Hmm...they're probably talking about that thing that we heard some time ago about someone from the Phillipiens (sp?) actually having the system or something.

This doesn't mean that the PS3 slim as a concept is a fake, just that whatever these people claimed to BE the PS3 slim was fake (which isn't news because we were already aware of that a month ago).

EDIT: I just read that original post on Gamespot (whose forum users have been known to not be PS3 friendly at ALL, and their mods seem to really be biased against PS3 users, too), and that guy seems to be basing this all on just things he "knows". He gives no concrete evidence to support this, and it's just a theory that he's trying to pass off as fact. It may or may not be correct, but this guy that posted this to Gamespot (which has had a TON of people posting fake stories before) doesn't really show anything to say that there is any validity to his story, and then saying "no, it's not going to happen or never has happened", even though we have heard other stories that may validate that the rumor is true, and keep in mind that this guy, not ONCE, said that he had any word from Sony concerning this or had ever contacted them.

Oh, and this guy hasn't surfaced on GS since 06, according to what his profile says. Makes me wonder about his cred.

EDIT@A HiFi: Well, like I said, there are holes in this guy's story too. I'm not going to say that it is or isn't true for either thing, but I know people are going to blindly believe THIS guy's story without thinking and looking at what he's saying and looking that he's not showing any actual evidence to his claims (probably because they want to say "I told you so" to those that are confident about it being true).

That and even if everything he said was true and he got lucky (which I doubt), it would only be in the concept that WE believe, and Sony may be planning it, but it will be something completely different.

MY problem is that he doesn't show any clear evidence, and that he's passing his theory off (yes, it's a THEORY at this point) as fact, and acting as though he knows some inside info when it's more or less clear he doesn't.

At Gamescon (or TGS, assuming it will drop there), if Sony announces this, then this guy is going to look like a FOOL!

But then again, this guy could just be doing Sony's work for them by trying to kill the rumor and throw off everyone before Gamescon, too. Just saying, be careful here!

I always thought it was too soon to have a PS3 slim. It hasn't even been out for a full 3 years yet. Don't they release a slim version about 4 or 5 years into the life of the system?

I find it funny the site says these rumors and fake concept may have inspired the real deal. I also find it interesting that these anonymous chinese guys had the free time to use tools to create a fake concept, and thought it'd be very smart to sell something like this on eBay. Do they seriously think people would purchase a fake PS3 slim on eBay -a machine that magically appears on the internet with little confirmation of production from Sony - and expect to get away with it w/o getting screwed up the butthole later?

i firmly believe slim is real - i am not however saying that any particular picture(s) we have seen are the correct item or that it will be announced as soon as gamescom.

sony cannot announce that a slimmer, cheaper model will "be out soon" as sales of the current model will stop completely.

i believe a lot of this mystery leaking hype train may however be deliberate - a viral marketing campaign which is working VERY well. the uninformed are still buying the old model - the enthusiasts are all "OMG I CAN'T WAIT"

i firmly believe ps3 sales will go through the roof with this, the price will be right for the first time for many (even if it means a FURTHER reduced PHAT model)- the ps2 crowd that haven't moved forward yet. many 360ers will not be able to resist the urge with the games line up, especially those that have suffered too many RRODS and are at the end of their tether with microsoft.

once the install base jumps like this (which it really will), u will see an exponential growth of confidence in the ps3 brand in the US again.

Smaller versions of something rarely cost less than regular size. I dunno what to think about the slim, I think it's coming, but not with the price cut to $300. I could be wrong, but it doesn't affect me either way, I love my regular ps3 :) yay

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
