Hell, Vista sucks bigtime. That's my opinion. They didn't even had a Vista version for MSN ready at launch... Lol. And about 75% of all chipsets are not supported. LOL!

Let me start by saying I have Vista, which was pre-installed on my computer. The thing is the average customer does not want to pay for a separate install, and the only way they will get it is through OEM. I have nothing but good thing to say for vista it is a RAM "whore" so aslong as you have adequete ram your fine. Just give it time and programs will be released that better take advantage.

I think Windows Vista is nothing different from XP, its just XP but it looks nicer. Give it a year and a price drop and more people will buy it. People will contiune to use Windows XP for many years to come.

came in with my new laptop. I mean, I like it, but it's still do pretty much the same as XP did. It's better than XP but not by much.

It's always the same bloody mayhem with every Windows release. First people wait for it to come, then people will trash it. Then comes service pack or 2 and all are using it as they did use earlier versions.

Having said that - Vista will be slow to take off. At work I had all the Vista machines send back (massive corporate company) We won't allow Vista machines on the network until at least service pack 2. Don't trust it, compatibility not up to scratch etc. But that was the same with XP, with 2000, with NT etc.

After two years or so, Vista will take off. In the meantime - XP will be standard - until MS as usually - will make some sort of new equipment useless with XP by refusing to release drivers for it. (Like with NT - no USB drivers - thus forcing people to move to /xp) As with XB by not releasing anything new for it and only focusing on XB360. As will be the case with the 720 when on release no titles will be forthcoming for the 360. If you buy MS and are happy with it - then good. Otherwise, take note, and don't whine when they do it. That is just how there business model works. Vista will not flop. It will fly - just wait for some new hardware to come out and see how MS stops support for XP.

but i don't really hear about the problems, other than most computers not being able to run it. Thats understandable, its the 21 century, people need to upgrade form their ancient pentium 3 computers with 128mbs of ram. Now recently my parents got a new vista computer(its not much more powerful than mine Core 2 duo with 2gigs of ram, i have an athlon 64 dual core with 2gigs of ram running xp media center, and i like it) but it works pretty well.

Either way, ill wait and save up to get vista ultimate, in a year when all the "problems" are gone.

As for these problems, most of those probably happened on low end computers. In order for most people to even run it, they have to upgrade, even then they probably should buy an 800 dollar computer.

Anyhow, it is just a matter of time MS monopoly would begin to show a weakness. Happened with Detroit and the Japanese auto makers and it will probably happen with MS who is the biggest recipient of government subsidies in the country right now. It makes for lack of innovation and the use of strong arm tactics to get your way but, but eventually fear isn't enough. I gave up on MS products a while ago, who needs their computer assaulted by spyware and viruses all the time.
Its funny how some of you MS fans are using the excuse that Vista just needs more time while developers get the hang of things but you go on the PS3 section and chastise them for not using the Cells full potential right away. Kinda hypocritical to me but it's just an observation.

Lighten up folks, MS and Sony are doing well and they will both mess up from time to time. MS is doing what they thought would get them the most money, if it backfires they will do something else.

first off vista fixes all problems with xp, makes it easyier to find files with search/ smart files it looks nicer and has more features

i have used linux ubuntu,xubuntu,kubuntu, mac osx10 tiger and i can say that

linux=sucks nuff said cant do anything on it useless

mac osx10=is good! orginated a few features that are in vista today but is mostly used to create your own stuff like your own music video and web so on which is cool all in the box

vista= microsoft most polished os ever!!!Vista is more for entertainment/gaming and business. i say if they had to work on vista microsoft still needs to work on voice reconition. i have a new logitech mic for vista got it for $35 and overall it worked but there would be times i would say nothing and words would pop up...so thats about all i can find for now

Bonsai1214, but i'm not really hearing any real problems with vista aside from older weaker computers not running it, and I'm not going to think otherwise if someone just say so on here. The same goes for if someone says a bunch of crap about Macs. Im not big on macs but i don't think they suck(i kinda dislike the ipod though).

The only reason i'm waiting btw is im saving up for ultimate, 2 gigs more of ram(i already have a 2 gig athlon 64 bit dual core processor @ 2.00GHz), and i'm uping the graphics card(i currently have an nvidia 6100) all at once.
Even though i could run ultimate right now probably.

Now as for the PS3, i am giving it time as well.
For me mostly its just a financial issue.

Vista will take over eventually. Can't stop that. There aren't many problems with Vista other than with older computers and games.

That said, what really takes the cake on this article is the claim that Microsoft is selling Vista with Office 2007 in developing countries, indicating its a failure. Microsoft is NOT selling Vista for $3. That's Windows XP in that package. And the decision to sell XP rather than Vista isn't an indication of Vista's failure either. Rather, it is an indication that more PC's in developing countries aren't modern enough to handle Vista.

inflating sales figures for Vista has pissed off investors big time, and even regular consumers are finding this out for themselves. No one really wants Vista since it has high spec requirements (i.e. hundreds in hardware upgrades) and the fact that it's invisible software.

The other problem is that the computer market is fairly saturated, and unless tens of millions of PCs start falling apart there won't be any mass uptake of Microsoft's new OS.

are that there some "new" features that m$ claims are there, but if you've been keeping up with other OSs such as linux or 10.4, pretty much everything in vista has already been done. to many, vista is an odd mashing of OS X and linux that has a unique look to it.

however, i have no doubt that vista will eventually become standard, just because when people buy new computers (every 2 to 3 years), they'll hopefully buy computers with decent specs and will be able to run vista

Man their is nothing wrong with Vista at all. My roommates mom just bought a new HP Laptop today and it was $1100 and this thing has everything and Vista premium and I was very jealous. The OS is awesome, it's smooth, it's intuitive and runs very well. I see no problems at all with it and she only has 1GB of memory and they recommend 2GB's. In all honesty anybody who doesn't want to upgrade their computers every 5 something years is weird, anything that is pre-packaged with Vista has the specs to run the OS smoothly

Xp is like 720p its the sweet spot why visa is 1080 we just really aint there yet.

Yeah I never saw any quotes of M$ admitting Vista is a failure, -lol, I think the truth is that Vista isn't a neccessity and you need a upgraded PC to run it properly. XP pretty much gets the job done for the majority everyday users....only users planning on running high spec games really want Vista...but for the Inquirer and M$ haters of course if it isn't an instant success that can only mean that M$ is dead. In 2 yrs when a variation of Vista is being widely used, I'm sure the Inquirer, Linux supporters, and the rest of the M$ haters will have another reason why "M$ is going to die", and 2, 3 yrs after that doesn't happen, well you know.....

Micro$oft is a business - providing goods/service for a profit $$$.

Securing, maintaining or expanding market share is essential for any successful business.

Various tactics such as vendor lockin, OEM, IP or discounting are used to achieve the objective. Those tactics get even worse when a company is a virtual monopoly.

Now Micro$oft has entered the gaming console industry. They don't want healthy competition especially when they've had a monopoly with its Winblow$ crap on the PC for the last 20 years - and dictated their will to us.

But they won't get their monopoly with game consoles as their competitor is a successful multi-billion dollar company with a decade of experience - Sony - unlike the Linux and open source comminity who have never had serious capital investment.

The tide is slowly moving in Sony's favour(growing library, better net service). Once Sony promotes PS3 as a PC Console with Linux and FOSS already installed then they'll finally put the nail in the coffin for M$.

It's unlikely - not impossible - the xbox 360 will become a PC Console because it will reduce the revenue M$ gets from its OS on PCs. A 360 PC console would also force Sony to either create its own sleek & optimized distribution of Linux or turn GameOS into a full OS - which would mean a powerful competitor with Winblow$. Micro$oft really, really, REALLY doesn't want to force Sony to play its trump card.

Let the OS war begin - aka console war - and to the victor the spoils.

I wouldn't be all too surprised if there is some form of cooperation between MS and PC manufacturers. As someone like Dell, I'd be smiling from ear to ear every time a new version of windows gets released as it means people will need to upgrade / buy hardware from me. If MS could make something like Vista run on a 1GHz, 512MB machine, the hardware manufacturers would be up in arms (behind the scenes, of course) about it as it would hurt them real bad. It's all about you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours.

But i have never been a PC gamer, but recently i thought maybe i should. Now i don't have the most powerful computer(amd athlon 64bit dual core 2.GHZ with 2gig of ram, 250gig hard drive, and a Nvidia 6100), but its fairly good.
so i have been thinking about vista for future purposes as well. in a few years time. if i can upgrade my os, my ram 2 gigs, and my graphics card, ill have a fairly powerful computer that will be able to play some great games. Maybe not crysis but other games as well. I used to be totally a console gamer aside from C&C. I want to play some good games.

But my other question is. If i upgrade my computer, will a 4gig, dual core 64 bit athlon 2.0GHZ processor with a good nvidia graphics card and vista ultimate(maybe not, media center is working well for me do the job for most games?

Im amazed at how much MS is getting destroyed this month with bad PR.
I admit i hate Vista and its being sold by every manufacture of computers in the wrong way by selling it with 512megs of ram when 512 turns a 3.4ghz comp into a slow as Sh*T comp.
But how many consumers know you need 1-2gigs of memory to run that new comp at normal speed?
I cant tell if its MS being dumb to release something that needs equipment not ready for the market yet, or the dells and other comp manufactures for not selling vista on 1gig minimum comps.
I say both are at fault but MS more for not making the min requirements higher since anyone with vista knows that it really is the worst thing to have on a computer that doesn't have at least 1.5 memory.
Vista is making lots of people who run local computer shops a bit of money though when they think they have a virus making their brand new computers slow while its just Vista though hehe.

Last time i checked it was the uk equivilent of weekly world news and the other side rack grocery store fake newspapers you know the ones with celeberty weight worry stories and bat child found in cave..

The Inquirer is pretty much trash reporting, much like it's namesake here in the US.

I can understand that vista will (or if you believe is) great and dx10 is a amazing tool but i am currently a XP user and i have a decent computer that runs at a rate that in my personal opinion is fast.
Now looking at vista i see the dx10 and its pulling me to lean towards a upgrade but thats only in the games department which i would still have to upgrade my computer to be fully dx10 compatible and after that vista would have taken my computer that ran what i considered fast and slowed it down so i would then feel the need to replace everything else and eventually have built myself into a entirely new computer.
which is fine some people are right and there are many who need a new computer but it is hard for me to justify taking a computer that runs fast and slowing it down.
Fact of the matter is you could have 2 equal in every way crazy fast top of the line computers load XP on one vista on the other and the XP one would be faster. That i guess is what i would call the "problem" with vista in my own personal opinion.

I respect MS for making Windows OS, afterall all of us use some version of it as I mostly use WinMe when at home and it supports mostly every game uptill 2005...that is another thing MS can't keep good at a gaming console, they ain't hardware guys, and hell no they aren't gaming guys either, also that Vista is mostly like HDTVs, its use ain't gonna frequently happen untill two years from now the only thing is that a TV is long lasting and will retain its importance but an OS clearly disolves away, so if Vista looses market today and delays for the next two or three years, its just gone. MS has to admit, their PC division is just vanishing and they are partaking in this side big time !!!

Consider this: Sony tried to push the PS3 on the consumer as well, and it backfired....BIG-TIME. So, they had to fall back on their trusty PS2, because it's the only moneymaker they have in the gaming sector, ATM. See? ANYTHING can be twisted into a negative. :o

The problem is that it is a resource hog, i'm all for upgrading my computer to play the latest games but c'mon this is JUST an operating system. Can anyone tell me why they do not try optimise with each product? It'd be like starting out playing Crysis, and by the time you get down to the third title in the series it ends up looking like Wolfenstein 3D. Windows should be made better with each product not worse.
