Online Multiplayer is Under Threat

It's true: online multiplayer is awesome. It doesn't matter what genre you're playing, but when you can test out your skills against a human mind rather than an A.I, games tend to go up another gear, becoming twice as fun and twice as rewarding. Thus it can be quite frustrating to play through a great single player story only to click across to the multiplayer mode to enhance and continue your experience and discover no one online. Or equally as bad, people online but from so far away across the planet that the gameplay turns into a debilitating lag fest.

Very true about not being able to find games online for the lesser known games. You have to wonder why some of the developers bother with it. I saw that Just Cause 2 has no multiplayer... good. I'll stick to CoD online thankyou

Online multiplayer is something i prefer to avoid most of the time as its full of kids screaming obscenity down there mics and ruining the experience for everybody. I make sure I only play with friends but sometimes this is impossible. Games should start including split screen support more as there was nothing better than a night in with some food and drink 3 mates and timesplitters 2. Hell I do it today.. I prefer TS2 over all my other shooters as its hell of a lot more fun and it don't have online..

I would take an age filtration process, so you can bar people who are under 20 from being aloud to connect to your game

mastiffchild6180d ago

But sucks, that's impossible to implement and unfair in the first place. I know both plenty of decent teenagers to game with AND obnoxious older gamers! Lots of people are ok and you can mute the idiots if you must but I don't think an age filter would be the answer at all-I'd much rather Live and PSN had a more strict and governable report and removal system.

As it stands we are often either scared or too timid to report offenive gamers but if we won't police ourselves(partly as it's word against word in many cases)noones gonna do it for us. If people do get caught, however, being abusive, racist, homphobic(or whatever else)they should have their ID/ISP address suspended the first time(say for a week) and if they reoffend kick them altogether.

I, a couple of years ago, would never have thought I'd have the need to say this kind of thing but some of the things I've heard and seen have been terrible and unacceptable in real life so why is it OK online?

Yer it sucks with Echoes of Time. There's hardly anyone online on it and it's definitely hard to get a whole group of four together.

It's gonna come down to region regarding lag, this article is on an Aussie website. I play a lot of Metal Gear Online and Aussie players are kicked upon entry as they are lagged by a good 500ms. Doesn't help that they are classed as PAL rather than NTSC territory so as a result they suffer cronic lag connecting to european servers.

I agree with this and even though I spend most of my time doing SP I feel that I will be cheated out of a worthwhile experience if I don't jump into the multiplayer while the game is still hot and fresh. For instance I don't expect anyone to be playing Perfect Dark Zero when I pick it up today, yet it has bots and I can just relieve the N64 days of playing it that way and split screen.

Though I can see how this is a big threat to those games that pass under the radar for many people, leaving those who buy it on day one with no one to fight or anything. Which is usually sad and generally it's up to the gamer who got it to try and spread good word about it through a review and what not.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing45d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9245d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit45d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing45d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9245d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
