iPhone 3GS graphics approach 'full console' quality

Apple's iPhone 3GS games are soon set to feature notably better graphics - with improved shading, weather effects and more - in addition to being faster, smoother and packing in a far better multiplayer experience, according to one leading mobile gaming developer.

TechRadar recently caught up with Exient's Dean Bilotti, a specialist iPhone coder at the mobile games development studio, who shared his thoughts and excitement regarding gaming on Apple's new iPhone 3GS.

Bilotti is clearly excited about the graphical improvements, processor speed-boost and the multiplayer capabilities opened up to games devs with Apple's latest smartphone. Read on to find out why...

Its not a gaming handheld if doing nothing apparently kills the battery.

ThanatosDMC6203d ago

Yep, anyone played the Sonic game on here. It's hard to control and not to mention battery drains fast.

stop and cease apple!!

quit with versions adding one thing at a time, we anit all thick!

Tarasque6203d ago (Edited 6203d ago )

Exactly, bad thing is people keep buying this overpriced crap. It's like apple is saying lets see how much money we can milk from people before they realize they are pretty much buying the same stuff over and over. Ever since i have 4 ipods go bad in a year i will never buy a apple product again.

The iPhone's appstore simply puts every other phone to shame. I'm no iPhone fanboy but that is the truth. When they say "There's an app for that", they truly meant it. Theres pretty much an app for anything.

I thought it's still not as powerful as the PSP?

Elven66203d ago

According to SEGA the original first gen iPhone is as powerful as the Dreamcast, PS2, PSP, DS, etc which I believe is a load of bull.

Ju6203d ago (Edited 6203d ago )

The PSP still has a greater fill rate then the PowerVR in the latest 3GS, but, well, the 3GS has shader support while the PSP has not (but its a custom GPU anyway, not sure how to compare them). These guys have some interesting details and links to the subject: http://www.hardcoreware.net...
The PSP also has a lot of custom HW to do things like video decoding and such, while the 3GS runs a traditional "computer" architecture (CPU + GPU + SW only).

Kakkoii6203d ago

There's no way in hell the iPhone would be more powerful than a PS2, or even come close.

Megahertz are hardly the best judgment of a processors ability. If it was, then ATI's graphics cards would be completely owning Nvidia's due to their much higher clock rate.

Probably down to the high cost of gaming. Controllers and racing wheels can cost as much as consoles.

Reaper22_70d ago

This is why there will always be competition in gaming. The possibilities to make huge profits is just too enticing.
