IGN: Prototype Head-To-Head

The Head-to-Head is designed to let gamers know which version of a multiplatform game is worth their hard-earned money. IGN breaks down each segment of a game and then tells you which platform reigns supreme when the dust settles.

does the 360 version really look that much darker than the ps3 version?

Or am I trippen? lol

Kamikaze1356138d ago

But tweaking the brightness and contrast settings on your TV can fix that...though you'll have to tweak them when playing any other game =X

Get the definitive "PC" version.
If you don't have a powerful enough PC, then get the "PS3" version.

QFT.

In the end, the graphics and control options put the PC version on top with a coin toss between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.

Overall
1. PC
2. PS3/360 (tie)

This was from the actual article

caladbolg7776138d ago (Edited 6138d ago )

The end result was an obvious attempt not to step on anyone's toes. The author was seeking to plug the PC version of the game while at the same time trying to NOT downplay either of the console versions. If you go by the author's final analysis, sure, they're the same. If you go by what the author said throughout his article, though, there's a slightly different tale.

Quoted from the article...
Price Point:
1. PC
2. PS3/360

Content and Control:
1. PC
2. PS3/360

Presentation:
1. PC
2. PS3
3. 360

Where Pricepoint and Content/Control are concerned, the 360 and PS3 are a wash. When factoring in the Presentation (visuals), the author noted that they enjoyed the slightly brighter and "more attractive" PS3 version.

This was from the actual article, too. Spin away JOLLY, but as a consumer, we ought to know which version of the game gives us the most for our money. In my opinion, this is not often the PS3 version (as the PS3 version of multiplats has historically been the "inferior" version), but in this case where the console version is concerned, the PS3 gets the "WIN" (according to IGN).

When you get comparisons by somebody not in love with a particular console but rather the PC, you get a much more fair assessment of what console is producing the better graphics and such. Not saying it is all about the console as we know that its a development thing but you at least get a feeling for what console the game runs better on. PS3 wins on this one by a whisker. Its odd to, I thought all the other sites were saying that this game was better on the 360?

I only have a PS3 and I chose this game over INFAMOUS because i thought the powers and the mature theme would give me more entertainment. After I beat it and unlocked all the powers it got boring EXTREMELY fast. I even sold gta4 right before i got this game thinking that it was the only open world fix i needed but i was wrong.

I just sold it 2day for MGS4. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME..trust me. The first playthrough is pretty fun, but this game is BY NO MEANS worth a buy. The only people who would thk this game is worth $60 are crazies with bad taste( a.k.a Transformers 2 lovers, lol) Not ta be an a-hole, but i wanna save u guys from making the same mistake i did.

SillyBastid6138d ago

that was THE MOST pointless article I have ever read... They pretty much told us that the computer has a keyboard and both 360 and PS3 do not. Thanks IGN!

Traveler6138d ago

IGN Head-to-heads are always kind of shallow. They don't go into much detail.

Anyway, PS3 and 360 versions look nearly identical, but the 360 version is a little too dark on the default settings (which can be adjusted).

So, it doesn't really matter which version you get (if you plan on getting it). Just get it for the system you own or the system you prefer.

Pixel_Addict6138d ago (Edited 6138d ago )

There are quite a few things better on the PS3 version such as more objects have self shadowing etc, but it hardly matters because Prototype's city environments (buildings etc) are so bland it looks like rows of rectagular blocks with windows. It completely defeats the purpose of wanting to have an open world game in the first place.

You want a better open world game or a better game period people are better off buying inFAMOUS or Red Faction. So basicly, saying the PS3 version is better is like bragging about who has the nicest looking turd. Because we all know Angelina Jolie does.

Ranking The Coldest, Most Ruthless Protagonists In Gaming

Not all video game protagonists are sweet, jolly, or wholesome. Folks like Agent 47 are cold, ruthless, and reserved and it shows.

cloganart643d ago

I'd like to believe Joel's situation is more about turning into a calloused survivor in a cold-hard world who may have made selfish decisions. Not inherently ruthless.

Ah, fond memories of strangling all the people in their hotel rooms in Hitman 1

Lara Croft, Nathan Drake etc, cos they pretend to be the good guys but are mass murderers that show no remorse.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos725d ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger88725d ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies725d ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
