How long did nintendo keep supporting the NES when the SNES came out? Sony is doing the same thing and as long as it keeps selling.......

I'd like to see some titles released here (US) that have been out for some time in JP. Thunderforce 6 especially!!!

If the ps3 is region free does that mean it can play PS2 games from other regions as well?

Why do Microsoft keep supporting Xbo... no wait... Vista (ha, I had to actually restarting my browser despite re installing Vista YESTERDAY). If people keep wanting stuff why shouldn't Sony give them it, I'd rather that than just being left high and try while the company goes on the make a new and improved version with some High number between 6 and 8 at the end.

I still have my fat PS2(7 years old), and is still living and kicking playing SNK fighters having lots of fun! I hope ignition releases KOF 2002 U.M. here...

Why? I don't know...because they can COUNT!!! 10 year life cycles people...which makes it 2010 at least. Get a grip!

1. It's a cash cow for Sony right now.

2. Introduces more people to the PS brand that will most likely migrate to the PS3 when its affordable and with a huge collection of games.

3. Competitor for customers that would otherwise choose the wii or the x360 because of price.

4. Prove once again to devs/publishers/consumers that they Sony are serious about supporting their consoles for 10 years. This is really, really important so that customers are secured in the knowledge that their investment in the PS brand will benefit them not just now but in the long term. They are able to get more out of their investment. For publishers. This is a great incentive for them to invest in PS3 game development becuase they know that PS consoles will be supported for longer years meaning that they are able to publish more games on PS consoles and will be on the market for longer period of time which means that they will be able to sell their games for longer periods of time meaning more money. You only have to look at Madden,FIFA,GH and Rock Band for PS2 as examples. With the investment devs and publishers put into xbox. They are no longer able to get any return from them since 2005 while they are still able to get huge amount of profit from the PS2 still with very small development cost. This is the message that Sony is sending out with their 10 year PS3 cycle plan as well as supporting the PS2 still.

It's making money versus another console of Sony's. Why would they stop supporting that?

What sony need to do is bring back ps3 backwards compatibility with software to get rid of ps2 cause they can get more developers off the ps2, start developing newer titles for sony ps3 console.

Drop the PS2 at the 10year mark, enable backwards compatible for all PS3'S, Price Drop = Win Win Win.

The Ps3 should have launched with complete backwards compatibility on all models and the ps2 should have been put to bed. If they had, they'd be in first place rather than bringing up the rear. They've spread themselves over to many platforms with the Ps2, Ps3, psp, and now the Psp-go which is designed to run along side the psp rather than replace it. They should have put all their resources into the Ps3. What a wasted opportunity...

even today its seeing many game releases, from big franchises such as Harry Potter (even though quality might be abysmal) and Silent Hill Shattered Memories to name a few. I still have my PS2 despite my PS3 being able to play Ps2 games.

I think sony should have kept those PS2 chips on ps3 and found another way to lower down price cause if the ps3 had the ps2 library of games on there sony would still be Dominating.

Bcuz it's an awesome system ever made....
