Mass Effect 2 Is So Hot It's Smokin'

Just wondering why these morons are in here discussing what system is more powerful. If they clearly read the article, they would have seen that they were referring to the Kiosk 360 overheating. Please explain to me how can SOFTWARE cause HARDWARE to overheat? Disc revolutions, drive or read speeds don't change depending on games...so why do PS3 idiots think that the PS3 wont overheat in enclosed environments. I put my PS3 in a media cabinet without more than 2 vent holes and it sounded like a helicopter. It now sits on top of the cabinet for better ventilation because I refuse to buy a small fan to keep it cool. Any electronic component that is operating w/o proper ventilation will malfunction over time....EVEN THE PS3, you fanboys

I can't stand with the spins of the xbots at this subject. How can you tell this game is exploiting the console at max if this occurs? Better say this hardware is sh!t and that's because it can't support running at max rendiment during a long time period.

If you are players PC, you know that hardware is pushing to the max everytime you play a game. And you know what? If a PC burns on a max rendiment you will say your PC is'nt well ventilated or something, because it's not normal that your PC hangs up by the temperature. Well, that's exactly the same subject here: the problem with the XBOX360 overheating it's not that the game makes suffer the console too much, the problem is that the hardware itself it's not well designed and is poor ventilated. That's all. And that's exactly the reason because it never gonna be a XBOx360 Slim... and that's why it has a 50% failure ratio too.

OK Xbox has some issues but none that will not be overcome, I remmember Sony Play station has/had its issues back in the day about units burning up and people still purchased the unit( how soon we forget).The Xbox is still a baby compared to how long Sony has been making consoles so yes there is still some growing room needed but with all the problems xbox still keeps selling and strong, that means its here to stay and can only get better. I have had problems with Sony products Hell I purchased a 52" Sony Bravia 4 and within a week it had 3 lines running north to south on the screen and this was a 5k dollar tv at the time, I also had a $400 200 disc player by sony that flaked out after about 1 year, so I guess my point is we will keep buying Sony and keep buying Xbox no matter what.

The 3-fix-me strikes again! Just goes to show that the hardware is not worthy of the software. But who cares, most people were going to get ME2 on PC anyhow. The inventory system on ME1 was just god awful on the 360 but the PC version didn't have that problem. If you've got a good PC, then you don't need a 360.

The message says that the consoles running in the ME2 demo area are overheating, not that the demo is causing overheating. The damn console is put in a plastic case and is turned on for about 12 hours or so.

A room full of retards who don't take a minute to realize what foolish assumptions they are making form a very misleading article. How did this flame-bait article even get approved? Children are so very quick to slam the "other" system.

Its not the game itself little children...it's not installing the games and the plexiglas/other enclosures that suffocates and overheats systems...since the very beginning. Why they continue to do this is beyond me. Morons I suppose. I've had my system for over two years and had endless 12 hr+ marathons without any problems whatsoever. Why? because I keep it horizontal...slightly elevated to ensure max air flow through all air ports...clean from dust accumulation...and I install all my games to reduce wear and tear and HEAT. We all know this system is finicky with heat. Ever take a disc out after play that wasn't installed? Its HOT...so what does that tell you? The obvious and intelligent thing to do is to install, but it seems a lot of gamers aren't too bright. My system is cool as ever even after 12+hours. All my friends who have had one longer than myself who treat it just as thoughtfully as I do...no problems. My friends that don't, have had the RROD. Pretty fvcking simple no? All these people who are having RROD clearly aren't considering the proper treatment of their delicate systems. No game by itself is going to overheat a system, just tards who can't/don't think about what they can do to prevent it.

I love seeing RROD pictures of systems sitting on the carpet, or surrounded by enclosures covered in dust, or surrounded by stuffy amps and dvd players etc...followed with whining captions blaming Microsoft for their RROD and 'sh!tty' customer service. Morons that are too useless/lazy to fix their RROD issues themselves. Get a new system and they treat it the exact same way as before. Brilliant.

This isn't a rare thing in gaming on any platform. When developers have early builds they're completely unoptimised and therefore pull alot from the system, be it 360, ps3, wii or some pc's

Today i was there and have played the Demo. Besides that it was absolutly awesome, i think it was not the Game that have causes the collapse. In the small Room where Mass Effect 2 was playable, there was about 42° C / 107° Fahrenheit and no sign of any Ventilation...

They may have to gimpd the 360 version even more .

I'm sure there were many factors in the overheating. Even my PS3 gets warm. Never bricked, though... But still. The thing can get pretty friggin hot (20 gig model/160gig hdd).

I'm hoping that picture isn't really the result of what happens to a 360 when running ME2. I would hate to have to play the game halfway thru just to get smoke coming out of my system and a potential fire.

I wouldn't interpret this as 360 consoles overheating, simply because

1) The use of the "Danger Will Robinsson!" catchphrase. If the consoles were actually to suffer hardware failure because of the demo, wouldn't Bioware have stated this in a more serious manner?

2) At one of the biggest games event of the year, would a manufacturer creating an exclusive game for a specific console actually point out that their game and the hardware are a bad match, and only with a 14 word sentence to shed some light on such a pressing issue?

3) It is either a pun at the 360s history of hardware failures or a pun that was missinterpreted/badly phrased.

4) Looking at another post on the Bioware blog

The overheating statement may simply refer to that many people visited their stand, the heat was generated form many switched on console or perhaps that people enjoyed the game ie "It was hot, on fire, yada yada". Nothing is really indicating hardware failure except for the added pictures on the second source that are not present in the original article, thus out of context. Or am I wrong?

First thing;
MS has already admitted (more or less) to a 54% failure rate with first gen consoles. It was also rumored that MS knew about these defects before shipping in 05', but shipped anyhow. The original cause was not overheating due to bad treatment or poor choice of the placement of the console, it was the components that caused the RROD scenario. MS developed the GPU and CPU on their own without consulting the developers and as a result the components created too much heat causing the system to crash (RROD)!
Secondly;
My 360 RROD'ed the second time I ever turned it on! It was in a wide open area on my TV stand, had plenty of room to breathe et cetera, et cetera, et cetera!!!!! So no, it did overheat on it's own without any help from anyone, contrary to popular belief. So the verdict is they (MS) sold defective products, possibly with prior knowledge, to an unsuspecting public. And yes blame rests squarely with MS not any of their consumers, including those like myself who have purchased multiple XBOX 360's. I rest my case boo-yow!!!!
