PSP Go: the iPhone and iTouch competitor

Nometet.com "Sony America's PR manager, Al De Leon, has stated that the new PSP Go could allow development of other types of applications from both a gaming and non-gaming angle, like that seen on the iPhone or iTouch. With this announcement, this week, could this mean that the days of the Apple's monopoly over the handheld multimedia experience is coming to an end?"

With the iPhone recently having a price cut, has the gimped "premium" product really got a chance?

You have the PSP-3000 that won't be discontinued and the new PSP Go. I believe Sony is trying to have the PSP-3000 battle the DSi and the PSP Go battle the Ipod. Don't forget guys, a 16GB Ipod is $299, $50 more than a PSP Go. Buy.com has a 16GB M2 card for $60. So for $310 you can have a 32GB PSP Go, $10 more than a 16GB Ipod.

Sony has realized how much Apple is making with people playing games on their Ipod and Iphone, Sony naturally wants a piece of the pie. So off the back people who do not have a PSP currently might consider getting a PSP Go. The people who DO have a PSP currently will need to be further convinced.

I think if Sony did their version of the Apple's App Store to put in the PSN that would convince people to upgrade.

Noobkilla the 16 gig is 199. I know I just bought it. Granted you need a contract but I am a firefighter and get a discount so in the end it's a cheaper plan then I had before and 3g is actually good. I own the PSP 3000 and love it to death. Plus (fun fact) The new Iphones can play movies. Many of the blurays I bought for PS3 have digital copies. I currently have The incredible hulk, The dark knight and Walle on my phone and it's about 1/3 full with all the music and other stuff I have as well. So imo for a compact, good quality phone with way more options and bells and whistles then the PSP. I love my PSP don't get me wrong. Without it I would never have been able to enjoy Chains of Olympus and many other amazing games. but for all around usefulness (And cost value) the Iphone is better

The DSi also has non-gaming apps. The majority are crap but everyone's waiting for Flipnote Studio. I reckon Sony will copy it if it's a success.

Can the browser handle google voice?

If so, you have a free phone when you have wifi

the browser of psp can barely handle anything - it is a painful to use.

for this reason alone the psp can never compete with the ipod touch
