IGN is used to impressive resumes in this industry, but it's safe to say that they rarely see one as impressive as Steven Blumenfeld, the CTO of start-up Sparkplay Media. Prior to joining Sparkplay Media he was the CTO at Current TV, the network created by former Vice President Al Gore. And prior to that, he was Vice President of Technology at AOL Time Warner, where he oversaw the creation of numerous technologies and products, including the popular file-sharing program Gnutella. IGN had a chance to ask him some questions about his newest project, the upcoming free-to-play MMO called Earth Eternal.

Outblaze and TurnOut Ventures announced that the free-to-play online game Earth Eternal is now in open beta and accepting all players. The beta will run for the next few weeks to let players explore the revamped massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) while helping to identify any issues and bugs before launch.

2010 was not a remarkable year for the MMO industry. While no major MMOs shut down, certain shutdowns certainly did make history for their remarkable exit. Three MMO shutdowns - plus one other MMO that seems to be out of commission long before launch - made their mark on history last year.
