Nintendo Dpad:
"We often reminisce here about the yesteryears of Nintendo and gaming in general. There are many things we'd like to see come back into gaming in this generation from a greater increase in secrets and unlockables to the return of "old school challenge." When we begin to think of the latter however, we can't help but wonder: Do we really want harder games?"

The Wii is now a retro console. Let’s get nostalgic about an often maligned system.
Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.
My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.
Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.
Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

It's important in life to maintain a broad palette when it comes to culture and the arts. Hideo Kojima agrees, as he continues to use video games like Death Stranding to introduce people to music and other elements they might not otherwise discover.

Mojang has partnered with Merlin Entertainments to build the world's first Minecraft theme park in the UK.
I say bring on the pain. Megaman 9 was by far the hardest game I have played this gen. We need more games like that. I get tired of regenerative health and aim assist.
Give me the 3 lives and I'm out...obviously to the games where that could apply.
A 20 hour game full of exploration is a different story and difficulty like Contra is nto needed imo.
Mile High Club on veteran.
That sorts the men from the boys.
It would be interesting to see if a game as hard as say, Ghost N Goblins, sold more or less depending on its difficulty.
Remember when there wasn't even a difficulty setting?
"Very Hard"? No. That's for weaklings. Give me the "What killed the dinosaurs" difficulty
Well we can say that the games overall did shift from a 3 life survive or you die and have to start again strategy to an entertaiment interactive movielike experience. Its all about the story and you can start over and over again, you're just warped back to the latest 'savechamber', regenerating place you come back to life again for another try.
These days its all about experiencing the story and making it to the end. But hey, all in its specific time that fits I'd say. I enjoy todays games, although its also nice to run one of the old games on my PSP or Wii emulators for all my old consoles.
Its something like the question:
do we really want back 2D only gaming? It fits perfectly in those past gens, then 3D was explored, first with a not so great result, but they improved over time and its great nowadays. Question is more: where are we going next?
