Which upcoming exclusive will define the PS3?

VGarabia.com

No one can argue the fact that Sony console has produced some of the best games this generation. I have been watching the sales performance of every big exclusive game for the PS3, as there are a lot of exclusive games for the PS3 sold pretty well but the problem is Sony PS3 still don't have a game as powerful as Halo 3 or Gears Of Wars1/2 when it comes to sales.

Some think its GT5. Others will tell you God of War 3, or Uncharted 2 or even LittleBig Planet.

Too many games I guess...

pure pwnage246135d ago

yeah I don't want 1 game to define the PS3, the more AAA games the better

Anon19746135d ago

I always thought the nice thing about the PS3 and the PS2 before it is that it catered to all gamers. There was no, one console defining franchise. There never has been for the Playstation, in my opinion.

Saaking6135d ago

I liked this response from one of the poster on the site:

"That’s because Halo and Gears are the only AAA titles on the Xbox.
The ps3 has so many AAA titles that ONE game cannot define the brand. We don’t want ONE game to define the PS brand. We want the PS to be known as the console with so many AAA games that we cannot choose the best."

-EvoAnubis-6135d ago

That's more or less what I was going to say. The PlayStation brand has never been about one or two AAA titles, but rather about a very large variety of great software.

There'll never be a game that "defines" the PS3; that would defeat the entire point of the PlayStation brand.

Cwalat6135d ago (Edited 6135d ago )

"Which upcoming exclusive will define the PS3?"

I could say Resistance 3, but then GT5 would come to mind.
I could say GT5, but then Heavy Rain would come to mind.
I could say Heavy Rain, but then Ratchet and Clank: Crack in Time would come to mind.
I could say Ratchet and Clank: Crack in Time, but then Uncharted 2 would come to mind.
I could say Uncharted 2, but then Killzone 3 would come to mind.
I could say Killzone 3, but then Infamous 2 would come to mind.
I could say Infamous 2, but then Final Fantasy 13: Versus would come to mind.
I could say Final Fantasy 13: Versus, but then MAG would come to mind.
I could say MAG, but then Final Fantasy 14 would come to mind.
I could say Final Fantasy 14, but then White Knight Chronicles would come to mind.
I could say White Knight Chronicles, but then LittleBigPlanet 2 would come to mind.
I could say LittleBigPlanet 2, but then Starhawk would come to mind.
I could say Starhawk, but then God of war 3 would come to mind
I could say God of war 3.......

See what i did there?

chaosatom6135d ago (Edited 6135d ago )

Defining the ps3 = Moving a lots of PS3s off the selves.

And the only way to do that is if PS3's price was lowered and lots of money went into ads.

I think by the time GOW3 or FF13 comes out, Sony would do just that and that would be the game that would 'define the ps3'

darthv726135d ago

Does the PS3 still need defining? It isnt the problem of the system but the consumers.

presto7176135d ago (Edited 6135d ago )

Does anyone know if Resistance 3 will run on Killzone 2's engine?

@RememberThe357

Thnx for answering. I just wasnt sure.

RememberThe3576135d ago (Edited 6135d ago )

But I agree. Sony is very clear about the fact that they don't want one game to define their console, and I honestly agree. With the PS1 and PS2 everyone had a different game that defined the console for them. I think that is the same thing that will happen to the PS3.

But as it stands now, I think Uncharted is defining the PlayStation brand right now. When I think PS3 I don't think Killzone or MGS, I think Uncharted 2.

@presto717: That is an almost guaranteed "no". I'm sure they will use some of the techniques GG used, but they have their own in house engine, Insomniac Engine. Resistance 2 is running version 2.0 and R&CF: A Crack In Time is running v4.0.

InfectedDK6135d ago (Edited 6135d ago )

In my opinion (right at this moment and upcoming):
- Gran Turismo
- Killzone
- Metal Gear Solid
- Tekken (Even if it's multi)
- LittleBigPlanet
- God of War
- Ratchet and Clank
- SingStar
- Buzz

Not Heavenly Sword, The Agency, White Knight Chronicles, Warhawk, FF, Demon Souls, WipeOut, SOCOM, Resistance, Shadow of Colossus, Ico, Motorstorm.. Even though all theese games are very very great games..

Heavy Rain, Agent, M.A.G, Uncharted and inFamous could be it at a later time.
Blade & Soul might also define the PS3 at a later point if it comes to the PS3.

As cool as a game ModNation Racers really is and will be I don't think it will be on this list.

"That’s because Halo and Gears are the only AAA titles on the Xbox.
The ps3 has so many AAA titles that ONE game cannot define the brand. We don’t want ONE game to define the PS brand. We want the PS to be known as the console with so many AAA games that we cannot choose the best." - Comment from Aaron on vgarabia.com

sorceror1716135d ago

Nobody's mentioned that class of games yet.

We've got LBP already, and ModNation Racers coming out. Those are - literally - game changers. I know MNR is going to be a first-day for me - LBP has been so much fun it's stupid. And it *never gets old*, there's always new stuff, *every single day*.

chewmandinga6135d ago

to ps1 / ps2 days there were still too many things to think about that "defined the console".

ps1 - FF VII/VIII/IX, Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Parappa the Rapper, Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, Syphon Filter, Tekken, Gran Turismo & Resi Evil, Tony Hawks 1 + 2

Ps2 - Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear 2 + 3, Shadow of Colossus, Ico, Killzone, Silent Hill 2 + 3, Gran Turismo 3 (that level with the rain!), Jak & Daxter, Grand Theft Auto, Bully, Devil May Cry, God of War, Kingdom Hearts.

ps3 - Killzone 2, Metal Gear 4, Uncharted 1 + 2, Ratchet & clank, infamous, Heavenly Sword, LittleBig, PixelJunk, Wipeout HD, Warhawk, Resistance, Motorstorm, GT5, Heavy Rain, Valkyrie Chronicles, Final Fantasy Versus XIII (probably), God of War 3.

There's always been far too many to count. It's been much easier for Xbox with Halo (not saying there weren't ANY good games for the whole Xbox 1 lifespan, but...yeah) as that game was literally THE reason to own one.

If PS3 had no exclusives except for Metal Gear, there would be no question that Snake would be our mascot, but he has so much competition from Sackboy, Cole, Nariko, Kratos, Drake Infamous, The Helghast it's hard to decide. Master chief has no real competition, except for the GoW guy.

Anyway...looking forward to GT5 & Uncharted this holiday season!

Boody-Bandit6135d ago (Edited 6135d ago )

Yeah CWalat I see what you did there.
I see you forgot a bunch of past and upcoming titles! ;)

Seriously though and sales aside, I thought the PS3 defined itself to me when I played Heavenly Sword (I'm a sucker for hack and slash titles). Regardless of ratings or sales it was the first title that I sat back and said "Man was that a freaking blast" (from start t finish). I played other games before it that I really enjoyed but that was the title that let me know (personally) this is going to be a hell of a generation for Sony.

himdeel6135d ago (Edited 6135d ago )

...has to be asked. We're not talking about just one or two games. We're talking about several games, and several different genre of games. It's nice that each game has their own individual strengths and each has the potent to be a heavy hitter sales wise.

I'm am still absolutely loving 2009 for PS3.

Cwalat6135d ago

@brutallyhonest...

Yeah i also think Heavenly Sword defines PS3, but the title says "upcoming exclusives"... Sorry

I hope they release a sequel to Heavenly Sword... But i doubt it, if they were to release one.. they would've announced it by now.

ps3d06135d ago

Got to love how stupid ps3 fanboy throw out every signle ps3 exclusive as a "AAA" game. You could do the same with the 360 if you wanted. Personally I say Halo, Gears, Forza , Mass Effect, Fable and Kameo are the 360 "AAA" games noted the sells are fairly poor on Kameo.

As for the ps3 I'd say its "defining" game is uncharted. MGS4 is their best selling game I believe. KZ2 is probably there best looking game. As for their AAA game so far I said the picking are pretty slim. You have uncharted, god of war 3 (think that be their next "defining game") and GT guess you could throw mgs in but god I hated that game.

IdleLeeSiuLung6135d ago

Sega had one. Nintendo has one. Microsoft has one.

Sony needs one!

ThanatosDMC6135d ago

Zone of the Enders 3! If only...

ZombieAutopsy6135d ago

Your pretty much doing the same thing. Your being blinded by fanboyish-ness, your pretty much just listing every game that xbox could consider AAA so dont be a little weiner and call other people fanboys for you doing the same thing makes you look like a doooosh.

ultimolu6135d ago

This has to be the most dumbest question ever. There's too many games...I haven't even beat half of them yet. *coughs and looks at collection*

ps3d06135d ago

ZombieAutopsy that no where near every 360 exclusive that was 6 games and all of them are really good. Also I listed 4 games for the ps3 that I thought were "AAA" so how is that being a fanboy ? As to say thing like oh I dont know this maybe

WTF is starhawk as anyone ever heard of that ? LBP 2 ? when was this anounced ? OH and the 1st one was boring as hell. FF14 a mmorpg are you f*cking kidding me ? beside who the hell play mmorpgs on a consoles ? Heavy Rain wtf is that game even about yay it looks pretty great where the damn gameplay ? R3, KZ3 I'm sorry when were these games were annonced when again ? not only did that idiot list almost every single game for the ps3 he made up titles as he went.

maybe I should slap Too Human, Viva Pinata , Banjo-Kazooie ,Blue Dragon, Star Ocean 4, Lost Odyssey, Lips, Infinite Undiscovery all on 360 AAA list even though half those games suck.

Just cause I'm not sitting around saying how great the ps3 and and how much I hate the 360 and how the 360 sucks and rodd blah blah blah rodd and oh rodd doenst make me a fanboy.

I named off games that were great games on both systems and that anyone who is a gamer should enjoy

Mario6135d ago

Playstation has never been defined by one game. Its been defined by many, spanning every genre. That is why playstation has always been so successful. Yet, if i was to single out 1 game as defining, it would have to be Gran Turismo. Gran Turismo is playstation and playstation is gran turismo. It is what playstation is about: quality and excellence. It is also playstations biggest selling franchise and has grown alongside playstation since the beginning, showing the best that each console could possibly deliver. I think Gran Turismo 5 will define the ps3. It excels. And he it launches before xmas with the price cut, it will push ps3 onto a completely different level and will be a defining point in the life of the playstation 3. The turning point

FamilyGuy6135d ago (Edited 6135d ago )

That was a great comment find, it's very true.

@ps3do, it says "upcoming exclusives" and if you had played some of those games you would KNOW that sequels are planned simply because of the way they end. It's not like he said off the wall like Metal Gear Solid 5 where there's no indication of the games existence.

Upcoming wow

Uncharted 2
GOW3
FFXIV
FFvsXII
White Knight Chronicles
ModNation Racers
Demons Souls
->Fat Princess recently came out but even THAT game defines the PS brand to some level. Fun and lighthearted but at the same time for core gamers with it's bloody limbs all over the battle field and strategic game play.
Heavy rain
Gran turismo 5
Eye Pet
->Quantum could end up showing it's diversity and why it's not simply a "gears clone"
Warhawk 2 "Starhawk"
Agent
The Last Guardian
MAG
Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time

That's a pretty long list and all will define the PS3, not just 2-4.

uncharted 2 will be much bigger than 1

I hope sony shows agent,Im really interested about it and tbh Im interested about mag

CrazyOrange6135d ago

im not sure, but agent is R* game not a sony game, so they decided!

guitarded776135d ago

I'm sick of hearing how great a game is determined by sales. I enjoy gaming on my PS3 and 360 and like exclusives on both, but IMO the PS3 has better exclusives. I like MGS4, LBP and Killzone better than Halo and Gears 1&2. As for upcoming exclusives that are going to bring people to the PS3 GoW3, U2, GT5 and MAG are sure winners, but I don't think it's the games holding people back, but the price of the system. Once a system price break occurs we'll see a spike in sales for some of the older exclusives.

Boody-Bandit6135d ago (Edited 6135d ago )

I agreed with "I'm sick of hearing how great a game is determined by sales"
because if that were true Wii Fit (not counting Wii Sport because it is packed in with the console) would be considered the greatest game this generation.

TheMART6135d ago

@ saaking

"The ps3 has so many AAA titles that ONE game cannot define the brand. We don’t want ONE game to define the PS brand. We want the PS to be known as the console with so many AAA games that we cannot choose the best.""

Wrong. LittleBigPlanet agreed, 9.5 out of 10 AAA game and thats why I got my PS3 LBP pack, great boxart.

The rest above 9 out of 10 is a BluRay movie aka MGS4 and a generic shooter called KZ2.

No other defining AAA games on the POS3 now. Uncharted 2 will be a great game this October though, the second AAA game worth on the PS3 for me.

2008: LBP
2009: Uncharted 2
2010 God of War III

About one game a year for me on the PS3.

raztad6135d ago

@Mart

A honest question: in what way KZ2 is generic?

MGS a BD movie? may be BUT what an AWESOME movie. LOL. Many of you were really excited just with a spinof of that "movie".

UC2, GoW3 (this defines PS3 IMO), GT5, LBP, inFAMOUS, yeah there is more than just one exclusive.

Gue16135d ago

http://www.gameproducer.net...

I hope you learn something because you're very stupid. >_>

nycredude6135d ago

Mart.. I don't know how you still have 5 bubbles.

BTW which exclusive.. oops, I mean multiplats will define the xbox 360?

xztence6135d ago (Edited 6135d ago )

Oh really? is that why you xbots cried so much about wanting it on your console? so much that Kojima had to shut you all up SEVERAL times and gave you a spin off so you stopped crying?

Tell me now.

"About one game a year for me on the PS3."

Ok, so what does your 360 have every year? more Halo?
arent you getting fed up with that POS generic shooter? come on now.

Man_of_the_year6135d ago (Edited 6135d ago )

KZ2 is generic because it doens't bring anything new to the FPS genre, and that is not its fault since the FPS genre is very saturated. But KZ2 is COD4. Basically using the same perk system. They didn't really introduce any kind of Feature that could innovate the game. It's online is very similar to COD4 except COD4 atleast lets you see the replay of how you died unlike KZ2.

KZ2 looks great, no doubt about it, but what did it intorduce in the FPS genre that really set it apart of the online features of and anykind of feature or gameplay that wasn't already in games like COD4? And don't say the targeting cause we all know how well that worked out for them.

MGS4 is more movie than game. My first playthrough was 18 hours, and 9+ hours of that is cutscenes and cinematics, and not all the cinematics were that great, i actually was falling asleep through a lot of the dialoge of just them talking...which went on for lengthly periods of time, but the actual scenes where there were action were brilliant.

When i think of the games that have defined the PS namebrand, FF, GT GOW, MGS. So since FF is no longer exclusive franchises to the PS3, i would have to say GOW and GT and MGS. 3 great franchises.

@xztence - Are you kidding me? It's not a transition of gametypes, they are preset when the game starts depending on the host. Then the gametypes just go in order, give me a break. And then Class Systems...COD4 has that too. WHAT DID KZ2 BRING THAT HASN'T BEEN DONE BEFORE!!! I didn't say it didn't bring anything to the table, i said it didn't bring anything NEW!!! Get your Sh1t straight and lose the fanboy goggles. And What the Fvck are to talking about with MGS4? So you agreed with me but just wanted to put your 2 cents in...LOL stupid Fvck get out of here. I didn't say anything about the experience one has in the end after playing it. I didn't say it was a bad game neither. What i did say about the game you just agreed with, so Why the Fvck are you even mentioning MGS4 like i said anyting bad about the overall game. Stupid ignorant SDF fvcktard.

xztence6135d ago (Edited 6135d ago )

"But KZ2 is COD4. Basically using the same perk system. They didn't really introduce any kind of Feature that could innovate the game. It's online is very similar to COD4 except COD4 atleast lets you see the replay of how you died unlike KZ2."

Bullsh!t. Does COD 4 have an online system that fluidly transitiones between game modes? does any other game have that?
Does COD4 actually have class system that emphasize on the classes and are being used accordingly?

You sound so biased. KZ 2 might not innovate the fps genre but its wrong to say it did bring absolutely nothing new to the table.

"MGS4 is more movie than game"

you know what, who cares its the end experience that counts and MGS4 is an experience no MGS fan will want to miss. end of story.

Edit @ above
Hahaha, why are you so angry dipsh!t, and when did I say I agreed with your retarded views on MGS4? I told you to stop whining about it being a movie and just enjoy the game you F*cking d*ckwad.
and what you said about KZ 2, yes they go in order but read stupid horsesh!t I said FLUIDLY.
seems like you cant comprehend what I said go READ it again.
and did I say COD 4 doesnt have classes? NO. I said the classes in KZ 2 are actually used accordingly and differ instead of those in COD.

God why do I even bother explaining to a retarded xbot anyway.

Pennywise6135d ago

SEE WHAT HAPPENS YOU PROLIFE ADVOCATES!

Mart your mind is warped. The 360 has not seen a good game since...... Gears2,maybe? I say maybe because its online is STILL broke. Quit being such a whiny hypocrite.

raztad6135d ago (Edited 6135d ago )

@man of the year

With all respect dude. KZ2 is far from generic. First what other game got the atmosphere KZ2 has? None

Second, what other FPS got the cover system KZ2 has? None. BTw, this couldnt be overemphasized, KZ2 COVER system is not a gimmickry you decide to skip and play the game as a GENERIC run and gun shooter like COD4, and upcoming MW2.

Third, What other game got KZ2 AI? this alone set KZ2 far apart from the crow of Generic FPSes out there.

Four, What other game you feel the weight of your Gear and it affects radically the gameplay? None.

KZ2 story is not yet ANOTHER GENERIC anti-terrorist story like COD4.

I can understand why COD4 lovers hate KZ2. They are too used to twitchy gameplay but KZ2 is far from generic. Simply put, KZ2 is a unique game, it shares a lot of things with other FPS of course, however it got a lot of personality and its own gameplay variations that makes it quite different to other FPSs out there.

TheMART6135d ago

Exactly how Man o/t Year explains.

@ crying Pennywise

I'll be playing Forza 3, Halo: ODST and L4D 2 on my 360 this year compared to one good game on the PS3 this year, Uncharted 2.

Besides that, I'll enjoy the better running and looking multiplatform games on my 360, besides that with the better online system. Brutal Legend, Assassins Creed 2, Modern Warfare 2 to name a few.

Thats why the 360 remains the better gaming device. Also in 2009. Maybe 2010 will be PS3's year. Maybe. Or maybe 2011. Maybe 2012 but that'll be PS4's launch year.

Shane Kim6135d ago

And Halo 3 redefined FPS gaming? It's the same sh!t as CoD only WORSE!

callahan096135d ago

Mart, I'm sorry that you won't be playing Ratchet & Clank or Demon's Souls, and that you're ignoring inFamous. There are some truly GREAT games for PS3 this year.

TheMART6135d ago

@ Calahan

I have a Ratchet&Clank game already, its nice, but then again one of these is enough.

And inFamous, I'm not that much into sandbox games first, second I don't think it looks all that great and I didn't like the gameplay in the demo. Its not a great, great game with over 9 out of 10 must have also.

So this year has Uncharted for me only that will be really really great. Next year God of War III and maybe GT5 if not further delayed.

callahan096135d ago

Well, Mart, I must say that I didn't like the demo for inFamous either. I found the graphics mediocre and the missions boring and I just found a hard time liking it. Ended up starting a new game at a friend's who had bought it, and really enjoyed the beginning part, so then I bought it myself and I must say that the actual game is WAY better than the demo led on. And the graphics remarkably good in that game. The draw distance isn't the longest, but the textures are really high quality and the particle and explosive effects are second to none. Sometimes the game has so much going on, it's crazy, you'll see literally tons of explosions going off, cars flying through the air, sparks flying everywhere, it's really a visual sight to behold at times. Anyway, the game plays like a more focused version of a sandbox game. It's coherent and structured in a way that most sandbox games are not, but it has a lot of VARIETY like a sandbox game, and a really big open world to explore at your leisure if you should so desire. All in all, it's easily one of the best games this year, if not the best, and I think you should rent it, you might discover that you like it as much as I did.

Saaking6135d ago

You could say any shooter is generic but Killzone 2 is not generic and it is most definitely NOT like CoD 4 at all. I think Gears 2 is generic because it brought nothing new to the third person shooter genre, see how that works.

raztad6135d ago

@callahan

Good inFAMOUS description dude :D. Totally agree with you. inFAMOUS is on top of my best games list this gen so far. +bubble

Konami Delists Some Metal Gear Games From Digital Stores Without Warning

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD have been delisted from digital stores without warning.

cloganart94d ago

I mean, it makes sense. With Vol.2 coming and all that

Commentby94d ago

Stupid headline. Should state that they are being updated or discontinued. This makes the crazy people that only read headlines think it some kind of conspiracy to take away peoples already purchased games.

jjb198194d ago

If you want to all of a sudden own them now and haven't played them yet because a remastered is coming out, shame on you. I can't believe people are complaining about this 15 years later when it was bound to happen anyway. "A new remaster is out, quick, I'd better buy the original from the shop."

gigoran893d ago

Gamers: "Physical? who needs physical? everyone knows that digital online games are the future. stop living in the past. we don't need no stinking disc drive"

Same gamers: "How dare the delist a digital game that I own!!!!"

computeSci93d ago (Edited 93d ago )

And? What is your point?

Same gamers: "How dare the retailers to delist (quit selling) a physical game that I own!!!!"

I think you just read the headline and don't know how dilisting works with Sony. It's common knowledge that:

"Players who already bought the games will still have them in their library and can download and play them as usual."

So again, what is your point?

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX578d ago (Edited 578d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne577d ago (Edited 577d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro578d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken577d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown578d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72578d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken577d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya577d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast578d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood578d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

Microsoft once tried to nab LittleBigPlanet from Sony after a few drinks

It turns out that many moons ago, Microsoft once had its eye on the Sony published LittleBigPlanet series.

Microsoft had a good idea but fumbled it again.

Cacabunga743d ago (Edited 743d ago )

Project Spark idea was decent but they quickly gave up ..
LBP was wonderful

ApocalypseShadow744d ago

Microsoft in a nutshell. Always tried to poach Sony employees, games, 3rd party games and devices like the depth camera that was turned into Kinect but was running on PS2 before Xbox 360. Wouldn't be surprised they wanted LBP. Just like they worked behind the scenes pushing the MLB to bring Sony's baseball game to Xbox instead of making their own.
https://www.playstationlife...

They didn't spend years trying to develop their own baseball game. They wanted Sony's game.

They're scum.

Zachmo182743d ago

Microsoft didn't force MLB on Xbox. MLB gave Sony 2 options either go multiplat or risk losing the license.

Rynxie743d ago

And why do you think MLB said that? I believe Ms approached MLB.

ApocalypseShadow743d ago (Edited 743d ago )

Totally ridiculous comment.

The only exclusivity Sony had was to their own creation of The Show. Microsoft could have paid the MLB for the license just like Sony did and made their own baseball game.

Microsoft instead, groomed MLB for years in trying to poach Sony's game and bring it to Xbox. They're worth 3 TRILLION dollars. You think that's not enough money to make their own baseball game? Don't be delusional.

Microsoft spun it like they always do and told the media that they had to trust Sony with their hardware. After they put Sony in that position of not having a choice. Either go multiplatform or stop making one of their successful games. That's a no win scenario.

And what did Microsoft do? They didn't try to sell the game to the Xbox community. They put it on game pass to hurt Sony. Pushing the idea of why buy games that are $70 when you can play them in their cheap service for $10. It was a dirty tactic.

You fell for the Kool aid drink Microsoft served you instead of spitting it out. Hope it tasted good because you were fooled by Phil and the gang.

Xbox executive Sara Bond has told Axios that Microsoft spent a number of years trying to get MLB The Show onto Xbox consoles. And when it finally succeeded in breaking off PlayStation’s long-held exclusivity, the company had to “trust” Sony with pre-release Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Bond revealed that MLB The Show “always came up” in conversations between Microsoft and the Major League Baseball organization. “We always said, ‘We love this game. It would be a huge opportunity to bring it to Xbox.'” she recalled. However, when Microsoft’s efforts materialized, it put the company in an awkward situation where it had to send in pre-release consoles to a rival company.

Lying to yourself is unbecoming.

Article link tells you all you need to know in Sarah Bond's own words.

They were too cheap/inept/lazy to develop their own mlb game, so they port begged for years and bribed the mlb to make the show multiplatform. Like i said many times, xbox brought nothing to the table their 24 years, ZERO.

At least you and others get it. Note drank the Kool aid and asked for seconds thinking it was refreshing.

Most don't even know how it all played out but it's there in black and white for all to see. Microsoft brought it up for years until the MLB forced Sony's hand. It was a win win for Microsoft. Kill one reason to buy a PlayStation or kill the game by dropping it in a cheap service to kill Sony's sales numbers on PlayStation.

"However, Healey said Media Molecule wouldn't have felt right doing that, adding it would have been "morally corrupt"."

Major kudos to Media Molecule for being an upright studio with principles.

Cockney742d ago

They chose well, Sony gave them the backing to pursue their dreams with no restrictions even tho their games especially dreams have very niche appeal. Media molecule and Sony deserve respect for this in an age of risk averse publishing.

Great, more stories like this please. Show the last of the zombies holding the line what we've been saying for years: Microsoft is anti competition, anti industry and has no interest in making games at all.

But hey, at least there's an Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to, right?

Well considering SONY just killed the series, LBP would've been dead by now either way. Though MM probably wouldn't exist by now either, so I'm glad they stayed with SONY, hopefully they don't get shut down any time soon or ever honestly.

Sheppard2743d ago

How did Sony kill the series?

Inverno743d ago

They shut down the servers, that's millions of user created levels gone. That and dead are pretty much the same, it's also been years since 3 and they cancelled HUB soooo.

They shutdown the servers because no one was playing, no one in the community cared about the user created levels so why keep them up? Wtf you guys would never succeed in running a business.

Inverno743d ago

Yea dood no one was playing so they shut off the servers. Cause people with enough common sense can't just Google why they were actually shut of, right?
