Virtusphere - One Step Closer to Virtual Reality

Russian physicists Ray Latypov and Nurella Latypov have been developing their prototype 'human hamster-ball' since the mid 1990's. It essentially serves as a multi-directional treadmill that a computer can track and move your onscreen character accordingly. Coupled with a head-mounted monitor and a radar system derived from Doppler Radar to track where the player is looking and therefore aiming in a virtual world.

Is this the future of gaming? It's a long way off, but I hope so.

nah but seriously it looks cool for like an arcade or whatever, i bet it would do very well there, i want a go in it lmao... tho i could see you getting knackered quick lol, interesting tho for sure.

Yah, imagine running rlly fast and u get tired and dont have the strengh to stop and u fall and hit your face xD. The concept seems cool tho

ThanatosDMC6142d ago

I cant wait to use this on Dead Rising 2!

MasterChief36246141d ago

Definitely a neat looking idea, for sure.

But my worry is the price.

It would fit very well in an arcade, as you said. I wouldn't mind that, haha :)

Once they start mass producing these babies, America's weight problems will be over.

Kakkoii6142d ago (Edited 6142d ago )

Nope. Because they'll be too lazy to use it. Plus the problem isn't entirely because of lack of exercise, but because of over-consumption of fatty foods.

INehalemEXI6142d ago

stop talking about my beer belly like it is not omnipresent it hears you.

Kakkoii6142d ago

Sigh, I hate seeing people get news coverage for something that's already been shown off by other companies tons of times over the past like 15 years.

Erotic Sheep6142d ago

Great.. now they just need to find a way to shrink that enormous ball because thats gonna take a LOT of space..

INehalemEXI6142d ago (Edited 6142d ago )

why don't they just make a giant old school analog mouse flip it upside down and we run on a tracking ball, seems like that would take up less space. Or use that MS surface/table dealy on the floor to track your movements.

Pandamobile6142d ago

I'm sure we can condense it.

Maybe instead of running inside a giant ball, you can run on top of a ball the size of an exercise ball.

INehalemEXI6142d ago (Edited 6142d ago )

Got to be a better way cause giant hampster bubbles would never reach mass market lol.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing20d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9220d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit20d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing20d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9220d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
