Well you have to add Sony's 140Million dominance too, because those PS2's are still out there.

24Million + 140Million > 30Million

kunit22c6146d ago

Nobody even bring up the 360's sales because that doesn't mean its good, that just means there are quite a few morons in the world still buying that faulty crap.

commodore646145d ago (Edited 6145d ago )

IS a bit weird that all the hardcore ps3 fanboys jump up and down and proclaim " bu bu the ps3 launched one year later!"

It makes me wonder why it is considered ok for the ps2 to launch a year ahead of the xbox1 then?

..... Seems like a double standard?

But yeah... any excuse will do, right?

cryymoar6145d ago

the time difference between the PS2 and the xbox1 is so negligible!

xb360/PS3
30Million - 24Million = 6Million
Around the same amount of xb360's sold when it was ALONE in the next-gen market.

PS2/xbox
140Million - 30Million,
that's still 110Million units!
The launch time difference means NOTHING.

yeah it seems our little xbot journo has yet to face his demon 54.2% lol. he wreaks of so much BS/damage control, if he stands any closer to M$ we won't be able to see his head lol.

But fortunately I'm not. =D

Poor guy that wrote this article, he needs psychological & psychiatric therapy A.S.A.P

AngryTypingGuy6146d ago (Edited 6146d ago )

I guess you guys believe that 10% of PS3s fail too, making it an unreliable piece of hardware. I mean, after all, it's the same article, the same poll, right? I mean sure GI said that the numbers were inflated, but c'mon, they're convenient for you, so why not spew them! Who needs facts anyway?

yoghurt6146d ago

They ruled last gen (I hate that term), with PS2 selling 120 million or consoles.

We are talking about this gen, it has nothing to do with 1 year wiping off 10 years as its a different gen?! what are you even talking about. Read your comment before you click on 'add comment'

And the PS3 has had no 'downfall', this gen is only a baby, it is only 3 years in and so far is the fastest selling console apart from the Ps2 and Wii....

marcus j6146d ago

That is rather silly to hate on a company for selling a large amount of units.

n4gn4gn4gn4g6146d ago

Why is the '360 Looking Good' when less than 3 weeks ago you advised everyone to just buy a PS2?

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle51d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree57d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai57d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.
