Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment is unfazed by criticisms of long development times, and has hinted that it will take just as long on its next project if necessary.
Remedy has in recent times been subjected to criticisms for taking noticeably prolonged amounts of time developing its most recent title, Alan Wake.
Yet Oskari Häkkinen, Remedy's head of franchise development, told develop in an interview published today that the prolonged dev cycles can often be a necessary procedure to ensure quality.

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "All in all, it’s not hard to see why Alan Wake has received a bit of a cult following (there’s that famous foreshadowing again). It’s a title that blends themes and gameplay, while pushing the limits of storytelling by putting stories within stories and letting you read those stories before you get to that part in… the story. It has flaws, to be sure - the gameplay side can’t quite keep up with the rest of its ambitions - but overall it’s a great game that stands out among its peers and is undeniably… one for the books."

Remedy has announced a new Alan Wake book and more as part of their anniversary celebration.

Alan Wake, from Max Payne and Control creator Remedy, is a horror classic, prompting one player to buy 4,000 copies that don’t even work.
Kind of a goody story...
On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.
Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.
Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.
Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.
Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄
So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.
I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.
This is excellent, i'd rather them focus on quality of games not quantity.
long as Remedy makes good titles i dont care how long they take....
Maybe while they are extending their dev time they could actually make a game that doesnt look terrible?
My only problem with Alan Wake is that i was waiting for a story like Max Payne but it actually is a zombie shooter (zombie, infected, it's the same thing, just like aliens and infected in Resistance).
I wished so much it could be a film noir game. I'll probably still buy it but wont have the same enjoyment with photophobic zombies. I'm not anymore excited as i can be for Mass Effect 2, for example. They can take 10 years to release it, it wont be a problem for me.
i would actually like to see more devs do this in order to see more polished games, but there has to be some kind of compromise here in terms of announce and release, both killzone 2 and alan wake were shown in 2005 and both have a span of over 4 years from official announcement to release
with god of war 3, it was first shown in june 2008 at e3 with a target render and is coming out in march 2010, although im sure theyve been working on it since way before june 2008, the window of official announcement and release is going to be under 2 years which i think is pretty good for a game being developed from the ground up on a new engine
