And there is a part of me that thinks we are not seeing all of Home. I don't think Sony would be sinking so much into this thing if this was all there was.

It seems to me that by the time we get a full release it will exceed even what we were hope it would be when it was announced.

Home could be something great years from now, and Sony will be there first. That's the idea. It's not amazing people right now, but if they do it right, it'll have been worth it in the long run. Same with Bluray and the Cell. Sony's taking the big chances this gen.

With that said, right now, it doesn't interest me personally. I think they should have put more money on making PSN itself, better.

i love the hell out of my ps3 but home really needs to be more and bigger than what it is to meet the hype. all it is is a boring social network place. a very boring social networking place. if your supposed to be able to meet people on it, atleast like it to myspace and facebook or something. the only cool thing i have seen done with home was the giant gundam in japan's home.

im as disappointed in sony's home as i was in xbox/360's Halo 3, Fable 1 & 2, Gears of War 1 & 2 etc....

It's cool for what it is. I've been in Home since the closed beta days and it really has come a long way from where it started.

I just don't have a real need to go into it. It feels disconnected from the console/XMB. Which is a good thing in a way because for those that don't want it aren't forced to even see it. Optionally, it would be nice if your avatar followed you outside of Home to the XMB or just somehow connected Home to the XMB. Like a window that would allow you to peak into Home from the XMB at any time without jumping into the whole app.

Close home and use the money to get cross game voicechat and crossgame invites in PSN and fund some new great exclusives from that money you save Sony!

Dude, we ain't living in the year 2002 anymore. Its allmost 2010 now, its 8 years later. Sony promised to match XBL at the start of PSN. After allmost 3 years it still doesn't.

Yes, cross game voichat and invites are necessary because it makes an online community feel alive. PSN feels pretty much dead to me when I'm online. As long as one stays in one game, you're fine. But its not as fun as it should be.

About the games, nope, shouldn't say that for the 360. THe 360 has a game library thats more expanded and have all genres covered already. PS3 misses out in (J)RPG's, racers, about every genre you can think off.

Plus for this year the 360 got: Halo-ODST, Splinter Cell Conviction and L4D 2. The only game I can think of worth buying for my PS3 is Uncharted 2.

that's exactly what SONY would be doing if they scrapped HOME. Every time they release new clothes and costumes and even things like picture frames and furniture, people eat those up. If people are willing to throw cash at virtual items that take very little effort and resources(relative to actual game content)to make, then why would SONY scrap it? So unless they're in the Business of not making money, they won't scrap home.

Home is fine how it is sony has alot more to worry about also then just home. You gotta think about that to such things as sales, bringing new apps and other stuff to the console.Its not all about home, home will get better as time goes on. It wont be what you call foreclosed thats just never gonna happen. They would be fools to do that their makeing some money off it.

Right now i think their more worried about bringing out AAA titles for us and bring more people to the ps3. Also the PSN network i know they also wanna make the PSN network alot better then it is now to compete with live.

I will start off by saying I did not read the article or watch the video so this might not apply, but to answer the headline question, no.

I only own a PS3, I do not use home, I do not find it useful and I do not enjoy using it, except for times I get drunk and just pick people out and follow them around, for some reason drunk or high, it is hilarious.

But at the same time people do use it, Sony has the sales numbers as far as home accessories and can adjust budget on it, it's obviously not a system seller but it would be bad PR to just shut it down. In theory it's a decent idea but the virtual world thing in my eyes is lame.

I don't have demographic numbers but I can give my experience from the people I know.

My god daughter and cousins ages 4 - 10 have a wii and ds's, my other sousins 15-21 either have a 360 or both a 360 and ps3 but most only use the 360 for online, and the ps3 to play me since I only own a ps3. Then the ps3 owners I know are my age, 25+, not huge gamers but once were, not because we don't love games but other things take up the time, work, family sometimes, girlfriends, social outings. I use my ps3 for 70% gaming 30% bluray. I would use it for media streaming but I have a computer hooked up to my tv.

The point I am trying to make is I don;t think the ps3 demographic is going to use something like home. I could be way off base but it is my experience.

I logged onto Home three times months ago and haven't been back since. What a waste of resources.

...that's not to say it has no use its just I still don't see the point of using it. Home is one big virtual ad. Even the rooms are there to promote games and companies.

When I turn on my PS3 I want to game...not walk around a big shopping mall.

It's kinda useless to me. I may go on once or twice every 2 or 3 months. It basically just kinda there. the avatars are cool though. All i can really say is spend less time on home, and more time on the PS store. More psp games and more ps1 classics(actually good psp and psx games that is) should be put on the ps store. Go back to focusing on home when the ps store is full of amazing games, like japans ps store.

One of my biggest complaints with Home for me is how much it feels disconnected with the network. It was always my understanding that Home would be an intregal part of the network and that they would not only coexist but would work WITH one another. As it stands, Home just merely feels like a game that I boot into. That's not at ALL what I was hoping for, nor what Sony seemed to insinuate when they first unveiled it. For example, what about the 3D trophy room sony promised us what? 2 years ago? What happened to that? What about accessing XMB within Home to play our own music or videos?

The thing about it is that Sony keeps adding all these new zones to Home, which is fine but what they need to be adding is new features to make the whole experience better/more integrated with the network. That's the only thing that's going to keep me coming back and staying longer than 10 minutes at a time.

My other biggest complaint is loading times. They are beyond ridiculous! It's not like these are overly complex graphics we're looking at. I see no reason that, once these zones are loaded in cache, the system does not access them instantly. Same for when you go into one of the stores! My god, I've loaded the same t-shirts in the clothing stores a hundred times, and yet everytime I go in there, it STILL takes like 2 minutes for all of them to pop up on screen for me to look at.

I'm fine with Home. Haters miss out.

My wife loves Home. She likes to play pool and bowl, play dress up and meet different people etc. She couldn't care less about the fanboy wars or the latest exclusive, DLC or AAA title.

Do you have any clue how many people enjoy Playstation Home? Do you have any idea how much money it makes Sony? Seriously, you'd have to be insane to suggest them closing down Home. It has been a success in every way except to the hardcore gamer.

Well home has potential, I go on it maybe 3 or 4 times a month and its always full of gamers just chatting IMO I prefer playing games but once in a while home is a good application to go on just to relax with friends or make new ones. should it be removed no just because I don't care what happens to it doesn't mean others don't care aswell.

i think a lot of people have misunderstood what HOME was supposed to be.

it's exactly what Sony said it would be: A 3D Social Network.

i've talked to some cool folks in HOME, but i have no desire to spend every day in the place.

for people with like-minded tastes (ie, there are very few anti-Sony fanboys in HOME; that would be rather ironic, actually) who want to chat about the games they enjoy on their Playstations, it's a pretty good service to have for free.

it's actually kind of surprising how many people i've bumped into in HOME that don't know much about Playstation gaming. so many people there have never played or heard of games like Uncharted, Ratchet, God of War, etc, and are constantly looking for info on the latest games.

being the gaming geek i am, i am always happy to oblige them and offer suggestions.

in that respect, i think HOME is working just fine.

could it be better? what COULDN'T? of course it could be better, but what it is works rather well.

One way they could better integrate Home and the network is they could give users the option of having their systems automatically boot up into their Home spaces instead of having to launch into Home from the XMB like a game. If I was launched into Home automatically from boot up, I might be more apt to check it out. Then from there give users full access/use of the XMB from WITHIN Home. When I say full access I'm not just talking about checking messages. I'm talking about having full access to music and video, access to change settings, access to download demos,etc. Everything we can do in XMB, we should be able to do within Home. Give us a virtual flat screen tv in our Home space, let us put in a blu ray, and be able to actually watch it FROM our virtual flat screen! Then we can invite other people over to "watch" the movie!

Also, I think our Home avatar should be able to be crossed over into the XMB and be used within there instead of the lame postage stamp graphic we have to currently use in XMB.

Forcing developers is not a good idea. But it makes sense for the developers of games to add a little more...to "combine" the game with HOME for information, training, rewards, CLAN SUPPORT, brushing up on your swing for EA Tiger Woods.
Like RE5 could use an area for someone wants team up, to talk first before jumping into a game. They have it kind of...but could of made it to allow people aware of you wanting to join up somehow. Rather than fumbling along.

It is still in its early stages. They made the basics a couple years ago, but now they have teams in place making things happen. Hope they hear you and others wanting more. It is a money maker if done right, so it is in SONY's best interests.

i think that we should get the features that were in home to begin with. Game launching for all games not a select few! It could be our solution to a party system somewhat. Also the radios and Tvs would be nice but the stupid copyright sh!t is just annoying.

Obviously people are using it, game developers are using it, and it's growing and making some sweet money for Sony.

Home is great Just wish Sony would enable the voice chat feature again when Home was first lainched. People swore and Sony disabled it, I also wish the theater could stream movies like the theater in the Japanese Home can do. More developers need to come aboard to star working on more rooms personally I would not mind seeing a Bioshock, GTA4 or even a Little Big planet room added to the line up. So far Sony is doing great with it and little by little Home gets better.

It's funny because I don't log on to HOME more than once a month or so. However, when I DO...it is usually quite entertaining. But, I think that most gamers are missing the point of HOME. It was not meant to be THE place to game. It was just meant to be a social network where you could meet NEW people to play games with. I think that it hasn't quite delivered on the promise that was set forth. But, just like any idea in it's infancy, it will take time to see what it grows up to be. Right now, it is tedious at times...fun at others...and at least it is a NEW, FRESH, and FREE concept for gamers who might want to try something a little different. Sony realizes that not every gamer is "hardcore" and is trying to offer an option for them as well. KUDOS to Sony for trying to innovate in a space that seems to often suffer from stagnation.

I am a Ps3 owner and I just don't see the big deal about HOME. The SDF was hyping it up to be the biggest thing ever. It is really boring. Who actually has time to walk around like that. I have tried to get into it but it doesn't seem to have a purpose. People hardly ever talk about it anymore unless it is in articles like this.

Something else I would like to see is more interactive items to purchase for my own living space. For example, instead of having to go to the arcade and wait in line to play bowling, pool, arcade games, etc. Why not give us the option to purchase these things to put in our own living space? That way, we can invite friends over to hang out, play pool, etc? Not only that, what about a pinball machine to put our living space that we can actually play? What about a ping pong table? What about a virtual juke box to play my own stored music? What about a virtual flat screen that would allow me to play my own blu ray or downloaded videos? I swear, the living space (crib) I had in NFL 2K5 was better than this! It had paper football, football trivia, a plasma TV that showed footage, bobble heads, a trophy case, etc!!

Someone please reminds this kid Home is a social networking, if he is only there 15 minutes a week, either he has no friends or he is just not social. I log on to home 1 a day and spend up to an hour just quick chats with friends and make new ones. Then again thats what SOCIAL NETWORKING is.......

It's a free service (yes Raz, it really is free. No one is forcing you to buy anything) that Sony is still making money with so don't hold your breath waiting for it to go away. On second thought, do hold your breath. I love how many of the comments say something like "we gamers don't want Home". Well sorry but many people enjoy it. I'm a gamer and I couldn't care less about cross game voice chat, but I accept that some people want it. If it appears eventually, I hope there is an option to turn it off. I go on Home all the time and enjoy talking to people from other places. It's not a damn game. I wouldn't mind an arena where avatars could fight but there should not be guns allowed in every space, or blunt instruments for that matter. There is already too much griefing and harassment in Home as it is. If you want to shoot someone, play any number of online games. Bah, the continued complaining over Home confuses me. Fact remains that Sony make money back from Home and it's not even out of it's beta yet-surely some kind of record, no?

Another fact is that, despite it being a place many N4G users don't really enjoy there are always effin millions on the thing at all times-so quite a few people must love it! My 13 year old lass and 11 year old lad both love it as well-even the stuff like chess and bowling which they don't like in real life! Maybe it's just not the kind of thing our kind of gamer craves but to close something that's starting to recoup cash and pleases a great many is beyond silly.

Finally, I doubt even Sony quite know where it'll end up. I fare say a few features could arrive that broaden the appeal to more old/experienced gamers but there's just so many different apps they could put in, so many ways and possibilities that I feel Sony are only just starting to implement the first lot right now and it really could be something vastly different in 2 years time-even if it's not for you, it isn't really for me atm, why spoil it for thiose that love it? You don't know-it might end up with loads of stuff we want as well somewhere along the line.

They could even use it as a new way of reaching the gamers on PS3 and have fully interactive press conferences with Q and A sessions in future. Y'know play the prepared video and then have rooms of a set number watching it with someone their end answering a question per person in that room on the other end. They'd get immediate feedback unaffected by the middle men of the media while getting exactly what they want over to us without any problems or travel/accommodation costs etc. Showing films could become big on Home as well one day-a virtual cinema is something that hasn't really been used directly by a film producing companu before-even invites for previews of new, unreleased films could be done as another way to get helpful consumer insigt while offering a bobus to the Home users chosen and winning the invites could give reason to visit Home more often.

Not great ideas, I'm sure, but the point is that's just off the top of my thick head and they must be looking at all manner of uses for Home-for Sony's and it's consumers benefit. Honestly, I don't think we're even scratching the surface yet and I say that as someone who doesn't use Home very much at all-I just think there's a plethora of potential that people are missing just cos, right this minute, Home doesn't press their buttons.

As far as Jrpgs,(Not Counting Multi plat) we have valkkyria chronicles, white knight chronicles(hell yeah cant wait!!!) FFvs13(also cant wait!) but where is star ocean 4(i really was looking forward to having this) The last remnant, Infinite undiscovery, Lost oddessy.

its like we are lacking in this area(especially since all our good jrpgs we wont get for the next year or so.) Also another thing about our jrpgs is that the majority of the ones we actually have are ported over to us from the 360. IF IM MISSING ANY JRPGS THEN FEEL FREE TO POST THEM.

Anyway, home is alright and doesn't need to close but sony needs to stop spending so much money on it and spend it on games for the PS store(ps3/psp games,PS1 classics) at least until we have caught up with japans store. - faster loading times.. I and most people hate long loading times it isolates players. I bloody hate re-downloading the spaces takes way to long normaly leave by the time there done.
- make home gaming orientated.. All the spaces ive gone to have had cheap games.. Played EA golf for a second and thought it was rubbish.
Only succussfull space ive seen so far in home is the red bull space because the game and scenery was so good for home. I noticed people in my freinds list were actually in home playing the red bull airrace.
- Music while in home. gives people a reason to stay longer.

to sum up.. the team behind home need to use what was so succussfull in the redbull airrace and apply the same formula to the other spaces!
The loading times are threatning people out of the home experience aswell.

as home stands it will fail slowely.. the only time i felt home was fun and good was when i was in the redbull air race space competeing for top scores.

Might not be for everyone but the way i see it, especially after the new namco space added with all the arcade games u can play for free. Home gives alot free access to many games u can enjoy.

I only see things improving here on out and there has been so many ppl on as of late in home. I just see it getting bigger and bigger as more devs begin supporting it. How about a new Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Space? I bet activision would shut up seeing how many items will be brought from home alone for that game.

HOME is much more fun with the constant improvements....for anyone that has not been to the BuzzTV HOME site....need to go there....that is the ultimate fun and the Siren HOME site is almost more fun that some full fledged horror games....HOME is 10x more interactive than LIVE will ever be, HOME is really evolving into more than some 2nd Life thing that people love to toss around.
