This would be just as doable on the ps3 as the last Splinter cell 4 was, in other words, like yesterdays article said, "Not Doable" atleast not pretty anyways. Facts are facts. When a ps3 game comes out that even looks kind of next gen. theirs always a sacrifice to it somewhere to allow any good graphics to come through.

Look at every game and you'll see it, R-FOM, Motorstorm, Lair....they all suffer the same 3 things.

I am glad I didnt bash the PS3 yesterday about this. I only own 360 but I never did and still dont beleive you cant do any game on either console. It may look a little different but thats it. There arent that many game genre's and they are all being done on all consoles even ones from 2 generations ago. These articles are stupid.

splinter cell never was one of my fav games...probably it don't enter on my top 30...i've only played pandoras tommorrow and chaos theory...

What amazes me is that everytime something negative comes from the devs regarding the PS3, there's always some mysterious blogger or what have you running to the rescue for damage control. It's become very obvious in this generation that us gamers have the ball on our side of the court. When ever any news gets blown out of proportion, someone behind the scenes of these companies reads the forums like the daily newspaper, and they will do anything to convince us gamers that something was perhaps either translated wrong or re-word quotes entirely. If our opinion as gamers matter this much, then we need to focus most of that negative energy towards our favorite hardware companies, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony respectively. We need to express our anger more about why certain mediocre games make it to retail carrying the $59.99 price tag, why some games are released with so many bugs just because the devs were trying to target a release date, why some of the best games don't get well deserved sequels, why are so many games trying to look like another games art style instead of following the beat of its own drum. My whole point is if you own a 360, PS3, or Wii, then support that console by demanding the games that you want and stop all the flame wars about which console you next door neighbor has. Us 360 owners have Halo, Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, and a bunch of other titles that makes the Xbox community a home for its fans. The PS3 has God of War, the best Final Fantasies, Metal Gear games... so far, and they have become common place for the Sony community. And Nintendo has...er...well Nintendo has Mario starring in every genre there is except a first person shooter, but if that's what you like, I'm not mad at you. Well I'm sure you guys get my point. Splinter Cell Conviction is probably temporarily going to be an exclusive because the devs find the 360 hardware easy to develop for and that's just the way it is. Square gave us the left-overs of Final Fantasy online and thought it was worthy of next gen status. Now that's something to be mad about.

What is up with all the comparison crap on every game in every genre for 360 and PS3! We have SC5 versus MGS4, Halo versus Killzone, Forza versus GT, Home versus Live, Rumble versus motion, DVD9 versus BluRay, 1080p versus 720p, cell versus xenon, Hdmi versus Vga, FF versus Blue Dragon, Doa versus Vf versus Tekken, GEOW versus Resistance, 360 launch lineup versus PS3 launch lineup, and so on and so on! Will there ever be a day where we can just all be happy and enjoy games for what they are? Maybe we should make a day up called gamers love day once a year were we all just come out of the closet and say nice things to one another and throw like a big festival with Sony and MS fans holding hands or something and singing tunes from Halo and Metal gear!

If you read the first post it never sounded like be was trashng the PS3 all i got from it is that SC5 at its current design could not be done on the PS3. This is just PS damage controll. lol If it even trust worthy?. Hell most of the News i see on PS3 forums get their news from sites like this and often post only the pro Sony new even if its rubbish the and its posted as real news, really i'v seen plenty of Sony spite post from this site in PS3 forurms asreal news, do you actually think the Sony hype machine will allow statments like the one from the devs to exist.

Well I said it was all about marketing yesterday and although I never believed that SC: C couldn't be done on PS3....I still find this news just as comical, its a comment from someone on a "ps3forum" saying it was mis-translated, maybe it was and hopefully we will see a accurate translation from a source that's a tad bit more official....hell why not use one of the comments from the N4G post yesterday and post it as news and then the link doesn't really help at all, unless you read Finnish. -Then again, do we really need to hear anymore at all? -It was marketing plain and simple.....now you guys can stop bashing Ubisoft until of course AC is released with one pixel out of place on either version and the fanboys can go at it again.

^^^Thats not saying anything either way!; but he did say what they're doing on the 360 hardware is not acheivalbe on PS3. Could PS3 get the same results if built from the ground up, who knows?, I guess we can say this about this matter if switched around with a PS3 dev saying something like this about the 360.

I doubt it was because of lazy devs, Sure the Romans built wonderful structures and had grand Architecture but for somebody to say that moderen day construction workers and Architects are lazy, well thats funny(tools and ease of bulding with them/ materials/Hardware).

I don't see how LAIR couldn't be done on a 360. The 360 has proven already that it's capable of some pretty impressive stuff. I think showing flying dragons and huge waves in the ocean are within its capability.

I am not sure why some people are bashing the 360's graphics when compared to the PS3's especially when many of the multiplatform games look and run better on the 360 when put side by side.

I will admit that the PS3 on paper looks a bit more powerful that the 360 as far as specs go. However, specs aren't everything. The complexity in programming a game will always go a long way, and just about every developer whose comments I've read has said that the 360 is much easier to develop for. The proof is in the pudding, just look at the games so far.

The easiness of programming 360 games (especially because they're similar to a PC) makes making games for the 360 much more attractive for developers. The PS3 may surpass the 360 in terms of sales one day (then again, it may not), however in terms of game quality and the number of great games being available, the 360 will have the advantage in the coming years. In my humble opinion, that is.

I meant to comment on this earlier, but I couldn't log in. I kinda figured that it was a translation error. I doubt very much that it couldn't be done on PS3, but we have known for quite some time that the next installment of the Splinter Cell series was to be Xbox 360-only. 'Nuff said! Let the "rumor wagon" come to a screeching halt!

My opinion is that PS3 has a higher theoretical performance. That is, if you optimize it well enough to run at its highest potential, then you'll see games that look (or behave) better than the ones on 360.

But the 360 is a lot easier to program for, not only because of the tools, but also because of its architecture. Less cores, more common technology, unified RAM and shaders, also facilitate the development process. You'll also manage to do some things you can't do on PS3. BUT, there are more things you can do on PS3 that you can't do on 360, if you know how to use the Cell in combination with the RSX, if you know how to efficiently use the segregated pipelines and segregated RAM, plus it has Blu-ray which, if it is used the way it should, should get you much bigger games, levels, textures, sound, video, and so on; the hard drive should eliminate loading times. Plus, the hard drive and Blu-ray eliminate the eed to compress or to render things through procedural synthesis (to save disc space), and therefore saving processing time for other things, and therefore being able to take advantage of the cell on more things.

As you can see, both systems are great and you might see on 360 things you won't on PS3. And if Sony wants to with its first and second party studios (as they're doing), you'll see the PS3 do a lot more things that the 360 can't do (a lot more processing, perhaps better graphics if you focus the cell solely on graphics, better physics, AI (See: Edge), less loading times, more content).

Nobody will be left unsatisfied, and there's no question you're getting what you paid for with both consoles.

So the original article was right, ubisoft say sc5 not acheivable on ps3 at current state, meaning with all lighting effects as they are.

i never liked the SC series, so i dont care. they all suck

What is the purpose of this "NEWS"?
Of course everyone knows it's possible to do for PS3 ffs, but dev is not sure if it will ever happen. They started to make this game 2 years ago when PS3 was still under development. They would have to build the GAME from the scratch to make it as good for PS3. It is currently made totally xbox360 in mind and we all know PS3 is a totally different system.

I am not biased to any system, all 3 next gen systems are great. What you will see on PS3 is fair amount of "lazy ports" appearing and developers giving 360 exclusives because it is easier to develop for.

Game developers who put the time and effort in will, in time, release technically superior products. With the 6-axis, BluRay, and 60GB HDD they have a technically superior platform to work towards.

PS3 owners will just have to accept 360 will get alot of mainstream ports from PC either in better shape or exclusives.

However the future will be interesting for 360, with the decision to give the 360 userbase fragments specs i.e. optional HD-DVD, small HDD etc some developers will choose PS3 because of a stable base.

Bottom line is if PS3 and 360 don't intrigue opposite users than someone has gone wrong somewhere.

If the lighting couldn't be done on the PS3, then what does that mean? I have never seen a Splinter Cell game that a Playstation console could run the way the game is supposed to be run.

Looking at 'Lair' and then SC:Conviction and thinking that the later is not doable always made me laugh.

Resistance Fall of Man and Lair and MotorStorm didnt suffer nothing considering hes lieing and cant back his words up since hes an XBox 360 fan. and what did Resistance Fall of Man and Lair MotorStorm suffer from exactely when your not the one that made the PS3 or the hardware thats in it like the Cell or the graphics card XGamer.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
