Slant 6 revealed a few days ago that patch 1.5 is coming soon for SOCOM: Confrontation. We know. The game has been out for many, many, months and it's still being patched in an attempt to make it worthy of being shipped to begin with.
But the bigger piece of SOCOM news is that the 1.6 patch will bring with it free DLC. And, TheGamerAccess.com is giving away one copy of the game.

Last year I wrote an article titled, The State of SOCOM. I discussed my
love and history for the beloved third person shooter that helped pioneer
online multiplayer on consoles. It has been six years since we last had a
new SOCOM game.
Baffles me as to why they have not done anything with this franchise. Seeing as how it was #1 on the official PlayStation poll.
With all the trash put up weekly on the App Store why has nobody done a clone of this yet. I've been playing Defiance as my go to 3rd person since 2013 but still nothing like that old school Socom/Socom 2 up all night gameplay.
the only game on that list that's like socom is wild land if you want socom type games then you will have to invest in a PC
RAINBOW SIX: is the closest you'll get to Socom.
Also, in response to @lookatthisi
They let go the creators, and I think socom is a game that's hard to clone even the creators had a hard time making Socom 2, Socom 3.

"Would you purchase a game you can’t play for a single penny? Video game retailer GameStop seems to think that it is worth trying to sell to this market."
Depends the situation. Usually if they have a trade in X and get Y bonus for preowned purchases, a store will let you have the excess credit if you make 1 purchase and 1 cent is cheap enough where I wouldn't have to bother returning it or eating the cost out of laziness.

Stan replied passionately, sadness creasing his face, “they’re shutting us down. Offline, man, off-fucking-line. I dedicated my life to this, and it’s just ending. This is the last battle.” - PSLS
MAG will be missed, my all-time favorite shooter. They're shutting servers down in January.
Socom is really fun when you play it with a friends. Yes, the graphics, and menus are crap, and lots of other things.. but i just hope the patch will fix most of these issues.
Hold it right there buddy.
The graphics are not crap. They are pretty tight actually.
Except when you wear goggles & a beanie cap.
Then it's just awful clipping.
There are some graphic problems in the field but all in all
It looks good. HD matters friend.
I know a lot of people passed on the game, and for good reason. Confrontation was launched prematurely with tons of glitches and lack of features. Because of this the fanbase took hits and sales sunk. But give props to Slant Six for fighting through the hate and try to make people happy.
1.50 brings Tournament ladders, the last missing game feature
1.60 brings Free DLC
The only thing left is maps. I don't know what Slant Six means by "major content/release pack" but if I were Slant Six I'd release every Socom II map (that's not already available). That should put the pack at around 15 maps, and they should price it for $5.99 (even though it will probably be 9.99). This would easily suck people back in.
The game is fun as hell, and to be completely honest, is the only game I own that's in my Playstation 3 consistently. And I own over 60 games.
Once 1.5, 1.6 and the Map DLC is released, Confrontation will easily remain one of the best shooters on PS3. If you havent tried it yet, give it a try.
Usually when I look at the comments for a Socom article, there's a bunch of people acting like Socom hasn't been improved at all by these patches when the reality is that the game has seen major improvement since launch. Granted, much of what has been done since launch should have been done prior to release but I blame Sony more than I blame Slant 6. I got tired of CoD 4 a long time ago and I got tired of Killzone 2 even faster, but I still play Socom because it has tactical depth that no other shooter can touch. I agree with those who say HD makes this game look better than good, plus the use of sound with the (very high quality) mics is outstanding. I'm always happy to see a new patch is on the horizon and free DLC is the right price for me. If you're a run and gunner you might not get into it but for those who want something more from a shooter besides mindless action, Socom is still the king... at least until Operation Flashpoint 2 comes out.
it's a shame they released such a buggy game cus now it's had all these patches (and with these to come, 1.50 looks to fix any issues i still have with the game :D) it's a very fun game to play.
