Our favorite hobby will never get the respect it deserves when it continues to be called "Video Games". It's so much more than that and these old farts will never get it and will continue to associate it with kids and toys. I call what I do every day after work "Interactive Entertainment", I've heard it somewhere before but it depicts my hobby perfectly and with maturity.

I'd love to hear what they think of God of War 3, and other brutally gorefest games with a hint of mini-sex action.

You people are just stupid. Obviously it's for parents who are overly concerned... why the hell would a parent be concerned of a "kid" that's over 20 years old? Well they wouldn't - cause they aren't kids.

Then there's the fact that it's using the same rating system as their toys, meaning that they obviously just got lazy and copied the code from the toys and pasted it over to the games section rather than re-doing everything.

They aren't saying that all gamers are kids. I highly doubt that was what was going through their heads when they added a "recommended age" section to their games...

A lot of people playing video games today are people who first started playing with an Atari or NES. This kind of thinking is proof that the media still sees video games as "toys" and not some form of well-established entertainment like the movies.

Why was this approved? I don't see where it says they said ANYTHING about gamers having to or should be no more than 20 years of age, anywhere!

Yes 18 is legal age in America, but if your a parent and a 19 year is living at home you can still control the violence.

JujuRMJ has it right about games still being grouped in with toys - in a way, it's like saying that since we grew up with picture books, Watchmen is only for kids, or heck, since we grew up with the book medium, Kant's A Critique of Pure Reason should be read by no one over 20 (okay, okay, commence centuries-old philosophy-bashing).

Macalatus is on the other side of the right answer here. "Amazon is retarded." That's the extreme view of it, thinking that Amazon is deliberately saying that, as the title of this posting says, "No one over 20 should be playing video games."

Where Amazon is failing is not putting video games either in their own category or alongside electronics. It's an old view of the medium to say that all games are kid stuff.

This is the age-old problem of categorization - even the Library of Congress had to change their own classifications in order to stop insulting entire groups of people. It's one of the big reasons why library and information science is a Master's level program in the States now, it requires exceptional attention to detail. Obviously someone at Amazon doesn't pay that kind of attention, and it's sad.

That's a joke. So I suppose those games are only selling to 18 and 19 year olds. Clearly they're not just toys for kids, they're interactive entertainment, and there are games out there for children, just as there are games for adults. Hell some games out there will only begin to be understood by people 20 and up. I'm 22 and I'll be playing video games till I no longer physically can. Amazon should know better, considering the amount of people over 20 that are paying them for these games. I'd argue if anything, the industry has become more and more geared to the 18+ audience. I guess they don't have many gamers working over there at Shamazon.

Even some children's toys would say simply "6+" or whatever. Implying that 20 is the maximum age is laughable. I didn't know video games all of a sudden became unfun at 21.

I'm 36 and I play video games alongside people from 8 to 45. I've been buying comic books since I was 27 when I found out they are for older teens and adults anymore -- younger kids usually have their own line of comics.

Well I'm 28 and I'll be gaming untill I die. So they can take their logic and age rating and shove it.

I turned 21 so I guess I'll have to hand in all my consoles now...
