IGN: Dreamkiller First Look

From Mindware Studios, the makers of Painkiller: Overdose, comes Dreamkiller, another over-the-top shooter where you dive into the dreams of patients to blast away at their inner demons. The premise sounds slightly like the setup in The Cell starring Jennifer Lopez and Vincent D'Onofrio, since you play as a psychologist, named Alice Drake, with the ability to hop into patient's minds to cure them of their mental afflictions.

With each patient and associated nightmare stage come different environments, enemies, and weapons, so hopefully there's an interesting assortment of the bizarre to plow through as the game moves on. No word yet on whether it'll include a chain-smoking Vince Vaughn or form-fitting psych suits.

I like the sound of this. But didn't a game come from the makers of Painkiller over the last year anyway?

AVault: Dreamkiller Review

It's unfortunately very repetitive and not very addictive, and Mindware has made some questionable design decisions, such as the lack of a manual save system. As a result, the game is better for stress relief than anything else, a source of mindless entertainment as you blast away at hordes of bad guys.

Aeropause: Dreamkiller Review

Dreamkiller is an unapologetic throwback to the shooters of several years ago. It is fast and furious, and you will be tested at every point in the game. It can be a lot of fun when things are firing on all cylinders, but with the average visuals and nagging bugs, your frustration level will rise. At the end of the day, Dreamkiller just plays out as an average shooter.

I might have to rent the X360 version when it comes out. Sometime I miss the simplified gameplay of the classic FPS.
