Take-Two: BioShock 2 delay is 'a disappointment'

Nick from PS3Center writes:

Take-Two Interactive, a large scale video game publisher, has officially delayed Bioshock into 2010. In a stock investors conference call, the publisher wholeheartedly admits that the delay is "a disappointment", but insists the move was a "right decision for the product". Strauss Zelnick, Chairman of Take-Two, stated that the delay will allow them to create "a more compelling consumer experience and a better performing product in the marketplace".

Maybe if they didn't add multiplayer it would've been done before 2010.

Seriously, does every bloody FPS nowadays need it? Really?

shadowfox6147d ago

they actually said it wasn't anything to do with a specific console, just the competitive market.

gauntletpython6147d ago

lol @ CTHulu... you need to listen to the conference call - or do fanboys not actually look for facts before posting?

*cough* Fangirls makes more sense

Applegate6147d ago (Edited 6147d ago )

Funny how you're all telling CThulu to listen to what Take 2 officially said but when Remedy comes out and officially says "Alan Wake isn't sandbox anymore because we think its not compatible with the heavy storytelling we're aiming at" all the PS3 diehards come out to say "nah they're lieing, its because of the not powerful enough 360 hardware"

Double standards just simply has to stop. Eat your own medicine from time to time, it may do you some good.

Christopher6147d ago

Honestly, based on what we've seen so far I'm glad they pushed it back. The first was good, though IMHO not as good as System Shock 2, but the second one doesn't seem to be spreading its wings enough and looks to only be riding the coattails of the first. I hope with this added time they keep the good from the first but give the sequel a much needed personality of its own that will get people to actually like it, considering it's unlikely people won't buy it just based on the first game.

SprSynJn6147d ago

"Eat your own medicine from time to time, it may do you some good."

That's TAKE your own medicine from time to time. And I suggest you TAKE that same advice.

"Maybe if they didn't add multiplayer it would've been done before 2010.

Oh stop whining like a brat. Multiplayer will add to BioShock's perfection even more. BioShock has been my favorite game of all time, and I love the first one, and don't curse it for not having multiplayer. However, assuming that the devs can fufill the astonishing work that they've accomplished with the first game, while adding a full fledged multiplayer mode (which by the way, will be unique and kick sooo much ass compared to other fps's, with the inclusion of plasmids) then I would happily wait a year.

All of you whine about how they "should have pushed the release date back to make it better" all the time. Yet when they do, you cry like little babies and demand that it be released earlier, even though the delay will make it turn out to be an even better product. Hypocrites.

Damn, one of the biggest disappointments of the year IMO. Just beat BioShock 1.

FrankFoxJaegar6147d ago

it sucks that you're just now beating it, one of the best games this gen.

MEsoJD6147d ago

hey its cool but for some reason I was more hyped for the first Bioshock.

Maybe its the fact that your a big daddy.

I don't know it just doesn't seem as immersive when its not human.

Whatever I'm still getting it.

Applegate6147d ago

Same for me, playing as a big daddy just turn me on that much, dont know why. But Im telling myself if they chose to go that way its because they kno what they're doing.

Poopface the 2nd6147d ago

If I could replay it right now for the first time It would be awesome, not sucky.

This is becoming more and more of an issue. Everyone is producing these big 'AAA' titles, and the market is flooded with these games during key seasons. Look at July/August - theres almost nothing coming out, why not push games then?

gauntletpython6147d ago

Agreed, the summer months are generally dead. Why not release that stuff then?

blodulv6147d ago

Better around the fall/winter imo. Especially if you live in an area that gets tons of snow and bad weather, not much else to do except for delving into some killer new AAA games. Last winter was awesome.

Ellessdee6147d ago

what if Activision is strong arming other publishers to keep the launch of MW2 free of significant competition? yeah lets all blame Activision. grrrrr.

shadowfox6147d ago

they are also strong arming publishers into creating plastic peripherals. GTA5 to include plastic guns and steering wheels!

interrergator6147d ago

hey might be a good thing they will probably make it better besides saves me money

Next ‘BioShock’ Game Changes Leaders After Development Turmoil

The fourth game in the ‘BioShock’ series has been in development for more than a decade

Bioshock is one of my favourites franchises. I love all 3 games and have played each several times. I even have a room in my house that is loosely decorated around the theme of Bioshock (with a Lighthouse, coral models and postcards styled as though they are from both Rapture and Columbus).

And yet I am going to find it extremely difficult to get even remotely excited about any future episode in the series after all the problems this has had in its development cycle.

Leave the franchise alone. Remaster them again if you have to. Then put whatever talent you have to use on something brand new.

Furesis283d ago

Since ken levine isn't involved i'm not surprised what's going on. i'm more excited for his next game which looks like bioshock. Yet he still works under take2 and they are making bioshock 4 without him, strange situation.

toxic-inferno283d ago

Yes. Judas. Looks brilliant, but it's one of those games that seems to never have had a release date. Instead it's had release windows that keep getting pushed back.

Once it's ready, I'll be there for it though. Ken Levine is an excellent developer.

I get the feeling he dissolved Irrational Games simply so that 2k couldn't tell him what to do. It seems it will pay off, but I feel sorry for those who worked as part of Irrational before it was dissolved, who hadn't independently made a name for themselves.

ActualWhiteMan283d ago

He didn’t even want to make 2, that’s why they did it without him.

Rebel_Scum283d ago

tbh it wouldnt be a Bioshock game without development hell. They all had it.

Michiel1989283d ago

bioshock 2 was 2.5 years after 1, so much of a development hell it was......

-Foxtrot283d ago

"Remaster them again if you have to"

Well apparently they were doing a remake but that got cancelled

Relientk77283d ago

It sucks this game is in development hell because I love BioShock and would love a 4th game. I hope it turns out great, but I guess we'll see.

P_Bomb283d ago

Love Bioshock. It’s too bad what’s going on. At least we have Judas.

Yui_Suzumiya283d ago (Edited 283d ago )

It's been in development hell since 2014. This is nothing new. It saddens me because it's one of my favorite series. At this point, Judas may end up releasing first.

BABI-PANGPANG282d ago

Bioshock 4 (if it ever comes out) will probably still look and play like a Bioshock game, but without Kevin, it might miss that spark that made the originals so special. Honestly, Judas might end up feeling more like the real spiritual successor.

Remember there past attempts at game based show's i do heck i still remember that teenage resident evil trash fire.

anast653d ago

ha. I almost forgot about that.

Jin_Sakai656d ago

Might as well just cancel it.

just_looken654d ago

Unless its batwoman were they right it off

porkChop656d ago

It's 10 years too late for a BioShock film. The world of Rapture would have been perfect for a film. It's actually a good candidate for proper utilization of 3D, for increased depth rather than bullshit popping out of the screen. It could really show off the underwater city that way. But BioShock as a brand is so irrelevant these days that a film just doesn't make sense. Especially considering it would need a big budget and top notch effects to really take advantage of the IP.

gold_drake656d ago

i agree on the bigger budget. all the cgi they'd need for the background.

but i think it would work better as a show. a movie would be too short to establish the story

TheNamelessOne656d ago

Netflix greenlights anything, so that shows me very little faith in the project. Enough to just crap something out as they're, more and more, known to do.

badkolo655d ago

its where b movies go to live, its run by democrats , dont expect anything good from netflix

Knightofelemia656d ago (Edited 656d ago )

I'll laugh if it turns out to be better then the Borderlands movie
