My fellow gamers in the UK. I totally agree with "TheHater", if Activision Blizzard can increase prices in Europe and see no loss in sales then what would stop them from increasing prices in America. If this were to happen this would affect gamers the world over. I will give you a quick example. In the US a new game will generally retail for 60 USD while in Europe it can range from 30 the 50 pounds. Now in Barbados (which is in the Caribbean for those that may be unaware)a new game retails from between 90 - 100 USD. If you were curious about consoles I'll give you a breakdown

Nintendo Wii - 250 USD in US vs 500 USD in Barbados
Xbox360 Elite - 399 USD in US vs 899 USD in Barbados
PS3 80 GB -399 USD in US vs 949.5 USD in Barbados

It's kind of hard. Kotick is a douche but Infinity Ward isn't doing this. I don't boycott companies just because they are run by douches. More often than not, it takes a douche to run a company. I'm not gonna get this game, but I know a lot of people who are. You can imagine how little the boycott is going to impact the sales. Even if 50,000 people boycott it I can see 4 million people who will buy it the first week.

Most games I get on day one are £37.97, I will not be buying MW2 but i will buy MAG for £34.99 of amazon and uncharted £31.99 from tesco's.

Let's see, if a large portion of the nation of Israel boycott due to Ahmadinejad's 'questionable' election and it did nothing, how well will a boycott of a game by a few thousand gamers do towards stopping Activision from raising prices and charging an arm and a leg for crappy DLC?

Boycotting is only part of the answer. You have to fully support all of Activision's competitors to a degree that even the people who don't boycott Activision end up buying their competitor's software. You have to get the people who don't care to work for you.

And, honestly, we're gamers, we're not going to get organized about squat considering half of us are still b*tching about which console is the bestest on the market.

Well if gamers don't show that they won't put up with being scammed then it will just keep happening! What better way to show you won't allow yourself to get ripped off then by joining a boycott of the biggest game of 2009!

The whole reason they are using MW2 to push prices up is because they know its wanted by so many people. They figure the best way to drive all the prices up and raise the bar and expectations for pricing, is to get people to accept it by pushing it on a "must have" game. Once something is accepted it will just continue down the same route.

What better way for gamers to show that they will not fall for such a cheap and obvious tactic then by boycotting the very game that everyone expects to sell so well.
Trust me, if MW2 isn't selling well in the first 2 weeks of release then it will soon drop in price. So at least consider buying a couple of other games when MW2 comes out to keep yourselves occupied for a bit, I'm sure games like Uncharted 2 can keep you occupied for a wee while.

It also has to be noted that one of the reasons so many games that were due to come out around the same time got pushed back, is exactly for that reason that all game publishers will profit from Activision pumping the prices up. If they get away with it then so will everyone else, so they thinned out the large selection of games that would have been available at the same time to help ensure the successful sales figures of an overpriced game.

I don't expect a boycott will happen as people rarely take a stand and do the sensible thing that will help them in the long run.
Ultimately people find it hard to stick together and wait for something they want.

Think about it though, if enough people do it, it will help us all.... at least for a while until they try the next tactic to empty our wallets!

As an EA fan, i know there is ALOT of EA haters. However now that Activision is "on top" by being the biggest company of third parties how do people feel. Yeah EA got into bad news by supporting ads in games, DLC whoring, and copy protection on PC but was any of that as bad as what Activision has done these last few months alone? All im saying is the wrong company made it to the top for all the wrong reasons. The only reason Activision is there is because of the casual game market, they could honestly care less about hardcore gamers, just look at their company if you take infinity ward away from them....I think its time EA takes the crown back, at least with them on top the industry was running fine, they can hold it until a rightful company (possibly ubisoft) is ready for it. Looking at this year alone, EA has more titles i want than anyone in the third party market.

Modern warfare 1 sold millions...They made alot of money off of a highly tweaked COD 2. The amount of profit made would make bill gates sweat.

Modern warefare 2 will also sell millions, even though it barely offers anymore content MW1 had. And the profit will be something any company would do anything for.

They raised their prices during a recession, when they know that they will make millions again.

I got MW2 for £37 quid from Argos but that was with the preorder code of game20 (not sure if it still works though) I would not pay more than that though.

Wasn't going to buy the game anyway at any price. COD4 was good for a few weeks but ultimately very shallow and got repetative very quickly, WaW was a carbon copy and MW2 looks like being more of the same. There are so many top quality games due out this year and early 2010 that there is plenty of choice for consumers so yeah I'll make sure my money goes into someone elses pocket I can live without MW2.

Yes development costs are up but so are the number of gamers buying games more so than ever in history. So they are banking more than ever before. COD 4 sold more than 10 million copies, multiply that by 60 US dollars, that comes out to 600 million dollars!!! Even if Activision only gets half of that due to royalties paid and so on thats still 300 million now how much does it cost to develop a game? My guess is some where far less than 300 million dollars… Not to mention we all gotta pay taxes to our respective governments to own these products and then pay taxes in gas to drive to get them and pay taxes on our houses we sit in to play them and pay taxes on the electricity to use our consoles all of which is paid for out of our paychecks which were taxed… Ugh economic downturn my ass its all about greed, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, and there not a blessed thing we can do about…

it will still sell like hot cakes and i know i'll still buy a copy day 1. i don't approve at all but it's the only way 2 play the game.

also it's only going to be £55 on the high street. if you go online you can pick it up for £45. still way more expensive than the average price of a game (i picked up killzone 2 day 1 for £30!) but it's £5 more than the average price of a new release which isn't too bad.

If you guys keep going at this rate, MW2 will only sell 9995555 out of the 10 million people that will buy this game. KEEP FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT!
