I'm a gamer for life, and am interested in pursuing a career as a game designer. I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

I think that after so many years of gaming there is a little fatigue factor that sets in. You realise alot of the games are similar with a surprisingly innovative coming out every once in awhile. Of course as you get older other hobbies as well as responsibilities take precedence. There have been years where I only bought a few games a year. I slowed down gaming between the end of the PS1 and beginning of the PS2 era. Have been back into gaming not only for this gen but also for the games I missed previous gens. Guess, like most things interests will ebb and flow but one always finds time for things they like. the same way I'll always watch movies is the same way I'll always game. Maybe not as much as before when I was a kid but it's still a good hobby to me and don't see that changing.

Hehe..From the row of quarters atop the Defender and Mario brothers acrade game at the local 7-11 in the mid 80s to typing this comment as my 11 year old daughter is in my "game room" loving every minute of Little Big Planet.

I'm what you would call a "mature" gamer. I've always had a interest in video games and I've been fortunate to have owned a majority of the major consoles including the 2600, Colecovision, 3DO, Sega Genesis, Nintendo (NES & Super) Playstation, and XBOX. I currently own a PS3 and a XBOX 360. Although I have enjoyed playing on the current generation of consoles I do feel that the experience is becoming a bit stale. There are so few games that engage me the same way as some of the past classics. Perhaps that is due to the fact that many of todays "new" releases are either direct sequels or just retreads of of original properties. I appreciate the updated graphics and realism of todays games but I would prefer that he developers spend more time on creating a compelling experience. Occasionally there will be a game released that is unique enough to capture my interest but those seem to be few and far between. I currently have 6 games which were purchased over that past year that have yet to be opened. I'm not excatly sure if I will ever become motivated enough to play them.

I'm on a break, still looking for that job 12th place is the charm.

and finally halo3 but after all that including about 3 months of halo i started to get bored of the games idk why ...so i thought maybe im just getting to old for games. so i stopped gaming for a while i started to take other interests then my friend bought over his ps3 i played resistance demo and the warhawk demo and i was like how is this demo more fun than the fullgame of halo3? and then it hit me i use to own a ps1 and2 its like i forgot how much fun playstation games was so now im gaming again but only sony = )

any real gamers are gonna game till they die. they might not be has hardcore as they once were when they were younger but they will always have the latest console,at least one of them. why would we give up how good looking games are getn,that would be mental.

I can't game like I did when i was young because of the increase in responsibilities. Once you get a job, move out of your parents house, get married, have a child, etc then you just don't have the same amount of 'free' time for games.

I used to play a lot of games with friends on the weekends in university compared to now. I sometimes go a whole month without any free time to play a game. I come back from work late, spend some time with my wife and daughter then go to sleep. Next day repeat the same till the weekend. Since I work half days on Saturdays too, I end up just wanting to take a nap on Saturday afternoon and depending on whether I have any friends events or functions I might end up with no time on Saturday. Followed by more stuff to do or functions to attend on Sunday. However, the few weekends where I'm free Saturday and Sunday. I attempt to play for a couple of hours straight at a go to catch up.

Don't get me wrong, I love playing videogames and admire the way they have matured as I've grown older but as someone mentioned earlier there are some games which show their simplicity (movie tie-ins are a prime example) that I stay completely away from. I really enjoy the new style of games that make it seem like you are playing in a movie like: Uncharted (best adventure movie like experience of any game to date), Metal Gear Solid 4 (best stealth/action movie like experience), Gears of War 1 (best sci fi action movie like experience) and Call of Duty 4 (Best war/shoot action movie like experience). GT5 prologue also needs a mention for the best looking and simulation type car game since....well.. the previous GTs.

I'm really looking forward to playing, Uncharted 2, GT5, GT5 PSP, Heavy Rain, Allan Wake, Call of Duty MW2, Gear of War 3 when they all come out. Though I'm a bit worried that Call of Duty MW2 will be more of the same. Killzone 2introduced a new kind of shooting intensity that has raised the bar real high. Even going back to play COD MW1, I could really see the difference in the experience.

All in all if you really love games you just have to make some little time, no matter how little, to enjoy them.

One interesting thing I've noticed is that I have more PS2 games than PS1 games and even more PS3 games than PS2 games. This is the result of more disposable income and more quality games, even though I have less time to play.

i find as i've gotten older (i just turned 45) that i have many interests besides gaming (not to mention my career). i still play at least an hour a day (more when i'm in the middle of a new game) and when new games come out(that i want) i usually find a weekend day to play 6-8 hours......although my girlfriend bugs me about this! she's a psychiatrist too and feels games are NOT a healthy outlet. (i DISAGREE with this!)

i'd buy a 360 but i just don't have the time to play more than i am now.

this may be my last round as far as gaming goes. i don't like the trend towards online gaming. i've done it; but, i've encountered too many idiots online. probably just my perspective due to age differences. i like a SP/CO-OP game with a good story (and standard controller!). racing, puzzle, or "arcade style" games are fun too. if devs give up on these types of games (in favor of mindless online shooters) or make all games using a motion controller......i'll be done gaming.

and this is just my views.....they are not meant to insult those who feel differently.

I'm married with a child, work hard all day, when i get home at 6:30 p.m. i try to divide the time to play (one or two hours a day) is some kind of hard not to pay any attention to your family. Video games for me are relax from an exhaust day, when i go online playing TF2, CoD4, CodWW,CoH then i fill good. I'm a PC gamer.

I can easily relate to this article. There was a time when I was, in fact, a lapse gamer. College was becoming time consuming, and there was not much games, at the time, worth getting into. It was not until the Nintendo Wii that I finally got that sense of gaming back, and of course, this led to me purchasing a PS3 as well.

There are time when gaming takes a back seat in our lives, but the point is that it usually something we always get around to again as gamers. That's what I think makes video games special. I can proudly say that, as of this post, I still play video games as a fun hobby.

For me it's just severe lack of excitement. My first gaming system was Pong when it was new! Then the Atari 2600's, intellivisions and Coleco's. From there to PC gaming and of course going through the consoles from nintendo to 3D0 to playstation etc. etc.

For me, I would have to say the burn comes from severe lack of originality.

FPS's? Been there done that. Shoot, Kill, Win, Game Over. From Wolfenstein and Doom 1 to Halo's, Crysis and Rainbow 6's, I've killed.

Driving? Raced 'em all, zoom zoom, oh boy another car game *Bleh*

RTS? Warcraft to C&C to blah blah blah... NEXT! *zug zug!*

MMO's? How many times in how many games can I mine the same damned rock???? Yes, having played them all since the inception of UO I can say with a high measure of experience that WoW IS for candyasses - Go play Darkfall Online & see how long ya last! ;)

To me, once you've finally played enough games you just get real sick of doing the "same old thing" and it really takes some originality to win my money. Most games I see turn out now are just the same tired old games that I've already beaten a hundred times. They're just wrapped in better packaging with different graphics and less clothing but it's still the same game.

I don't think "real gamers" ever really stop playing, our tastes just become more refined over the years. I was there for Final Fantasy I and hopefully I'll still be alive and kicking for Final Fantasy XXVII ;)
