Exclusives, Who Cares?

Ever since the first video game console or personal gaming computer graced the entertainment landscape, there have been exclusive games and titles attached to them. Exclusives helped define what each system was capable of, helping consumers decide what console would best suit them. Games like Super Mario Bros. and Sonic The Hedgehog were unique to their respective systems and brought out a loyalty that was unrivalled and spurred on one of the first console wars, birthing something known as 'Fanboyisim'.

i wish i had a PS3, 360 and Wii
so i won't miss out on great games.

no one but myself to blame

chrisnick6169d ago (Edited 6169d ago )

this is an expensive gen, i have a 360 and a ps3 and i obviously prefer on over the other, based solely on experience and value. Not everyone can afford all so they make a decision and defend it wholeheartedly. that is why fanboyism makes sense(except for the extreme trolling of course). the last thing i wanna see or hear after spending thousands on my system and its games, is someone telling me i made the wrong choice, hence, flame on.

BulletToothtony6169d ago

it was ALL about exclusives.. now that the ps3 has the best exclusives.. NOW it doesn't matter anymore.. haha sure fanboys.. SURE!!!

Bnet3436169d ago

Well if you have all systems I don't see how you would care. But exclusives matter to some degree when it comes to someone choosing one system over the other. All I have to say is, just get all systems if you can and you'll be alright.

socomnick6169d ago

we'll the 360 has more exclusives this fall now.
but thats besides the point, the point is that usually the best games every year are multiplats so exclusives don't really matter unless they are exceptionally good.

ThanatosDMC6169d ago

After reading the article... somebody's just jealous about not having a PS3.

Yeah, i didnt read it.

SnuggleBandit6169d ago

of course exclusives matter...its why or why not to pick up a console. I have a ps3 and a gaming pc...so i can play 99% of games made. (ps don't care for the wii sorry)

Fleet Fox6169d ago

"now that the ps3 has the best exclusives"

lulz *rolls eyes*

Traveler6169d ago

Considering over half of the games in my collection are exclusives I would have to say yes, exclusives matter.

Exclusives tend to be of a higher quality than the majority of multi-platform games. I simply wouldn't want to see exclusives go away.

Syronicus6169d ago

Then save up and do your best to get them all. I only say this to encourage people to become multiplatform gamers because then you have the best of all three worlds. One console owners are not all fanboys but those who own one console and slam the others are. It's a shame when people mock other consoles when it is the games we play, not the consoles.

Downtown boogey6169d ago (Edited 6169d ago )

Everyone SHOULD care! Wouldn't you want to get the most bang for your buck? You should see which platform has the best exclusives you want to/are gonna buy and then go for it.

EDIT
@ FleetFox
Picked the wrong console?

callahan096169d ago

Exclusives matter even more to me as an owner of all 3 consoles. I love it when nice new exclusives are announced for all 3 systems, and I hate it when any of them are announced as going multiplatform. I bought 3 different systems so I could play all their games. When the exclusives dry up, I'm stuck looking at my systems and wondering why I bought 3 when I could have just bought 1 of them.

It's just most of us are not so lucky. I own all there just because I have to. All the consoles have their merits, some people just get blinded and feel the need to defend their purchase.

SuperM6169d ago

Me too. If all i got this gen was multiplatform games then this gen would suck. Exclusives matter as much as ever.

also from the article: "As of this year, Metal Gear and Final Fantasy are not just exclusive to the PS3, which means more people can get their hands on these awesome games"

As far as i can recall, Metal Gear has been on xbox before, and MGS4 is still exclusive for the PS3. And that game is a masterpiece, would have been a disaster if i missed out on it.

As long as you see great exclusives being made then exclusives matter. And they matter even more when you see exclusive PS3 games almost always look better then all the multiplatform games. When Sony announce a game im always excited, because i know it will be a quality title, and it usually looks very graphically impressive. If any other company announce a title, i will not get excited until i see gameplay because there is really no other company that almost exclusively publish great games. If you look at Activision for example, they have their Call of Duty games etc that are good, but they also publish alot of mediocre titles aswell. Pretty much every publisher does that.

herukuti6169d ago

pertaining interactive media exclusives are more than just about graphics and what may be perceived by a non gamer as similarities between console releases. to the introspective gamer the differences are great and add to the culture that is differing methods of interaction with media presented exclusively on formats that are entirely different regardless of how they may be perceived in similarities.

there is no exclusive that is similar to another regardless of format similarities.

multi-format titles fall under the same banner due to good developer integration of format to end user.

Carbide76169d ago (Edited 6169d ago )

WHO CARES? Fvck, I care!
Hell, if it wasn't for exclusives, do you really think there even would be this many consoles? It would be the most boring thing ever. What kind of asswipe writes these kinds of articles, wow.

EDIT: who's the freakin' clown with the chronic disagreeing problem, it's getting anal.
