Agent concept is older than the PS3

Nick @ PS3Center writes:

Apparently, the game was bounced around for years internally over at RockStar. It wasn't until earlier this year, though, that Rockstar pitched the idea to Sony execs, who loved the idea behind it and decided to make it a PS3 exclusive.

Sounds like the concept is well thought out then... but if they just started developing it, that probably means we won't see it 'til 2011-2012 at the earliest...

Im actually glad Sony decided to dev. a new exclusive w/ Rockstar instead of paying for GTA to be exclusive, this game sounds more exciting to me.

And lets be honest, this is Rockstar North we're talking about, one of the better devs. making games today. I expect nothing short of GTA quality, probably better.

I'm pretty sure it will come out either at the end of 2010 or the spring in 2011.

gaffyh6130d ago

I'm guessin the game will be out in late 2011 at the latest.

talltony6130d ago (Edited 6130d ago )

It wasn't earlier this year because we knew about it in 2008. Didn't we?

StanLee6130d ago

How is this in anyway a possitive? It seems to me internally Rockstar didn't have enough confidence in the title to throw their own money behind. It seems to me what Sony is investing in is Rockstar North's reputation rather than the game's premise and concept because the concept is pretty "meh" to me.

when you have no idea about business !

Do you think you know better than Rockstar ??? bunch of genius guys

Or

See what happened to Xbox 360... Microsoft released it too early and we still hear about 3RROD

Am I the only one that just doesn't think this game sounds all that interesting? 70's secret agents is just... blah, reminds me of Charlie's Angels or something.

OhReginald6130d ago

70s is a GREAT time period for a spy game since it takes place during the darkest times of the cold war.

akiraburn6130d ago

Both of the No One Lives Forever games were set close to that time period as well. Roughly late 1960's, FPS/Spy-adventure with a slight touch of RPG, and those games were awesome. I think Agent has the potential to be really amazing, both because of the team working on it, and the premise of the game (especially because they are trying something outside their normal genres), and overall I look forward to seeing more from it. Right now though, no one can really say anything for certain since we only have the very basic premise of the game to go on, no screens, no videos, and nothing more on than the basic idea of it.

darkknight09966130d ago

Charlie's Angels? WTF
if they do it like what you it will fail but I think the do it with in mind CIA , KJP and the cold war. withe some cities in Euorp in the 70s

beavis4play6130d ago

and the cold war was in "full swing" during the 70's.

it seems like a "can't miss" concept to me.

Hopefully Agent turns out to be a great franchise like GTA

grantps36130d ago

hopefully better than GTA4

i just hope it has a good story line, in addition to great gameplay.

gta sucks imo because of the horrible story line.

i hope this is released soon. it;s already too late i guess but the more time they take, the more fun it's gonna be.

Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser explains why open world spy game Agent never worked out

A rare interview from the former GTA and Red Dead Redemption writer and executive producer.

dveio205d ago

Interesting to know.

Among MGS4, Agent was the reason I wanted and bought a PS3. (Who knew we would get other gems like Killzone 2 and TLoU.)

I always assumed it got cancelled due to hardware restrictions even at that time.

Deeeeznuuuts205d ago

Such a shame, I remember first reading about it in official playstation magazine, Agent and The Getaway are the two cancelled games I wish I could play 😩

Christopher204d ago

Because it had to be open world, of course. Couldn't change that and make the Agent game work otherwise. Totally buying it.

Redgrave204d ago

I used to laugh whenever I'd see someone cite Agent as a game to look forward to, because it was never officially canceled (at least, as far as I've seen.)

"It's still real to me, dammit!"

Cancelled Games That Still Upsetti My Spaghetti

As a wise man once said: what be will, be will, and sometimes games just get canceled, whether it’s due to publisher meddling, a lack of funds or the creative vision simply not panning out.

Eight Days for me

Really would have enjoyed a buddy cop game with a Lethal Weapon like tone.

helicoptergirl498d ago

The only one that really bothered me was when Sony wouldn't fund Days Gone 2. That announcement made me literally feel nauseous. I felt sick in the guts. That's the first time Sony had done something that actually physically hurt me lol. I'm still bummed that there won't be a Days Gone 2.

lucasnooker448d ago

I would have loved the getaway 3! The original is still one of my favourite PS2 titles
