To me this is very interesting and a sign of smart things to come from Sony. As a lot of the Kotaku posters are wisely pointing out Sony is a hardware company, and the XMB and PSN are huge accomplishments when you consider what they offer, from a company that is not specialized in software. The main headline from Sony's corporate pow wow is they are striving for complete product unity and for the PSN to be a major part of this unity. That means that a Sony camera can easily talk to a PS3, TV, Walkman, or PC or likewise any combination. The way I see it is all Sony devices being united via one interface (XMB) and one network (PSN maybe a different name). This opens up many possibilities. (pure gold below vvvvvv)

Imagine taking a picture with your Sony camera, then using wifi (assuming the camera has wifi), to wirelessly upload that picture to the PSN so you family at home can see it on their PSN enabled TV, PS3 or PC. Or say your friend is walking in the park with his Walkman (or maybe even Sony Ericsson phone), all he has to do is connect to the internet and through the PSN (as long as he is on your friends list) he can see that awesome picture of a police horse jumping over a taxi. This could be applied to video as well (there would have to be a size limit). Not only could this be done with a camera but with any PSN enabled Sony device to any other PSN enabled Sony device. Now imagine that your entire home video/music/picture library is now available on the go through a Sony wide remote play system. So, say you are in London and you want to watch your favorite movie on your PS3 or PC, Heat, simply connect your PC or Walkman to the PSN via wifi and voila your are watching your favorite movie. If you have movie purchased on the PSN video store you could also access that from your Walkman or PC since the purchase is tied to your PSN. With this feature you could also check/send messages from/to your friends on your PSN. This kind of service is offered in parts by other devices (iphone/itouch, PC's, etc) BUT... not all together under one brand. Sony is one of the only companies that can do this since they make many different types of hardware. Having it all as one system makes it much more appealing (and marketable). This would be a HUGE selling point for Sony's products and easily justify their sometimes higher price (but also higher quality). If you had to choose between a device with this network and a device without, the choice would be obvious. Then once you have a Sony/PSN product you would be more inclined to by other Sony products so you could use the service through all your "media" devices. I hate to gloat but this is pure genius.

(BTW, yes, I am aware this would take a considerable amount of money and time to set up but Sony has a good base to work with in the PSN.)
