It hasn't been released yet - here in the west. It has been out in Asia for over 8 months though, and has sold like hotcakes. 3.5 million subscribers isn't to be sniffed at.

Also, over 3 million hours have been logged on the western closed beta at last count, I expect it's way over that now since this last session. I think that's enough time for people to get a fair idea of the game and comment on it.

The hype is worth it IMO.

Then it`s overzealous, still makes no sense in my mind to say that something you don`t like is over-rated.

It's not that I don't like it, I don't mind it, I just don't think it's OMG BEST THING EVAR!!

Think of it this way: Your mates all love this one band, they keep raving over and over how amazing they are. You eventually get round to listening to their stuff and think "meh." It's not bad, it's not great. So you think: It was over-rated.

From what I read, and seen I think people are over-rating the game. Plain, simple. Nothing bad, just not amazing for me.

FFXIV though... ;) Different styles for different people. I bet you'll say that the hype for the new Final Fantasy is all pish, if you aren't a fan. IIRC some reviewers even call FFVII the most over-rated game ever. IMO it lives up to that rep.

It is already highly successful in the East and will find a decent market share here too. It may not "dominate" the MMO market, but I'm fairly certian it will fare better than AOC or WAR.

Those games were hyped to Hell and well in shambles before they even launched. I finally quit WAR as one year and dozens of patches later they STILL haven't fixed the mass pvp issue. Said "issue" defined as the slideshow that your state of the art computer does when playing realm vs. realm combat. I have no problem in any other MMO or high performance game and a dedicated line-in cable internet connection, it's simply a poorly coded mess). AOC is too flawed to encapsulate here in a couple of sentences, so I'll just leave it at that.

Aion is the most polished release I've seen for an MMO in a very long while. In fact, if their launch goes off without server Armageddon, it could be the most polished release EVER.

Very excited to play this game. It's gorgeous, the combat is intuitive and fun and the customization options are unlike anything on the market. You can create your own custom armor sets for Chrissakes. There are thousands of different face and body options for you toon. YOU CAN FLOAT IN THE SKY WHILE RAINING FIERY DEATH (I always play a mage toon) ON PEOPLE! What else does it take to impress? We truly are a jaded, spoiled generation it seems.

P.S. Dorjan, how much of the beta have you actually played? Did you ascend to a Deva? Because if you're basing your enjoyment of the game on the first 10 levels, you have no clue what the game is actually like. I've been in 2 of the beta cycles now, and as a long time MOORPG gamer, I have to admit that it's mightily impressive. It's fairly original for a fantasy setting (no elves, orcs, dwarves nonsense) and it is simply a really well made game.

Edit: Careful reading is key. You don't need to get so defensive. I never called YOU spoiled, I was making a sweeping gereralization that did not specifically include your name in the mix. Moreover it was addressed towards the general mass of gamers who are filled with enui, who are never impressed and constantly criticize though we live in an age that as so much variety and choice that we really have no reason not to be. Whether or not you lump yourself in with that sector is your decision.

I said "WE". So even if you want to personalize the remark, that groups all gamers in with the comment, which is clearly not how it was intended. Chill out.

And again, have you played a toon beyond level 10? Because if not, you haven't played enough of the game to have a substantial opinion of it.

Spoilt? Just because I don't like the way Aion is or the play style I become spoilt? At least Montrealien replies were on target.

I agree with your points on AoC and WAR and they didn't live up to their hype. I played AoC and the buggy POS that was and the lack of content AND the bad reaction from funcom just .. well, it speaks for itself.

In Aion you can't swim, if you go underwater you just stand there and take damage. Your avatar doesn't even react to it, it's just a soild sprite that doesn't know it's drowning... how sad.

The combat animations (for me) were un-fluid, but that is JUST ME. Others say it is great watching the same thing as me at the same PC.

Just becasue my taste is different you can't call me out from being apart of a jaded, spoiled generation for having that. I never said it was bad, just not as good as I hear from people. (It's not perfect but nothing is and it IS a massive step up from a lot of MMOs out there).
