Epic Scale - The Darkness

A look at how The Darkness manages to make a more meaningful gameplay experience by using the intimate focus of its core storyline to infuse the small central characters to give the player a relate-able context for actions throughout the game.

Trend Polack: "Narrative is an essential part of any game; I don't think anyone ever denies that point. Even the most emergent game design has the goal of presenting some sort of narrative to its players. Story sets the stage for meaning (of gameplay). It frames the player's context for the actions he engages in within a game world.

When I think of The Darkness, I think of Jenny."

I love this game, it was my first on my PS3 and have fond memories of it! I hope they make a sequel!

The_Zeitgeist6144d ago

Yeah they need to make a sequel for sure. I loved this game start to finish. I especially love the part with the crazy brother in the subway. Man I miss ripping off faces and eating hearts.

Nineball21126144d ago

Yeah, I'd definitely buy a sequel. I'm going to go back and play this game again before too long.

It does have a great story to it. I wish it would of had trophies too, but regardless... great game.

Ya this was a fantastic game! I really like the 2K shooters ( Darknees & Bioshock ) they aren't the military / Sci-Fi like everyone else does. They are more like a Fright Night or Tales from the Crypt kinda games and I find those so much more enjoyable.

Sounds like a remaster of The Darkness game may be in the works

The CEO of Nightdive Studios has said in a tweet that the game is currently on the list for a modern update.

isarai989d ago

Oh I'm sold already, Nightdive does really solid remasters, and to this day I still love the darkness

Leeroyw989d ago

Mike Patton of Faith No More did the voice too. It was such a great game.

Quetzll989d ago

Had no idea and i absolutely love FNM and Patton. Gonna go back and play this game.

Snookies12989d ago

The Darkness was awesome! Here's hoping a remaster might lead to a new game!

RaidenBlack989d ago

Darkness 1 is coming to PC! .... OMG!

isarai989d ago

That honestly might be the biggest W here. Darkness with RTX would be neat to see

Excellent news. The Darkness is one of my all-time favorite games and the sequel is great too. I've just recently had a great time replaying them on my PS3. Unfortunately it's kinda hard to recommend them these days, because they're stuck on PS3 and 360 so a remaster would certainly be appreciated. Nightdive has been killing it lately.

DefenderOfDoom2989d ago

Awesome, I loved The Darkness made by Starbreeze who a lot them are now developers at Machine Games . Yes , again thank you Nightdive !

Dagexon988d ago

Now I'm hoping they remaster more of starbreeze's games. Namely the chronicles of riddick games

DefenderOfDoom2988d ago

Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay , is one my favorite gaming experience I ever had . Great game .!

ModsDoBetter989d ago

Excellent games.
Recently ran through The Darkness 2 on PS3 again.

I hated the switch in style when it first came out but they're both amazing games.

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad1342d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g1342d ago (Edited 1342d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

gurp742d ago

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games
