Is Windows 7 Good for Gamers?

Bitmob Writes: The Microsoft OS that comes out Oct. 22. Like all new OSes, Windows 7 confuses me. My PC is 3 years old, and while I've upgraded it to help it run current games at nice resolutions, I'm still not sure if my machine is up to running Microsoft's new OS. I doubt that I'm the only one with questions.

weren't they saying vista was good for gamers as well?

just gotta see how things turn out

Yeah, now it's Windows 7 is better for gamers. Okay... is that better or worse than XP then? I still hate UAC since my best option is to disable it, but then I get hit with the annoying 'you're not totally secure' BS icon and message all the time. Sorry, but your archaic method of 'there is no accessible Admin account, have fun right click to run everything as administrator' just doesn't fly and isn't really secure since all it takes is one or two extra clicks to do anything, which people then ignore because it becomes so commonplace.

Vista: "Would you like to allow access to file?"
User: "Of course, I created the file."
Vista: "Would you like to allow access to file?"
User: "I just told you yes, why can't you remember that?"

500 similar requests later

Vista: "Would you like to allow access to Trojan?"
User: *in a daze* "Yesss..."
Vista: "Trojan installed."
User: "Wait, what?"

Also, props to Cross for some very honest answers. It's good to see people really shedding light on the topic.

Also, love Good Old Games. Very good source of old Win 95/98 games that run on Vista/Win7.

I have been running the Windows 7 RC1 in addition to Vista and it is very good and as many have said, Win 7 is what Vista should have been like in the first place.

It's faster and the new taskbar is ace! I also love the fact you can have your desktop background become a slideshow of pictures.

Haven't tested any games yet but I know it uses less resources.

Any the bottom line is if your computer can run Vista, it can run Windows 7 (but better).

If your computer isn't good enough for Vista, it may still be able to handle Windows 7.

Greywulf6151d ago

Why bother using 7 when there are less than 3 games that will use it. I think Crysis and Arma2 are the only games that really require vista?

KingKionic 6152d ago (Edited 6152d ago )

Ofcourse it is going to be good for Games.

Windows 7 will be a Great OS .

Christopher6152d ago

I always trust people who can't type things out grammatically correct!

I have it on pre-order, so I'll see if this lives up to the hype or not. But, I think I'll be glad just to get Vista off my system.

KingKionic 6152d ago

Grammar nazi!

I`ll fix it....

Multi core support...bring it on.

Kushan6152d ago

Erm Windows has had Multi-core support since before XP...

"Good" for gamers? I wouldn't say that, but that's not to say it'll be "bad" for gamers, either. The second 7 is on shelves, there wont be a PC game out there in development that wont work on the OS. As for previous games, it's as Compatible as Vista, which despite some reports to the contrary is pretty good when it comes to compatibility with games.
7 will be good for everyone in general, its like Vista's best bits but almost none of Vista's bad bits, plus a few new/nice features on the side.

Got the RC (64bit) going on my laptop for about 2 weeks now. Soooo much better at games on than Vista 64bit. I am actually able to play Gears of War all setting on Medium,800x600, no shadows, V-sync on at a stable 28-32 fps, with v-sync off goes from 25-42 fps depending on whether your indoors or out. Half Life 2 runs at a higher FPS than with Vista, dont remember exact numbers on that one...
Specs:
HP Dv4-1275mx
AMD zm-80 Processor
4 Gigs of Ram
ATI HD3200 Onboard

Yes I know its not a gaming laptop but i'm not a big pc gamer so w/e...

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing27d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9227d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit27d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing27d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9227d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
