It took me 2 days to download MGS2 for PC. And it doesn't work! I'll ready installed the damn patch but all I get is a black screen with sound.

I guess I'll have to buy the damn thing.

I believe it more if it was about new hardware or COTS software, but firmware updates? I'm thinking that's just GameStop trying to get more people to buy the system with a bit of a white lie.

I want more people with PS3 systems, but I don't want more people questioning why there isn't BC yet when it hasn't been promised and has in fact been mentioned as not happening.

It was already relatively known that a patch would be available in the future that would allow BC on the new Slim SKU.

Seriously who even doubts it? Oh I know who, the people who keep looking for things to complain about giving the recent surge of massive PS3 sales increases and ever increasing momentum for the PS3.

just a few hours on a couple games. but, i finally picked up gow2 on a target run and plan to use the hell out of it for the next few days...

The PS2 still brings Sony in some money, so why should they roll out FREE BC when they can still get people to buy the console? Just makes business sense.
Once the PS2 is officially discontinued, THEN we'll see BC on the PS3.

Hope this is true, but I'm not holding my breath. If true I hope the update works with older PS3's. And yes, I would even be willing to pay for that feature if they released the b/c on the store (though it SHOULD be free)

The reason people want it is to be able to use 1 console for the games, rather than 2. That's what I would prefer when I get a ps3.

I'd pay on PSn store for a one time downloaded emu that will allow me to run my collection of PS2 games on my ps3. But the main problem is atm Sony are still marketing the PS2 it is releasing new titles and it still expects it to shift units. Until the PS2 dies out i can't see the emulator coming. Id say its another year are two down the line. But I'm sure it will be coming it makes good business sense. Till then im boxing my PS2 collection of out of the way and safe. My old ps2 disk drive has finally give up the ghost after 7 years, Poor bugger i played the life outta it :)

I believe the reason they removed the original backwards compatibility is because it was expensive. but in Europe the backwards compatibility was software based.

I believe Sony at the time removed software and hardware backwards compatibility because the PS2 was still out selling the PS3.

But if the re-launch of the PS3 and PSN is very successful (which it will be) they will probably release a update or compatibility software on the PSN.

Sony is probably going to charge you some money to get it from the PSN Store.

The old models you have to download a software for PS2 games, won't be a shock if they do it for the Slim or just make PS2 games downloadable, I play my old Playstation games on my PS3 an own some that are on PSN.

So if they do this, then I be buying them off the PSN or buying the games again, had to sell all 150 of my games after my PS2 got fired from a thunder storm and it was the 1st model to -_- an no I didn't just buy a PS2 slim, I didn't care for them at all with their led top.

If Sony does this "Cool" if not then people can get a cheap PS2, I own a Wii but I play my NES games an the NES games I got on my Wii. I guess I means I got the money to do it I guess.

I hope this is true. I'm planning on getting a Slim and I've really been wanting to play some PS2 titles like Shadow of the Colossus and The Getaway and hell, maybe I'll give the Metal Gear Solid series another chance. Truth is, Sony has created a wonderful library of games with the PS1 and PS2. I really think it would be the dumbest and most heartbreaking thing if all of those games were lost in time due to an architecture difference.

Now that Jim Ryan is gone just need to remove Herman Hulst from his position! And maybe give Shuhei the position he deserved.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
