wow... this is great! I love Sony updates.. they are so relevant.

Finally Sony listened to their fanbase and gave us the following new features and update:

* Store now support 11pt fonts.
* Store now support blue font color.
* Gamer picture will have a 1px shadow.
* Mandatory Game Install font will now support red text for some 1st party games.
* Guide will now load 0.01 ms faster.

free update suck because everyone charge for "free" console firmware updates... I also hate the updates that are relevant like the ones that lots of PS3 owners being asking since the release of the PS3... you know like in game XMB, cross game invite, cross game voice chat, and a party system... please I beg you to never release those updates Sony.. don't listen to our cry.. instead keep ignoring us and releasing fonts updates.

This is a FW for the latest games coming, the devs make new games already with the latest firmware, so Sony has to update before they come out.

usually when an update is available you cant get into the playstation store without downloading the new update. But I haven't updated yet and am in the playstation store. maybe its only with certain updates. I don't know

can someone answer this for me: the early updates that sony had your psn account wouldn't sign on until it was installed but recently, the last 2 updates for me i'm able to sign and not tell me there are new updates. Did sony change this recently and why?

It's probably a smaller update to improve the XMB or to prepare the hardware for an even larger update. Kind of like building a foundation.

Have you noticed? The last Playstation 3 firmware updates were only some poor software optimizations but they increment their update name by 10, not by 1. Why do they go from 2.70 to 2.80 whereas it's a insignificant update? Why isn't it 2.62 or 2.71?

Maybe because their are preparing the battleground for their 3.00 update. So there will be another 2.90 lame software update in September and then they will be able to unleash the Fury.

Maybe I haven't noticed it before, but has Game Settings always consisted of "PS Upscaler" and "PS Smoothing" options? - Why can't they just write the specifics on the update beforehand so we don't have to guess for a couple of days :P

Umm can someone please explain these "Crap" graphics for Ghostbusters?
I just recently bought the game and i guess because i don't waste my time looking for minor flaws i must have missed them.

Seriously though, i watched a friend play it on the 360 and i bought it for the PS3 and i see no dramatic difference between the two.

On topic, i see no new features in this update but i wasn't really expecting anything since Sony didn't bring up the firmware during E3.

to take up my gaming time, since of course no psn play without waiting on this first. meh.............

Maybe one day the consoles will be on equal playing fields as far as online play goes someday. A man can dream. I can't wait to play some PS3 with my buds and chat with my crew without having to worry about other players.

Also, the XMB has always been fast for me. I think you all are grasping for strings.

The only thing I noticed was the trophies synced faster but besides that nothin really.

ive notice sometimes they update the speed of loading on the XMB, then after a while it slows down, so they come out with another one to speed it back up again, just wonder if they didnt come out with these updates, your ps3 will be very slow. think it about it for a second

that is a large improvement. You can now press the PS button to quickly exit the cross game chat window at any time. Before, you had to exit the entry window to exit, or exit the chat entirely. Now, BAM, instantly out at any time.

I had an issue after the update (2.80), the drum set did not sync. after unplugging, changing batteries and an absurd amount of cursing , I discovered that the drum set was detected as game controller 7, so I just re assign it to #3 and it worked!!! just in case someone has a similar issue. regards

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

So now there's certifiable proof that Ryan was in fact "fired", as opposed to when it was first announced that he "retired", in order to save face.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
