Mass Effect Insanity Explained, May not be Locked in ME2

One gripe among hardcore Mass Effect players is that its toughest difficulty was an unlockable - after playing through the game twice. A design lead explains why, and "insanity" may not be locked in ME2.

On the Mass Effect forums, Christina Norman, lead system designer, said that Insanity difficulty was made unlockable, because it was so difficult a player needed the experience of already playing through the game in order to complete it.

I'd prefer it to start on insane for the achievement.

Can't wait for this, it's gonna be GOTY 2010 imo.

I just started playing Mass Effect on PC and I love it. I do wish they had left the option to use a controler in though. Oh well getting use to keyboard and mouse again.

oh well, keyboard and mouse is better suited. Also, the pc version is so much better than the 360 version!

ChozenWoan6172d ago

Get a Saitek, they have programmable gamepads and controllers.

I had to pick up a 360 controler because I'm running Vista 64 bit it is the only one I could make compatible. It works great on Left 4 dead. Keyboard and mouse is good for ME though.

On topic. I don't know if I am good enough to start off any game that says insanity level. Controler or not.

I don't usually mind having to beat a game once to unlock the hardest mode, but twice is ridiculous. ME really pissed me off for being so darn easy. I could beat that game in my sleep. I got bored of it a while into the second playthrough, though. It only seemed to get easier. The story in ME was great, but the combat really lagged because the AI was just so darn stupid. All they did was waddle back and forth and yell "I will destroy you!" over and over again. Hopefully they really will improve the hardest diff. in ME2.

Im glad BioWare is taking some time to really make the AI smarter. Insanity on ME1 was really horrible, it would take FOREVER just to kill a Krogan! Just like in the interview, Insanity in ME1 did not make the enemies smarter, it made them tougher. The bosses would take a million shots just to die.

anast529d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine529d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast529d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman529d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast529d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave777d ago (Edited 777d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
