Halo 3: ODST's box art confirms that the title has been optimised for installation to the Xbox 360 hard drive.

That's good, now I can have ODST keeping Fable II company on my hard-drive.

StanLee6149d ago

I think you're going to see more developers do this. Installs wont be mandatory but you'll see games optimized for install.

Raf1k16149d ago

If it increases performance then it's fine IMO but that does mean that if you want to get the most out of it you'll need a hard drive.

StanLee6149d ago

That's what I'm afraid of. You've seen developers use installs on the PS3 as a crutch but with no mandatory installs, developers are still forced the make sure the experience is the same for everyone because even someone with a harddrive may not want to install a game and shouldn't be disadvantaged.

Karum6149d ago

Some devs might do it but others just might not bother spending the time doing it.

Any and all first party games should always be optimized for an install but some 3rd party devs might not bother.

dirthurts6149d ago

Not everyone has a hard drive. It would hurt their sales.

SaberEdge6149d ago

Yes, but I like having the option to install a game to my hard drive if I want to. It's nice that some developers are optimizing the games to run from the hard drive if that option is chosen.

Another One6149d ago

The second disc, which is Halo 3 multiplayer, still shouldn't be installed. The article didn't clarify that. Only the first disc is optimized for installation to the HDD.

Poopface the 2nd6149d ago (Edited 6149d ago )

CONSIDERING IT SAYS THE SAME THING ON THE BACk OF HALO 3.

It has nothing to do with installing the game. I think it has something to do with caching. Why would they put the same thing on the back of halo 3 when it was worse with installs.

I would do hard drive installs if MS would reduce the damn HD price. My 20gb is too small to do game installs since I like DLCs. They should release a 500gb drive and drop the price on the 120gb to like $50.

insomnium6149d ago

is something you can only dream about unfortunately.

Hobadoon6149d ago (Edited 6149d ago )

That's one of the few things that pisses me off about Microsoft. Those hard drive prices are unbelievably ridiculous. I can buy a 1TB external computer hard drive for around $200 but with the 360, 60GB costs me $100???

Come onnnnn....

duplissi6149d ago

thats why i bought an elite, i knew i would fill up the 20 or even the 60 and i was right i have only 59gb left. i even filled up my 60gb ps3 but i just bought a 500gb so im stylin.

SaberEdge6149d ago

You're right, the hard drives are a bit pricey. You can get a 120GB hard drive on Ebay for around $50 or $60 though, and I don't think that is too bad.

The new update coming this month also makes game installs smaller, so they take up less space and you can fit more on your hard drive.

STICKzophrenic6149d ago

My 20gb HDD is in pain too. I'm really tempted to buy one of the 120 gig HDDs off of ebay. I only have 1 or 2 gigs left, and I have to keep deleting stuff that I don't want to keep.

I have a good amount of DLC on my HDD, an Xbox original, and some trailers of my favorite games. NEED MOAR SPACE!!!

I hope future games will have that "optimized for hard drive" logo in the back. So I know if its safe to install them onto my HDD. I am still praying that MS will release a new HDD and lower the existing ones to an affordable price....

shutupandplay6149d ago (Edited 6149d ago )

Isn`t it like $150? Yeah, DO NOT WANT! Not even a $50 drop would get me to pay that much for a freakin` storage device.

The last pillar has fallen XD

Tedakin299d ago

I mean Helldivers 2 is coming to Xbox in 2 weeks. It has a Playstation Studios logo on it. The first pillar has fallen.

lukasmain299d ago

LOL you think a live service game is a Playstation pillar? hahahahahaha

1Victor297d ago

The first pillar has fallen.
🤦🏿 Well the competitor’s house already got 2/3 pillars down and the 3rd one is rotted to the core about to fall any minute now bringing down the glass house of cards down FOREVER 🤣
THE WAR IS OVER DEAL WITH IT

Reaper22_297d ago

It doesnt matter. You can get playstation stuff on PC. That pillar fell a long time ago. And next gen it will continue to fall.

Tedakin298d ago (Edited 298d ago )

@lukasmain Their one successful live service game, and their most successful game in the last few years. Yeah I do.

lukasmain298d ago (Edited 298d ago )

It's not a pillar. Expect ALL live serviice games to come over. That includes that upcoming Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls as well at some point. But the PILLARS are the amazing single player games. The games they built their brand on. Helldivers LAUNCHED on PC. It's not a Playstation Pillar
