Ubisoft First Quarter Sales Broken Down By Platform

As part of their first quarter report, Ubisoft revealed what each platform contributed to their bottom line, as compared to last year. Overall, the Nintendo DS continues to be Ubisoft's main source of revenue, but the Wii and Xbox 360, compared to last year, also saw strong sales results.

Good solid numbers from the Xbox 360.

Delta6126d ago (Edited 6126d ago )

No console has good numbers, Ubi is down 50%. (Beside Wii and PC)

Traveler6126d ago

Not really. The 360 is a measly 3% higher than the PS3 despite the fact that it has a 7 or 8 million installed base lead.

PS3 = 13%
360 = 16%

Not to mention that if you look at last year’s first quarter the PS3 utterly dominated the 360 in revenue contribution to Ubisoft.

PS3 = 21%
360 = 9%

What I'm really impressed with is how much revenue the PC made for Ubisoft. The PC contributed a whopping 20% of Ubisoft's revenue, which is the same amount as the Wii and only 6% less than the DS. And people say the PC is dead as a gaming platform? Puhleese.

Last year when the results came out showing how PS3 gained the most money, everyone was quick to jump at "PS3 makes more money for publishers".....what happened? Up by 3%, 1%, .5%, thats a big change for a platform that makes companies the "most money". Seriously, that's a BIG drop.

Sitdown6125d ago

3% of 1 million is 30000.
3% of 100 is 3.

Moral of the story, you don't have enough information to say whether or not 3% is measly. But if I was to play the same game as you, is 2% (difference between all Sony's platforms versus Microsoft's one) measly?.......and what would be the overall combined install base of the ps2, ps3, and psp? Now of course, this does not give the breakdown of how many titles was released on each platform.

Syronicus6125d ago

You have to admit, it is a little odd to see that the 360 is only at 3% more than the PS3. I would have expected there to be a greater lead. A lead more towards the 5 to 7 percent range.

mynd6125d ago (Edited 6125d ago )

@traveller.

Perhaps you need to learn you maths.
If the PS3 is at 21 mill.
And the 360 is at 28 million, thats 28/21 or 33% more.
If the Ps3 sold 13% on their sales, 33% more of that is 17.2%.
So the 360 platofrm should have sold aorund 17%
OMG they failed by 1%!!!

Not exactly the dire picture you would like to paint is it?

And PS3 numbers are strong last year because of Haze.

Sony numbers really are sucky, even with 3 platforms they're barely ahead of the 360. Good solid numbers for the PC though.

I doubt Nintendo's domination is a surprise to anyone.

raztad6126d ago

PS3 numbers are seriously down compared with last year. BTW, what games has released UBi so far this year?

Trollimite6126d ago (Edited 6126d ago )

only one i can think of is HAWX im sure theres another one but i cant think of it

STK0266126d ago

while PS3 numbers are somewhat disappointing, PSP and PS2 numbers were to be expected. Ubi hasn't really released anything worth it on these 2 platforms. Wiat next year after AC:BL, the PSP numbers will likely go up.

Clap Your Hands6126d ago

In what world are Sony's numbers bad?

PSP and PS2's low numbers is no suprise, as Ubi pretty much havent released anything on those two platforms for the first quarter of this year...

PS3 numbers are pretty darn close to the 360 numbers even with 7 mill less consoles on the market.

Darkeyes6126d ago

I don't know what Ubisoft was expecting from the first 2 quarters... I don't see a single good game released by them this year (even last year, I can only recall POP which sold marginally well)... The only game I see that will see well is Assassin's Creed 2.. SC is going to be released next year, so there goes their chance to earn profit..

Don't expect much this year Ubisoft. Although the 2nd half looks better than the first (mainly due to one game), I don't expect it to sell COD or GTA numbers especially since it will land near Uncharted 2, MW2 and ODST...

Trying to report because he likes the Splinter Cell going multi platform speculation article.

kazan6126d ago

get over it, and that artical you talking about was written by an Xbox site.

Stryfeno26126d ago (Edited 6126d ago )

"But, but, but PS3 is the most profitable console for Ubi"

Is that so?

Nathan1236126d ago

Only 3% more profit for 7 million more consoles out there... If I were Ubisoft, I would be more pissed at the 360 than the PS3...

likedamaster6126d ago

Yeah but 360 is up 7% and PS3 is down 8%. Big difference there. Xbox 360 is profitable.

Traveler6126d ago

I'll just answer that by posting what I wrote in the gamer zone.

That's largely because the 360's numbers from last year’s first quarter were so low.

PS3 = 21%
360 = 9%

These numbers change all the time. It really depends on what games have been released in the quarter.

All in all though, the PS3 numbers are very good. 21% last year and 13% this year for the PS3, compared to 9% last year and 16% this year for the 360. Not bad for a console that has 3/4 the installed base of the 360.

If you add the numbers from last year's first quarter and this year's first quarter we see that the PS3 contributed a total of 34%, while the 360 contributed only 25%.

The fact is, in these two quarters the PS3 has made more revenue for Ubisoft than the 360 has. Which is especially impressive considering the lower number of PS3s there are in the world.

user39158006125d ago (Edited 6125d ago )

In short all sony sales are down.
Nintendo and 360 are up in sales.
360> wii> Fartstation 3

Only one conclusion its to be made, the PS3 its the inferior platform on everything except for the blu g@y and the massive pink dildo dedicated to the PS3 population.

@Jason 360, that was not fair he knows how to read, just can't comprehend, nor write.

You can't compare a quarter with a full year (08-09), we can see real comparisons when this year is done.

Edit: I apologize, didn't read the article thoroughly enough, poster below is correct.

Comparison is on a quarterly basis.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio6d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing6d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster926d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit6d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing6d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster926d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
