I never had the original Xbox so i bought Halo CE: for the pc and was astounded by how amazing it was. I then got Halo2 on my 360, which was a step down from CE: but still a godd game. I then played the crap that was Halo 3 and come to the realization that the Halo Series is being milked Reach, ODST, Wars. If ODST fails then i R.I.P. Halo.

halo is still the most played on live title pretty much...sold over at least 9 million.....still holding strong...compared to other fps for as long as it has been out.

Yes, it's overrated. I played all three and walked away with a shoulder shrug.* Now here's where I try to cool the flames* I like my 1st person shooters like Metroid, which is admittedly, is obviously where my problem lies. Now I only mention Metroid because right when the 1st Hao was released everyone started doing comparisons between the two. But comparing their single player campaigns is laughable. That's like comparing Prime 2's multiplayer to Halo's. Which is to say, don't even try. It can't hang. And Halo's mulitplayer aspect, where this game truly shines ( because, come on, it sure as hell ain't campaign ) comes off as the nerd version of a frat boys game of choice. And that's not the game's fault, that's the people playing it. Sorry, but it's true. I know I'm gonna get disagrees all over the place, but hey. To each their own. I'd give Halo 3 an 8. Not at all a bad game, I just don't get why people do back flips over it when a new one is released.

Maybe just a smidgen, at the most. But, in all honesty, not that much.. Halo 1 & 2 were def. overly overly decent & Halo 3 was amazingly fun. The campaign was nifty, the multiplayer was overly decent, forge was awesome, and being able to watch all the replays was swell. Bungie really cares about making the game fun. And they did damn well.

It may not be the best game series ever, but it definitely deserves the praise it has received.

Halo 1 and 2 were brilliant for reasons people have already mentioned, but 3 was really dissapointing (apart from the custom games thing which rocks).

I actually liked the Arbiter from 2. He gave the story more depth which 3 missed out on. And he wasn't a stupid faceless character with no story or personality (i.e. Master Cheif). During Halo 2's final boss fight you really wanted him to win and get revenge.

These games just totally didn't meet expectations, considering this is Xbox's flagship franchise.

The gameplay was always pretty simplistic, but the lack of innovation in the series was really underwhelming. The core gameplay has pretty much gone unchanged, its really just getting stale. This game is just too repetitive for its own good. Its just a twitch shooter.

I think Halo's strengths are its weapons, its vehicles, and its online features.

The environments were always pretty bland(they finally started getting better), the story wasn't very interesting, and some of the aliens were just weak(ok, what the hell is up w/ the wannabe gumbas?)

I feel the same way about the resistance series. Just because these games are FPS doesn't mean they have to be dumbed down.

And to be honest, Golden Eye and TimeSplitters might not be as innovative, but they were just as good as Halo1.
