Everyone knew the slim was coming but a universal ps3 price shocked me.

The Firmware 3.0 looks good too i like the animated themes

However the final blow will be when the PS3 will be at 199. This is huge though. I never expected the slim to launch at 299 at the same price as the fat. Sony will have a hard time trying to sell the remaining fat.

@Damon500. Free online play for silver account xboxlive is not big as this news. The main reason why xbox owners pay for live is becuase of the added features on top of online play.

Well, it looks like I'll be getting a second PS3. I've never owned a Slimmed down version of a Playstation console (I've only owned the Original versions) so I'm pretty excited about it.

If Microsoft is still going to sell the Elite 360 for $299, they need to throw in the overpriced Wifi adapter for free or something, because I'm pretty sure that all PS3 Slim models will have it standard.

Considering everything you get out of the box with a PS3, $299 is a STEAL. All I want now is some specs and more photos of it.

There was no announcement of a UK price drop as far as I'm aware. Please Sony don't let the UK be screwed with goods again, I've been waiting for the price cut for so long!

I'm not the world's biggest FPS fan - I have no interest in MAG, KZ, etc. What else is there? I still think I'd get a multi platform game for the 360, so what exclusives make this worth it for me?

What will MS have to counter? A $299 120gb hd cable less elite 360? Not much to counter there as the ps3 still has the blu and wifi (?) built in.

360 needs to lower to $249 on the elite to counter or make the arcade the new PRO with a 60gb hdd for $199 or lower.

I think if you swapped the new ps3 HDD with the old PS3 HDD you would be gtg. Just back up your ps3 on an external HDD before doing it just in case.

"Copy Data" its not so easy. Locked saves can't be copied (KZ2 among those). Swapping HDD doesn't work either. Those saves are locked to the machine. Also, swapping a HDD might make you reinstall/reformat the HDD. I took my 320G from my 60G PS3 and put it into a brand new 80G (both same FW version). I had to re-initialze the HDD and reinstall the FW update on the 80G (I had a backup made first - Got "incompatible FW" error on the 80). I am pretty sure, this same applies to the Slim (complete new HW revision). So, be careful what you do if you swap the HDD or copy the saves.

You MUST backup your PS3s HDD to an external device. Even those copy protected games saves can be copied now.

Trophy collections are saved to your online profile, not the HDD so you won't loose them no matter what.

Use the PS3s backup utility and an external HDD or a large memory device if you can. You choose which things you're backing up.

My only gripe with this new PS3 Slim and its new price point is the fact that something has to be missing from the original PS3 for it to be at that new price point. It's very hard for me to believe that it has the same exact specs and gadgets of the first one with a different price point. I don't think the body work of the old PS3 and two extra usb ports in the front could be worth 100 dollars.

@FamilyGuy (copy saves). A bit late, but I wanted to add, even if you do a backup of your locked saves, the restore will not restore those to a different machine. Even when you use the same account. Be careful with that.

I what a video showing that they had fixed that issue, noting SFIV, BUT I'll trust your call as I've never done it myself. No worries about it for me though, My 80Gb HDD is enough since I have a 1Tb external for all media related things.

It would only hurt if i planned to upgrade or my PS3 died on me.

What's beautiful is that it's also 120gb and still has wi-fi and of course blu-ray. It's still a PS3 in all respects!

I said I do not think a price cut is going to get Sony out of last place, and I am wondering why anyone who already has a PS3 would be excited about a price cut. Some of these guys are saying they are going to go pick up another PS3. Is that logical? Second. I had a PS3. I sold it. However, the PS3 has come a long way since 2006, and with this new price cut and God of War 3 and Heavy Rain on the way I'm considering picking up another one. So my posting here is relevant.

Lol. No they haven't. Sony is in last place in the console war but by all means, keep thinking Sony has won if that makes you sleep better at night time my little droid. Sony obviously had to take away some of the more expensive features like the Touch Sensitive Eject and Reset Button; Of course it's going to be cheaper if they decide to do something like that, however things like that come with a price:

* Sony will lose billions again due to the giant pricing imbalance, allowing the PlayStation 3 to fail even more and lag behind the Xbox 360 and Wii.

* Have a smaller and uglier PlayStation 3 console which is steps back from the orginal. Ask yourself, Who is going to want that?

In conclusion the Xbox 360 has had two price drops recently, obtained amazing arcade and full game exclusives and Project Natal which may be coming this Christmas; thus why more people are leaning towards the Xbox 360 more than the Playstation 3. Sony's going to lose and they know it, what they have just done a desperation move and it's just a matter of time before Sony Computer Entertainment falls. You've been nice Playstation and you were one of the best but it's time for the Xbox 360 to take the crown.
