Why Sony Should Keep Supporting the Playstation 2

Associated Content: "The Playstation 2 launched on October 26, 2000 in North America. It managed to handily defeat the Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo Gamecube and Microsoft's Xbox by a wide margin. Even when the next generation came around with the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, the Playstation 2 still managed to strive."

ALmost 9 years That's Crazyyyyy!

I know kids who are 9 at the momment damn.

Syronicus6191d ago

I can remember playing PS2 games while she was resting comfortably in her bouncy seat. Ah the good old days.

N4GAddict6191d ago

Hopefully, Sony will do something cool to celebrate the 10 uear anniversary next year.

mastiffchild6191d ago

Oh, syronicus! I share the memories! MY youngest is seven and now I think about it I can remember the other two while they were still in the womb from the consoles/games me and mum played at the times(usually accompanied by Gooseberry cheesecake-my missus "preggers food"). All the way back to digging out the Mega drive for some Sonic and Desert Strike for our eldest as the missus was up all the time(when she was big)and it's her fave console(she's still waiting, unlike the rest of us who gave up waaay back, for a new, real, good Sonic!Or for DS to emerge on VC/PSN/XBLA)!

So, yeah, playing PS2 was a part of the little lads first days for us and now he's starting to become a jrpg freak(tip to parents like myself-it really helps with reading skills to play some with your kids as long as they're suitable games)and kicks my arse regularly at more games than I care to think of! This generation of kids are going to be amazing at gaming and most of them will look back to the PS2 as the start of it all like we may the Snes, MD, Speccy or C64. PS2 and the things Sony have done are something they should rghtly celebrate.

Yeah it hurts a little for Sony to keep the PS2 going strong (strictly in terms of the PS3), but why kill a horse that wins derby after derby after derby? I say hold on and support the little bugger until it's just not financially feasible anymore which may be........never 0_o

i think its time to call it a day with the ps2, i see more advertising for it than the ps3

Polluted6191d ago

I guess if people are still buying the hardware/software, they might as well keep supporting it, but I just can't bring myself to spend money on a PS2 game anymore now that I have 2 HD consoles to keep me occupied.

Once in a while a new PS2 game comes out that looks cool (which I could play on my 60 gig), but I can never shake the feeling that I should just wait for the HD version.

SmokingMonkey6191d ago

Because the Wii and PS2 are in direct competition with each other.

Just look at the multiplatform games coming out that are the same on both platforms. Like Ghostbusters for instance, same game.
So as long as people make games for the Wii, I think Sony should just get them ported over.

Do you think Madworld or NoMoreHeroes would sell on the PS2?

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle57d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments
