The PS3 HDD being encrypted is a pain. I spent two days trying to access mp3's and photos stored on mine after I got the YLOD. Got the PS3 repaired by a console repair company and was able to get access to the save games and other files. I'll definitely be playing about with this program.

It should be "No hablo" but that would mean "I do not speak".

"No hablo espanol" is the correct way to say it.

PS3 HDD Toolbox es un programa para facilitar el cifrado y descifrado del disco duro de la PS3. Utiliza el metodo de knightsolidus y por lo tanto es necesario tener la PS3 para cifrar y descifrar.

Translates to:

PS3 HDD Toolbox is a program to facilitate the encryption and decryption of the hard disk of the PS3. Use the method knightsolidus and therefore it is necessary to have the PS3 to encrypt and decrypt.
(That is the text at the bottom)

From the Information tab:

Now with your PS3, you can:

* Playing games for PS3 and PSX
* Playing games for PS2, if your PS3 has 4 USB and card reader
* Install linux (albeit limited)
See films by USB or through a media server
* Load copies of PSX games (and if the console is PS2 compatible), opening the console
* Load copies of PS2 games via USB (and bad videos slowed compatibility)
* Decrypt your hard disk to gossip

I still don't quite get it though, just for getting your HDD to do stuff...?

Doesn't ps3 already play ps2, ps1 games and is able to play movies from usb via external hard drive and can have linux installed. I know my 60g does unless I am missing something. Oh I guess maybe the pirated ps1/ps2 games.

Does this mean I can finally get my save data off of my broken PS3? Before, windows couldn't read the PS3's hard disk because of encryption...I wonder if now this allows windows to "see" the data on there?

Please, please, please, tell me it is true!!

FantasyStar6134d ago (Edited 6134d ago )

That what it sounds like yes. It sounds like we can finally get our save data from our broken PS3s. An impossible feat until now.

EDIT: I'm going to try fiddling with it right now. I'll post my results later.

EDIT: MOTHER ****ER! I don't have space! I'll have to free up some space. Goddamnit damnit....*goes to backup porn files*

@FantasyStar

Please let me know how it turns out man!

Thanks!

FantasyStar6134d ago (Edited 6134d ago )

Right now, I'm extracting the data off the HDD in "encrypted" form. It's taking a while. I've had the process going since last night which is about 7 hours ago, and I only have 17.6GB extracted so far.

The good news at least is that the PS3 HDD Toolbox software recognizes the PS3 HDD while Windows does not. That's a pretty huge step in itself.

*Playing Games for ps3 and psx:/ does that already.
*So if I have a 80gb, 4 usb hub and card reader, I can play a ps2 game??/
*Load copies of psx games, so this only applies to 60gb launch?
*watch movies through usb, media server. PS3 could do that already.

Seriously, I don't really see anything useful for this software:/
