The xbox360 is selling more because it is cheaper and has more marketing, it has had much time to establish itself as THE console because it was released before two other systems. Thats not really an excuse, Sony still messed up their PS3 launch bad, they gambled too high, and their marketing is horrible, but hey, this gen has taught me sales don't equal quality.

How the sales for inFAMOUS would have been if it were 360 exclusive? the same goes for KZ2. The demography of the PS3 is more adult with plenty of responsabilities and the schedule is not based on gaming. The 360 Definetely has more teens and it reflects on the Live community. The steep price tag on the PS3 keeps parents away from it, and the 360 price is more right in the mass market.

I like to see the 360 doing good sales, and looking forward for the PS3 to keep improving, not because Im a shareholder but for the future of gaming, we need the consoles to be succesful

I have a full freinds list and there aint a single teen on there. I would say live has more of every age group than the ps3. one of my freinds is 48 and he loves playing as sniper on any game that lets him have one! but then he is a retired marine..ive come across all kinds of folks on live to be honest. so i disagree with your statement.

Honestly, this is not a rocket scientist type of question. Not only does 360 have way more consoles on the market, Microsoft also advertises their games a bit more than Sony does (historically speaking, Sony has always sucked at marketing as a company) and finally there's a pretty good portion of PS3 owners who honestly only own a PS3 as a Blu-Ray player. This was definitely Sony's fault because they didn't care early on to push the PS3 as a console as much as they pushed it as "the best Blu-Ray player on the market for the dollar". I don't know what percentage of PS3 owners are just media enthusiasts using it for movies, but I'd say it's safe to estimate that a good 1/4 or even more are just watching movies. I can definitely vouch for this having worked in retail when the PS3 launched and we sold PS3's with TV's as a Blu-Ray player more than we actually sold PS3's as a console.

A Lot of people may try to argue the whole "well according to X sites the 360 version is usually better than the PS3 version" but that doesn't affect sales as much as you think because the fact is that people that READ websites/magazines are actually a small minority of the gaming population and always have been. We honestly only make up maybe 5-10% of the total gaming population. The average gamer just walks into a GameStop and buys a game for their favorite system or whatever system their friends are buying the game on so that they can play together.

So really, why does 360 games outsell PS3? Marketing, install base and the fact that a good chunk of PS3 owners don't actually play games with their machine. Simple as that. Next article please.

i'd suggest doing a little more research. Heavenly sword sold over a million copies. How much did it cost to make heavenly sword? and how much revenue did they make? A sequel could very well be done based on game sales. A heavenly sword sequel won't be done because SCEE pissed off the heavenly sword dev.

Also nick talks about the age discrepancy between 360 and ps3 gamers. saying that 360 gamers are younger and get more games. that's not necessarily true because those kids don't have jobs and have to rely on mommy and daddy for games.

As a ps3 owner with a 360 for my kids I can tell you that I have more ps3 games in my home than I have 360 games and my pc games outnumber both consoles. Nice article. Great material, but a little more research on the subject matter would have spoken volumes. I'd suggest revisiting this subject, getting some actual data; NPD, media crate, famitsu, etc,. and coming back to this just to see how the theory holds up against actual factual data

If you put the number of PS3 sold x 400$ and compare to the 360 at 200$ you will see who is making money.

I can explain why Xbox has a larger attach rate… The owners generally are less intelligent than their PS3 counterparts. Any gamer that would suffer through not one but several RROD’s would likely buy any game published no matter how good it was. It seems that the PS3 gamer is a bit more selective when buying a game while the Xbox gamer buys simply for the sake of buying. After all if you are gullible in one area you are likely gullible in another.

Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
