NowGamer: Obsidian Entertainment is 'trying to get the message out' about its upcoming action game
With Sega's espionage action thriller Alpha Protocol due out in October, the game's developers have stressed that while it looks very much a third-person action game, there's more to it than screenshots may initially convey.
Asked how conscious the studio is of gamers wiewing it simply as a shooter, Obsidian programming producer Nathan Davis, said: "If you just look at the game from a screenshot or something, it'll look good but you'll miss out on that RPG mechanic. So we're trying to get the message out that this is an RPG and everything is dependant on the RPG stuff… it's crazy reactive."

Alpha Protocol has sneaked its way back onto Steam as part of its Summer Sale, much to the surprise of a few loyal fans.
One of the few 7th gen game that I'll full heartedly support for a remake.
Its a very unique RPG and deserves its faults fixed the 2nd time.
Still have a physical copy for my PS3. Clunky at times but I had a lot of fun with it back in the day.

Cultured Vultures: In the spirit of preserving some kind of history of this industry, we’ve decided to list some of the best games that you just simply can’t get hold of digitally at the minute.
I just started playing Spec op. I've had it for years on steam and forgot about it. Such a good game.
Honorable mention to the excellent Driveclub, one of the best racing games of all-time and one of my favourite games ever.
Outrun Online Arcade, Sega Rally Online Arcade, After Burner Climax... all good stuff. I keep my 360 hooked up to play these as well as the TMNT games that were also delisted.
wow...I have all of them except the Nintendo ones either in physical or digital version.
Also..Deadpool the Game is missing on that list.

Many overlooked RPGs lie dormant in the catalogues of gaming, but players can pick up their swords and shields with these amazing JRPG hidden gems!
This game looks ok but it doesn't look like an RPG. Games like Alpha Protocol and Mass Affect are more shooters with RPG-type elements. To me, JRPGs are real RPG. I'm just used to games like FF to the point where, if it if any "RPG" doesn't look or play like that, it isn't an RPG. I guess this could be a start of a whole new genre. I know people have thrown around the phrase "Western RPG" but maybe it should be more official now so that we don't have to compare a MA game to a FF game and say "MA is not a RPG". We could just say "MA is a WRPG".
Looks bloody awesome. Can't wait to play this!
A game does not need swords, sorcery and a fantastical knights and elves setting to be an RPG. All of the elements that are part and parcel of an RPG are here, it is really only the plot and setting that is different here and that is a good thing. As it makes it more original and originality is something the genre needs.

Yes, it is very much an RPG, it is just one based on espionage in a realistic setting rather than a fantastical one with magic and swords. I love my fantasy RPG's more as well, but this is going to be a MUCH needed and welcome change of pace in my opinion.
Sometimes a game can be an RPG with shooter elements.
i love Wrpg's i'm happy that shooters have added those rpg elements all we need is for the Witcher to hit our consoles
